2019 has been an absolutely amazing year! I love going back and seeing everyone's recaps, Dani's & Patricia's p. 1 & p. 2 are specifically very touching. I had an interesting year to say the least but I am very grateful for all of the new people I met, the experiences I got to have and I could not be more proud to be a part of the Coil community.

I had the incredible opportunity to start using Coil on its first day in beta. I got to sing at the XRP Community Choice Awards hosted by the wonderful @sincerelygeorge. I got to do an interview with Hodor and got the chance to do my first live interview on @xrpzoo and I honestly can't even remember all of the other wonderful things that happened. It was incredible and I couldn't be more grateful!

To end this year on a positive note I thought it would be fun to reflect on a few posts that were pivotal for me and a few of my favorite posts from other creators this year!

To start, here are a few of my favorite posts from other amazing creators in the community!

Patrícia is one of my favorite creators in this community. She has been such an encouragement to me and she brings such a special light to everywhere she hangs out! This article specifically was incredibly inspiring and encouraging to me.

Inner strength, The Volcano within!

Dani has been an absolute delight to get to know. She and I worked on the XRP Community Choice Awards and she was so incredibly kind and creative. Although I know Dani was hesitant about starting her Coil blog, I am so glad that she did! Recently she wrote an amazing article about her health journey, it's a great read!

My Secrets to Health – Part 1

Orlando is an incredible writer. He is intelligent, encouraging and incredibly kind. He started a fantastic series, probably my favorite one on Coil: “Building a Culture of Kindness”. The series is huge, but I will link the first article below. Please go read this series, it's honestly amazing and we all need to be a bit more kind.

Building A Culture of Kindness

I have also written a few articles that I am so proud of and that have played a huge part in the role that I currently play on Coil and in the community.

When I wrote this article and posted this video I had NO idea that it would instantly throw me into a role that I had no idea how to fill. Thanks to all of you, I am sharing music on a regular basis, I am able to release my own music and I am able to help others get their careers started on Coil and Cinnamon!

This article has been my most upvoted and it has helped so many people! Like I said, it makes me so happy that I am able to help people understand their worth and build brands that they are proud of. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to pursue their passions and if I can help make that happen in a sustainable way, where they actually make money, I'm here for it!

I was SO excited when Cinnamon first launched. Since then I have done several updated articles about Cinnamon and about all of the changes they've made, but this one is special to me. This articles signifies the beginning of something new and something amazing. For me it felt like this was actually becoming a movement that was powerful, it wasn't just Coil anymore. I am so excited to see which other companies and platforms pop up in this next year to help shape the IoV!

This was crazy for me. Coil actually kinda got me out of my rut. I hadn't released music in two years and I honestly had given up on myself. When I put “Jolene” out there and it did amazing and people were DMing me asking me for more of my own music, I was stunned. Dustin and I quickly put this release together and although I laugh about how not good this song is now, I love it for the fact that it was the messy action I needed to take to get where I am now!

This was a very special article for me. Although Hodor has since retired from his role and I miss him dearly, I am thankful for the huge part that he played in promoting the Coil platform, educating people on IoV, digital assets and blockchain technology. I absolutely loved getting to know Hodor and doing this interview with him marked a new chapter in my life. I suddenly felt like I had the ability to do everything I loved. I could be a musician and a songwriter, but I could also take part in developing technology, I could be a video content creator, I could be a writer, I could be a podcaster- I could do it all and it was going to be great.

I hope y'all enjoyed walking through my year in posts and I encourage you to keep creating and keep dreaming, 2020 is going to be amazing!

xoxo – Ry

Y'ALL! Tomorrow is January 1st!!! 🎉

I hope you have had the most amazing year and that you have felt progress and growth whether it was in your personal life or your business life!

This year has been a whirlwind for me, you can read more about that in my “Are You Ready For 2020?” post. But I am SO excited for the craziness that 2020 is about to hold. I am so pumped because not only do I have plans to release a ton of incredible songs; I have plans to start performing, there will be tons of collaborations and I am officially launching (drum roll please)....

Merge: The Podcast

January 1st, 2020 I will be launching the first episode of the (as far as I'm aware) first podcast that is available exclusively utilizing web-monetization. I have created Merge to allow a space to “merge” the creative industry and the Internet of Value. As you will find out in the first episode, a lot of creative people don't feel like they are capable of crossing over into technology without looking or feeling uneducated. In my personal opinion, we need to stomp out the boxes that we have put ourselves into and break down the walls of “supposed to's” and “this is what I studied so I have to stick with this”. It's 2020, the time to get involved and be a part of the future is NOW. The concept behind merge, as I mentioned, is merging the space between the creative industry and the Internet of Value. With so many new programs and companies developing to support the IoV and so many new creators stepping up, I wanted to show how when we come together we are so much more powerful. Developers were made for creators and creators were made for developers; we go hand in hand.

I've often talked to creators and people in general and they simply don't understand what's wrong with the current system and why it needs changing. The internet of information is all they have ever known and with the media doing a great job of hiding what's really going on behind the scenes, it's up to us. I want to develop a space where truths can be told, new technology can be promoted, new creators can come forward and share what they've got going on and we can be educated from both sides of the spectrum.

