Jazz Bass For Beginners
Start with quarter note walking parts. This sounds mechanical because it is but it will get your ear and fingers on the chart.
For chords over a half measure play 1 5. Play the b5 if it's diminished.
Play 1 2 3 5 on chords over a full measure. Here you have to be careful whether the chord is major, minor third or diminished fifth.
After you get that play 1 7 6 5. Here you have to be careful to get the correct 7th and the flat the 5th if it's diminished.
After you get that mix and match. When you're pretty fluent with these exercises you can look into triplets, encapsulation, and other more advanced techniques.
