E.R. Season One Episode 9

This episode deals heavily with anti-trans violence. I go into more detail below, but if it's a big trigger, skip this one. It's wrenching.

Triggers: Death of a child, Anti-trans violence, suicide, fatal car crash, medical mistreatment

E.R. Generally is pretty trigger-heavy depending on your trauma.

All episodes take place in a fictional county hospital E.R in Chicago. Medical stuff happens in every episode such as surgery, needles, stitches, etc. Prepare to see patients lied to, abused, neglected, and manipulated. Every episode someone will die *usually * a patient. Alcohol and Drug abuse are regular features as is gun violence. Also, be prepared for all the racism and ableism one would find in a real-life E.R.

Plot A: The primary plot of this episode involves a car accident that results in multiple deaths. The driver a teenager deals with and lies to avoid personal and legal issues due to his involvement and possible responsibility for the crash.

Plot B: The secondary plot involves a trans women.

More details:

This episode starts with a psychiatrist documenting how he hates his patients and is depressed.

A trans woman is brought into the E.R, doctors are unaware she is trans*until she is undressed. Dr. Benton then misgenders her.

Two people die in a car accident and another individual cry’s out “ OMG I killed him.”

There’s this ongoing jealousy thing with Dr. Ross and Nurse Hathaway for the whole season where he is just a bitter jerk. It could be triggering for some people. It’s just annoying for me right now.

An animal rights activist tries and fails to save a turkey's life, but accidentally kills it, and most people are mocking or rude to him. The dead turkey is shown.

The trans woman talks about her family refusing to accept her gender.

A mother is told her teen son died and sees his body.

A patient is bulled by a doctor by placing a flower in his butt without his knowledge, as a joke, and everyone laughs. The whole thing is played out in this weird lighthearted way, which makes it worse for me at least.

The Trans women is called a slur by a nurse and mocked for using the ladies room.

There are mulitple scenes involving suicide implied, attempted or completed.

Bigger spolier:

Trigger warning suicide detials below.

The trans women completes suicide at the end of the episode
