Coil How-To's: Cultivating Consistent Content Ideas

Source

Hey...glad to see you here. So far we have taken a look at a couple concepts when it comes to publishing on Coil.com. Topics such as getting set up and proper article composition are both important aspects of growing creative skill sets. One thing that publishers need access to on a regular basis is a constant stream of content ideas to ensure their creative state continues to flow.

Winners focus on winning. Losers focus on winners.

State

First of all, I want you to start, or continue to, think like a winner because you are one. If you are reading this post, then you have an insatiable desire for growth and contribution. You are hungry to learn and then implement that knowledge into your own blog posts. I envy that about you. In fact, you know what? You are a bad ass publishing master!

See? That's what you need. Get into that positive state of mind and use self-talk that is motivating and encouraging. This is your source of energy (and coffee as well, of course). Once you place yourself in that superhero power state, you will be fully energized and perform at peak levels of efficiency like never before.

*Read*

Literally. Read anything and everything you can get your hands on. Not only does this improve your reading skills, but it also floods your mind with endless content ideas for your blogs. Who doesn't want to flood the mind with endless ideas?

[ WAIT! Ken, does this mean that you want me to copy the exact words I read down onto my blog posts? ... Uh... no Suzy, I don't mean that.]

Instead of copying verbatim what you read, use the topics and discussions you read in other books and articles to spawn brand new content that has your own unique spin attached to it.

Reading helps to activate the creative corners of your brain. It is the fuel to your blogging rocket ship. Make a daily habit to read material that is preferably related to the topic(s) that your blog is focused on and that your audience has come to expect.

Diving into a solid fiction book series is also quite effective. Not all reading material has to be centered around a desired topic. Are you a morning person? An afternoon person? An evening person? Read at a time of day when you have the most intellectual clarity for deep brain absorption.

*Compile*

Spend 10-15 minutes at a time compiling ideas into an online note software such as Noteability or Evernote. The reason you want to do this is because you want to harness the ability to add notes from anywhere in the world at any point in time.

Pro tip: Do not compile ideas right before you are planning to compose your blog article. Doing so will create overwhelm and cloud your creative mind with poisonous mushrooms that will haunt your dreams forever.

Organize your newly compiled ideas into categories. For example, if you are a food blogger, then make a new note for each category such as desserts, baked goods, dinners, specialty meals, breakfast dishes, etc. Utilize an organization system that makes sense to you and what you are working to accomplish.

Jot

OK, now you are ready for the last action step of the conversation. Review the compilation of ideas that you created at some point in the past week or so and jot some words down onto your blog article.

Pro tip: It does not matter which words you initially jot down onto your blog page. You can always edit these later. Start writing whatever words come to mind which will get your creative juices flowing like the salmon of Capistrano.

Back in 12th grade, my English teacher taught me the jot technique to help combat the effects of writer's block. If you find yourself with no words moving from your brain to your screen, employ the jot technique and like magic, words will come.

The jot technique alone will help put a multitude of content ideas in your mind to then transfer down onto your blog. But, when combined with the other 3 suggestions, it creates a powerhouse effect that will stand the test of time.

Now that you know what to do (sort of) it is time to put it into practice. Commit to finding time for getting in that peak state, reading faithfully, compiling diligently, and jotting down like crazy. From there, it is simply up to you following a fool proof, rinse and repeat method of attaining continual content ideas for your blog.

Success isn't achieved overnight, but by each mundane day that passes by.