In the Merge space I will be inviting creators, developers and innovators to share their stories, their initiatives, their projects and their life's work. I will be opening up a dialog that will allow creators, both old and new to the community, to see how valuable they are. I will be providing education from the creative side and bringing in incredible minds to educate on the new technology that is developing and where it's all going. I'm a firm believer that education and starting conversation is the number one way to get a movement off the ground. The more someone understands, the more likely they are to become passionate about it and want a piece of the action!

If you or someone you know in the community would like to be a part of merging the gap and you want to help others (specifically creatives) understand why being a part of the IoV is so important, let's connect! (This goes for creators, innovators and developers!) Feel free to email me: riley@rileyq.com or message me on Twitter or Instagram.

I cannot wait to see what 2020 is going to do for all of us, it's going to be an incredible year!

Check back tomorrow, January 1st, for the first episode of Merge and have a very happy new year!

xoxo – Ry

Hey friends! I hope you're having a great holiday week and that you're enjoying time with family and friends. This week has been wonderful reminiscing with old friends and talking about high school. With that in mind I wanted to share a song I wrote a few months back about my experience with growing up and growing out of my friends lives. It's so interesting the dynamics that change after you leave high school and college and how much everyone else changes. All of these stories in this song are real, but they're a compilation of several friendships and how I view them now. I hope you like it!

“Wow” by ©Riley Q

Verse 1:

Wow, I see you’re getting married

On the fourth of January

Wow, I remember how we planned it

There’d be jazz and it’d be splendid

Wow, oh wow

Pre-Chorus:

I forgot about the things we said

When were seventeen and sad

I forgot about the things we’d do

But I never forgot you

Chorus:

How did we get so far

From when we were young

Oh how did we break apart

We were practically one

From late nights and petty fights

To laughing and tears

I never thought we’d end up here

(How did we end up here?)

Verse 2:

Wow those were just the old days

When we’d stay awake til sun rays hit the clouds

Wow I knew he’d be the death of us

But I never thought we’d fall apart so loud

Oh wow

Pre-Chorus

Chorus

Bridge:

I wish you the best, a lifetime of happiness

I wish you the world, and that blonde haired little baby girl

That I knew you always wanted

I hope he’s all you wanted

Chorus

Y'ALL! We have 2 ½ days left of this month/year/DECADE. (in America) That's insane!

So, are you ready?

I'm not a New Years Resolution girl, because honestly, the only thing that changes between December 31st and January 1st is the calendar. Nothing else.

Nothing about your life is going to change between 2019 and 2020 unless you want it to. Simply saying that you're going to do x, y or z to better yourself in 2020, doesn't mean that is going to happen. You have to change your mindset, your habits and put steps into place to keep yourself from falling back into old habits.

I don't mean to be a debbie downer, but, if you are going to set resolutions are you even ready for your resolutions? Are you ready to set new goals? Did you even accomplish your goals from this last year?

I remember last year at the beginning of 2019 my resolution was to lose weight. Setting that resolution was something I did because I was feeling insecure about how I looked and that was it. I didn't have a plan or a positive attitude and guess what, I didn't lose the weight. In early December I decided that if I wanted to make a change this year I had to start now with not only my mindset, but actually putting a plan in place. Rather than waiting for January 1st to roll around, I decided to start right then. It allowed me to start to gain some will power, it allowed me to get in a good head space about WHY I was setting a specific goal, and it allowed me to actually put a plan in place. Rather than simply stating that I was going to do something, I gave myself a plan of how I was going to do it and when I wanted to accomplish my goal by.

With all of that being said, I'm not against setting resolutions, but I want you to be ready to actually pursue your goals wholeheartedly.

Mind. Body. Soul.

If you know that there are some things you want to accomplish in the next year, start thinking about the How/Why/Intentions behind them now.

*»* What would it mean to you and for you if you accomplished that goal?

*»* Why is this goal important?

*»* Why are you wanting to prioritize it?

*»* Where does this goal fall on your priority list?

*»* How is this going to change your life?

*»* How often do you need to allocate time to this goal?

*»* How much of your money/resources do you need to allocate towards this goal?

*»* What will you be sacrificing to make this goal worth it?

*»* Is that a possibility at this time?

*»* If not, what could you do to chip away at that sacrifice to make it happen?

When Dustin and I sat down to discuss our 2020 goals, we separated them by importance, sacrifice, time, probability and size. Using those filters we were able to identify which goals we could realistically accomplish and which goals were going to be the most important to accomplish for our overall health and happiness.

That's the thing about stepping into a new year, it's new. You have a new opportunity, if you really need to look at it that way, to do something new. You have the opportunity to change how you view yourself and how you view your life. But let me let you in on a little secret, you have the opportunity to change every single minute of every single day. There is absolutely no reason that you have to wait until January 1st to change. There is not a giant reset button that is clicked at 11:59 on December 31st.

So what do you need to do to get in the right head space?

1. You need to dream a little. You need to look outside of the box that you're in and ask yourself where you really want to be. Are you on the path to success (however you define that)? Or do you need to reroute and choose a new path that will make you happier?

