Echo-chambered, or, shouting until silent
Another term for this could simply be, cynicism. If you fall on whatever part of the political spectrum, or care about any major issue, or, if you simply want your voice to be heard on a subject that matters to YOU, and want to raise awareness for said issue, by “raising your voice” online (or sharing your view on socials), is ironically the LAST way to bring about results to said subject matter. The True Democratic Medium™ that the Internet was supposed to be (or, as some/most people were lead to believe) turned out to be nothing more than a red herring. The Internet is a distraction-filled suppression mechanism that, like the roll of the dice with dopamine upon refresh, it's a one-in-a-million roll of the dice whether a subject matter, or candidate, or any correspondence at all will pick up adequate steam to bring about change for any given issue.
Some could say this post in-and-of-itself is cynicism, but it is merely reality. Most people (and their concerns as an adult in the modern world) will not go viral. Not that virality would bring about change – we'd live in a much different world by now if that were the case. Instead, virality is just shouting until silent – LOTS of attention, LOTS of dopamine, LOTS of self-righteousness, but in the end, there are zero(0) results.
Instead of putting the issues you care most about on blast to the entire universe on Twitter, maybe next time – drum up some awareness in your own community, with your friends, your immediate family, your co-workers, face-to-face, in-person.
Just my two cents :)
