viewNot so shaggy, not too shabby. (100DaysToOffload – day4)
28 April 2020 ~ 15:00
Looking at myself in the mirror lately I've become rather annoyed by the wildness of my unkept beard and the shagginess of my hair. So I've done something about that.
It has taken three days to bring my beard back under control using just the grooming tools I've got here at home: clippers and razors. But now it's finally in good shape again: moderately close-cropped and trimmed.
Cutting my hair has taken much less time than taming the beard. For most of my adult life, especially for the last three decades or so, I've cut my own hair. Since I keep it very closely cropped in a military cut, that's pretty easy. All I need to do is run the clippers over my head until all is cut that can be cut and there it is. And that's just what I've done earlier this afternoon .
Yes, yes, a barber can give me a more “professional” military cut. And for the last couple of years I've gone to barber shops to have that taken care of. So I've gotten out of the habit of doing it myself. During this “pandemic lockdown” the barber shops are all closed and, well ... the man I see in the mirror each morning was starting to look shaggy and shabby. But, no longer!
As an older guy with underlying health issues I intend to hold myself in self-quarantine even after the economy comes back to life, until this current pestilence is purged from the land or until a vaccine becomes available. But at least I'm looking better now, and feeling better, and I intend to stay this way.
And the adventure continues.

viewYesterday's walk, etc. (100DaysToOffload – day3)
27 April 2020 ~ Noon
I was pleasantly surprised and more than a little nervous when Sylvia suggested we take a walk through the neighborhood yesterday evening. We have both been concerned about weight gain during this lockdown and Lord knows we could use some healthy exercise. So we donned our mandated masks and set out walking.
The plan originally was simply to walk around the block. (We have big blocks in our neighborhood.) After the first 50 feet or so she suggested, “This is nice. You know, if we were to walk two blocks over then double back, that would be even better.”
At the far end of the second block she had a good stride going and my hips were starting to ache. We turned right at that corner and, by the time we reached the next corner and turned again to head in the direction of our house, she was still strolling happily while my leg pain was increasing.
We finally got back home and she happily remarked at how much she was sweating. I mostly groaned. All I wanted to do was change clothes and sit still. Sit. Very. Still.
After relaxing for awhile, we decided that we'd had a good experience and we should make our evening walk a daily thing. So as I move through today's regular chores I know I have another walk to look forward to this evening.
And the adventure continues.

viewOne busy Sunday! (100DaysToOffload – day 2)
26 April 2020 ~ 14:30
For the past few weeks I knew that one important chore was waiting to be done today: the activation of new credit cards, one for me and another “riding” on my account for the wife. The account housing these cards has been moved from the original bank to a much more full-serviced Federal Credit Union. The old account was active through yesterday, and the new cards, which were mailed to me a few weeks ago, were to be activated today. Activating those cards and setting up the online access to that new Credit Union account swallowed up most of this Sunday morning. (I really don't deal well with telephones and phone menu systems, but we do what we have to do. Ya' know?)
Through the early afternoon I've checked out recent posts put up by vloggers in the Philippines I follow. One of those posts focused on one guy's experience with his finances, particularly moving money from his American bank to the Philippines, and dealing with Philippines banks. Hearing about his experiences helped me realize that my plans re: how to manage my finances before, during, and after my move are good. Of course, given the current world economic and political situation, my move will have to be rescheduled for some yet to be determined time in the future. But I'm monitoring things as closely as I can, and I intend to adjust my plans accordingly.
The adventure continues.

viewOh, why not? (100DaysToOffload – day 1)
25 April 2020 ~ 07:45
I've always been a sucker for blogging projects like this, so I'm jumping into the #100DaysToOffload thing that Kev has just started.
This Saturday morning starts quietly in my little corner of South Texas, as most mornings do during this pandemic semi-lockdown. With our morning cups of coffee at hand, I'm surfing the Internet here in my home/office while Sylvia is out on the front porch, chatting away with her family in the Philippines via FB Messenger.
We may venture out later today so I can do some shopping at a big market in the neighborhood, or we may not. Sylvia did her shopping yesterday, but there are still a few things I want to pick up. Those items I have on my list aren't “must haves” so I may wait a few days to hit the store when it's likely to be less crowded.
The highlight of my day will probably be watching Svengoolie this evening as I do every Saturday. Or I may head out with my camera sometime during the day. There's really no sense of urgency about anything, and that's just the way I like it.
The adventure continues. And it does so calmly and peacefully.
