Moving Backwards

I remember when I was first introduced to Myspace, I must of been 13 and everyone I knew was using it. I would go onto my friends pages and see their custom home pages they spent weeks putting together, complete with music and animations. Flash forward today and the Social Media landscape is almost cookie cutter. Everything is just a white page with image and text... no real customization and just boring. We don't “own” anything on the web anymore, our content lives and dies based on the whim of a centralized platform. Is this just a lost cause now? I'm probably in the minority here, but the internet is turning into cable tv, in short, its all ads. Think about how many ads you saw scrolling in your feed today... Do you remember being hammered with ads when you were reading that stupid Myspace bulletin back in the day? Maybe I just need to accept it, I'm the odd one out...but damn I miss those days. Back to the 4 sites known as the internet.
