The Dolphin

In Memory of Stuart Wisken

As the barman polishes the glasses, his eye is drawn to an attractive young lady. She has two books with her: One on Wyndham Lewis. The other is a very small paperback by Thomas Pynchon. He knows immediately that he is in love with this woman and that he will protect her until he dies and beyond. But for now, he continues to polish a beer glass until he finds the courage to introduce himself. He puts a Bill Withers tune on the Jukebox and the young lady looks up and smiles at him. He feels warm.
