Why do I want to dedicate myself to the game of P?
I) I love the game. Great! But what exactly do you love about it? (Being more precise/concrete can help me/you when things seem cloudy.)
a. #Craftsmanship –> This is a value that is very important to me. The first expression for me of this was in football. I loved practicing my technique. I looked up to players with refined technique. More hints of this importance came in many forms of admiration for: – Dancers – Cyclists – Boxers => Athletes in general that manifested the extraordinary – Historical figures, leaders – Writers => Not only in the psychical dimension but also the mental D
b. #Excellence (and the striving for it) –> Dedication to the Craft is how Excellence is brought about. (!) It's not only about the illusory end-state of excellence (!) But also about the perpetual state of striving for excellence
By striving for excellence you are in some way already excellent! And only by being excellent^1 in this way can you become excellent^2 in another way! ^1: Excellent in the striving for excellence^2 ^2: Excellent in some particular area of life
c. #Competition & #Challenge (as the 'arena' and 'measure' of excellence) 'Arena': A place that challenges you to be excellent 'Measure': A way of gauging how excellent you are (or aren't :( (yet ;) )
d. #Self-actualization –> Every being has certain potentials it is capable of. To try to actualize those potentials is the (subjective?) meaning of life. Again, it's not only about the end-state. It's also about the prep-state; A state of being with the underlying driver to self-actualize.
(!) This can come in many forms: exploration-discovery ? Who am I? A part of my identity = the aspirations for myself (cfr. ideal version): what fits? ? Who do I want to become? Another part of my identity = the path that leads to those aspirations
e. P is a model of L –> In the narrow sense, P hits a. b. c. ;) I view & approach P as a craft ;) It's something one can pursue excellence in ;) And there's an aspect of competition which challenges you to display excellence and give you a measure of it!
–> In the broad sense, P hits d. ;) Becoming the best possible person I can be is a big driving force for me; Do what's right!

To become an excellent P player, I have to become an excellent person.
