Day 2 of the weird stuff I do on my computer for questionable reasons, today we're going to look at Terminal programs. I spend a great deal of time in the terminal. Once upon a time, that was a requirement to be a Linux user, but that's not the case anymore. So, why do I have three terminal applications in my launcher?
Hi, my name is Mike, and I'm a taboholic. I open tabs. Lots of tabs. And then I leave them open for a really long time. My browser of choice makes it easier for me to handle large numbers of tabs, and it's one of my favorite things about it. Recently Google Chrome introduced a new feature to do the same, and I think I like it.
Three weeks ago I accepted a challenge from a Kev to write a blog post a day for one hundred days. We're now three weeks into the challenge and so I thought that today might be a good day for a quick summary.
It's interesting when you're an adult being able to look back on things from your childhood and see how those things really had an impact on you and where you are now. For me, one of those was a programming language called Logo.
I've made no secret that I'm a huge fan of #Mycroft. I love personal assistants, but I also love my privacy. If I'm going to have both, I can't use most of the voice assitants that are on the market today. But Mycroft doesn't cover all the bases for me. Here's one of my biggest, if least relevant to the product, complaints.
When Kev finally convinced me to start blogging again (something he's been working on for a while, god knows why), I elected to move from Wordpress to write.as. I need to troubleshoot an issue.
I find myself taking screenshots often. I think it's something individuals who work in computers will do much more often than those that don't, so it naturally there are a wide variety of tools out there to accomplish this task. My favorite is scrot.
Today was Mother’s Day here in the United States, and in many other countries world wide. I’d like to say that I have something profound to say to celebrate the day, but I don’t. I spent the day with my wife and children, and called my Mom because I can’t go see her because her care facility is in lock down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
I hope everybody had a good day. Take care, be healthy.
Yesterday I gave my own thoughts on the recent acquisition of Keybase by Zoom. As I said yesterday, and will probably keep saying until Zoom discontinues Keybase, I’m not going to delete my Keybase account and will continue to see what Zoom does with it. That doesn’t mean I’m not eyeing other products to see if one of them might be a worthy successor to Keybase. Is keys.pub the one?
I’m guessing that most people who care about #privacy have heard about the recent aquisition of Keybase by Zoom. It’s hard to escape since it’s beenalloverthenews. Since I’m a user of Keybase, I thought that I’d offer up my thoughts on the matter.
