today I read about Costa Rica
Today I read about something known as exceptionalism of citizens of Costa Rica.
They believe they are different and special, compared to other people in Central America.
No doubt, this attitude is encouraged by the fact that a winner of the Nobel Prize has emerged from them.
But, it is likely the ancient Maya people believed in their own exceptionalism too. Their civilisation ranged from 2000 B.C. to 1500 A.D.
They built pyramids and developed their own writing systems.
But, pitifully, the descendants of the Maya people are now one of the poorest segments of society, in Meso America.
Clearly, riches do not last forever.
