I would like to accuse some people of mindless slavery to a neoliberal ideology. Their preferred slogan to unleash on poor people is: “if you would just work hard enough, you can lift yourself out of poverty”.

Implying that if I am poor, it is my own fault for failing to work “hard enough”.

But that is a convenient distraction from pressuring the state to provide more assistance to the poor. It is just transferring responsibility away from the state.

But, because I am not yet super familiar with neoliberalism, I have decided to keep quiet, instead of accusing others of mindless slavery to neoliberal ideology.

What is neoliberalism, anyway? Can it be eaten?
