Inclusion Obstacles | Fear
Fear breeds contempt of difference.
It’s a killjoy for equitable relationships, preventing opportunities to explore inclusion as a living practice, rooted in personal experience and curiosity as a healing force. Defaulting to fear (and its results of either freezing, ignoring or acting mindlessly) only chases away sensitivity and self-reflection.
While fear is seen as a “normal” human response, it’s also the foundation for hate (thought, felt and enacted), bias (hidden and expressed), injustice and all discriminatory systems of oppression. Social illness, mass dysfunction, and pathology at-scale.
In the context of inclusive leadership and building conscious technology teams able to materialize innovative ideas for true global benefit, attachment to fear-based operations disrupts progress. Perpetual tension and self-doubt settle in. Taking stock of where your support resides and can be sourced to initiate change then feels “impossible”, “unrealistic” or “impractical”.
