The future of Social Networking needs a serious evolution in order to challenge the existence of the current monopolizing services. Mastodon and Diaspora are trying, but ultimately clumsy. A Facebook and Twitter killer needs: - High Security and unique user cryptography baked in and easy to use. - Support for 2FA/U2F. - Chat (encrypted, both person-to-person and group). - Long-Form blogging. - Photo storage and sharing. - Micro-blogging. - Link/etc. Sharing. - APIs for integration and SSO. - Open Source. - Federation. - Both server based and P2P options working seamlessly. - Handle Lock: registration of a username anywhere in the federated system locks that combination. - Hidden Stats: No one can see how many followers, number of likes, or shares. The format and construction needs to be simple. Even registration needs to be done in such a way to disperse users to various instances or offer to help them start their own. Ideally it should ultimately be a replacement for all communication, and be able to be sold as a turnkey service to people for a low annual cost if they want it. Encrypted email, messaging, etc. all under your own control, no one can see or tamper with your data. Once we start getting closer to these marks, we will be nearing the future of internet communication. - Mastodon: @xanap@tchncs.de
