Despite the sterile scene in domestic politics in present-day Singapore, in 1911 there existed people known as revolutionaries, seeking to overthrow the Qing/Ching dynasty in China.
The famous Sun Yat-sen, widely regarded as “the father of modern China”, himself visited Singapore a number of times, and established revolutionary activities – including fund-raising – on this tiny island.
Apparently Dr. Sun said: “Overseas Chinese people are the mothers of the revolution.” Or, in the original Chinese language: “华侨为革命之母。”