2. You need to identify where you're at mentally. Do you believe that you can have more? Do you see the bigger picture? Do you walk into a room and see potential? If you're answering no to any of these questions you need to work on your mindset. Because guess what? You are capable of having more. You should be able to know that there is a bigger picture and sometimes messy action now has the potential to get amazing results.

Do you want to blog more on Coil? Figure out your why, identify your obstacles, decide on a plan to execute the goal and start now.

Do you want to lose weight? Figure out your why, identify your obstacles, decide on a plan and start now.

Do you want to finally start performing?

Do you want to finally publish that book?

Do yo want to finally code that game?

Figure out your why.

Identify your obstacles.

Decide on a plan.

Start now.

This isn't hard people, it just takes being intentional and truly understanding why you want to do what you're setting out to do. Then it takes being intentional about the how.

I challenge you to make these last few days of 2019 and 2020 memorable and intentional.

The reality is, crap is going to get bad at some point this year. But when you are intentional about where you want to go and the actions behind that, you will always have something to fall back on.

So let me ask you again, are you ready for 2020?

xoxo – Ry

As Christmas has now come to pass and we are moving on to the last week of December, I wanted to share a few “closing” thoughts. With this week often comes a lot of time for self reflection and looking back on the past year. Yesterday I went to Downtown Detroit and stood in the very spot that Dustin proposed to me a year ago. Standing there I felt a rush of nostalgia pass over me and it hit me just how much has changed this year.

The beginning of 2019 was rocky. Although Dustin and I were engaged, we still had a lot to push through to make it down the aisle only three months later. We planned a wedding, fixed up a house, fought through my crazy roommate situation in Nashville all while I tried to run a social media business.

I remember two days before our wedding I was crying in a coffee shop after getting off a client call. I was so frustrated and overwhelmed because after a year of owning my own business (like start-from-scratch management and design business), I still felt so defeated. I wasn't making enough money, I was working insane hours for insane clients and I was literally losing my mind. I felt like no matter how hard I worked or how much I worked, I was just spinning my wheels and I wasn't going anywhere.

Flash forward a month or so later, Dustin and I were married and trying to figure out how summer work months were going to look like for us. Dustin and I both ran our own businesses, but they just weren't bringing in enough money to truly make them worth it. Although I didn't want to stop my business, I knew I needed to do something else in addition to make ends meet. Honestly, the whole point behind my business was never to make it my long term career, it was supposed to be temporary until I figured out what I really wanted to do.

Deep in my heart I knew I wanted to be a musician. I wanted to be an artist. I wanted to make music that people loved and connected with. But last year at this time, I had given up. I felt like I wasn't capable of being an artist and for some crazy reason I let the thought that I would never be good enough take over my entire life. I literally would run from any and all opportunity to sing, write, anything. I still haven't established exactly why that happened, in my gut I think it's because I was afraid to fail, but more so was also afraid to look like I failed, even temporarily. Rather than take risks, I shut my dreams out completely and tried to settle with the fact that I would never be able to do what I loved. Looking back, it sounds ridiculous but mentally I couldn't get out of that state.

Back to late April, about a month after we got married, Dustin and I really started talking about our future and what we needed to do to make our dreams work and what those even were. Throughout those conversations I came to realize that I desperately wanted to do music again. I didn't want to hold back this time and I wasn't living my life's purpose if I wasn't singing and writing and recording. A week later Dustin came to me with a brand new website that would change the world: Coil.

Although I wasn't 100% sure about the whole thing at first, I figured that I'd give it a shot. It couldn't hurt to be the first artist on the platform, right?

Only a few weeks later I truly found my groove on Coil and a few weeks after that I received my first boost. I was truly awestruck at the fact that in a matter of a few months I went from doing absolutely nothing to living out my dreams.

Coil truly changed my life.

They have *funded* my music this year through the boost program.

Their *team* has supported me wholeheartedly and has been super encouraging.

The *community* has welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like I've found my home. (Shoutout to @SincerelyGeorge, @DaniTorres and @PatriciaC especially for loving on me these past few months!)

The *technology* has changed how I see the industry and how I see money and that has already impacted my career for the better.

Coil has allowed me opportunities that have far surpassed what I dreamed I'd be doing in my first official year (back) as an artist. I've been doing interviews, offered shows, played online shows, and I finally have a platform to share my music on that I trust.

If you've been considering using Coil but haven't taken the plunge, do it. It's so freaking worth it. Coil is amazing and they are innovative and they are making waves and you will 1000% regret not being a part of it if you don't join.

Coil, thank you so much for your incredible dedication to creators and your dedication to delivering incredible content. Your innovation and creativity has not only changed my life but the lives of many others in this community. Your priority to value creators in a way that ensures that we get paid means the world to me and you have a lifelong customer and creator here. I am so grateful for this platform and the community you've built. Thank you for changing my perspective about music and money and in result, changing my life. The camaraderie, creativity and innovation that you model has set an incredible example for the community and we cannot thank you enough. I am proud to be one of the first users and I am so excited to support you for as long as your doors are open.

How has Coil changed your life?
