of promises and the sea

love is stored under your feet, the sand is no longer scorching hot. it offers delicacy. love is also stored in the way the sun says its farewell by illuminating the sky with various colors. the horizon is set ablaze, but you can never take your eyes off it. love is stored in the way the wind ruffles hair when your hands are busy fiddling against each other, unable to reach those fringes.

“let's come again next time,” his palm is open for your hand to be placed above his. suddenly, you know where you belong. “let's go to places we've never been.”

and that's how he promises you another thing you know he would keep, even until the last of his breath.

jinhyuk is relentless with his words. you wondered once, twice, or perhaps too many times, if his presence is merely to be of service for other people. it's almost disorienting seeing how he obtains his genuine happiness by making sure that someone else is happy.

“i think the little girl across my house would love this doll, don't you think?” he said one time when you both entered a gift shop.

“i don't know, jinhyuk, but i know you would love it,” you answered, didn't even bat an eye at how his choice fell on elsa from frozen.

there are too many promises but never less memories. they're equal. going hand in hand. incorporated. interconnected. action causing reaction. so on and so far.

so, when he asked you one day if he could hold your hand against his calloused palm, you know that it was a question for consent..but also another promise made. you said yes. you always say yes.

here you are again, by the shore but up so high. higher than the world, higher than the figurative cliff you jumped off from, facing another failure. he was there to catch you while he whispered another promise, yet again, “we will go through this. together. you and i.” and you both have never been astray or put asunder ever since.

by this ocean, you both are circling up and down this ferris wheel. you are rotating. you are holding hands as the time slows down. in this moment, you both are free.

“i think i could swim the ocean for you,” he mumbles.

you gasp. he would totally do that. “please don't. stay with me instead.”

he chuckles seeing your concerned expression. “i won't. i will stay with you for the longest time.”
