Launch Event of a Booklet Released by Forest Minister Mr Sudhir Mungantiwar—Booklet Describing Plant and Bird Species in the Gorewada Project Area

Forest Minister Mr Sudhir Mungantiwar recently launched a booklet that introduces and describes birdlife and trees in the Gorewada project area. During this event, Secretary of the Forest Department Mr Vikas Kharge, Forest Development Corporation, Divisional Manager of Gorewada Project Mr SP Wadaskar, Chief Forest Guard Mr Arvind Kumar Jha and other dignitaries were present.

This booklet is an initiative of the Forest Development Corporation and it is aimed at conveying information regarding rare species of birds and trees in the Gorewada Project area. Rashtrasant Tukadji Maharaj, Nagpur University’s Botany Department had conducted a research-based study on different plant species in the Gorewada Forest Area in 2008. According to this research, this forest is enriched with 294 species of grasses, 79 species of trees and 46 species of bushes. In addition to this, the Seva Dal Women College in Nagpur conducted a study about various bird species in the Gorewada Lake and its surrounding area, which states that around 202 species of birds live here. The booklet launched today covers detailed information about these bird and plant species.
