Rockies Pitch Update: Importing Archives from Substack

First, thank you for reading Rockies Pitch!

I wanted to update you on my plans for this blog/newsletter, but first some history is in order.

Rockies Pitch started in September of 2020 as, among other things, a COVID project. Since then, it’s published two issues each week, bringing Rockies-related materials to other Rockies fans.

Since late October, I’ve been trying where to house Rockies Pitch. Everything that happened to Twitter has forced me to rethink where my writing lives. Even before the Twitter meltdown began, I’d started to see changes at Substack that indicated a shift to cultivating well known writers over fostering a writing community. In addition, it became clear to me that everything that happened at Twitter (i.e., a wealthy man buying something and absolutely not caring about the ways in which his actions affected others) could happen to Substack. (Indeed, that’s probably been the plan since the beginning.)

While Rockies Pitch isn’t big, and it’s not especially important on the sports media landscape, it’s important to me, and housing it in a place where I retained control over the content became a pressing issue. I explored some other newsletter providers, but they weren’t what I was looking for. Now, I’m trying Write.As. So far, so good.

I’m still learning this platform — expect to see some design changes soon — but I’ve not found an easy way to import archives of Rockies Pitch from Substack to Write.As.

I’ve decided not everything needs to be archived, but there’s some material I wish to preserve. You can expect to see those pieces published here with a clear indication that it’s part of the Rockies Pitch archive and a date of publication.

When I get settled, I’ll probably delete my Substack and allow those who wish to follow my work to subscribe here. But I’m not there yet.

In the meantime, I just wanted to update you on my plan (such as it is) and thank you for reading.

Renee
