Dear Coilers, a thing crossed my mind while reading a post about a blue moon yesterday. I’ve enjoyed the post but have noticed something which I thought I should correct.

It was about root of the word lunatic which comes from Latin lunaticus (of the moon) from the word Luna, -ae, f. meaning Moon.

Anyway, I was thinking about my knowledge of Latin and have, unfortunately, noticed I cannot put a grammatically correct sentence anymore.

Long years passed since I haven’t been using Latin, a beautiful, thou dead, language in which I was very good at the time.

Then an old wisdom crossed my mind... (learnt by heart so not needed to think about the grammar 😃)

Quot linguas calles, tot homines vales. – Thomas Jefferson

(Meaning: You are worth as many people as the languages that you can speak.)

Some say that the quote is attributed to the Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, but let’s leave it this to POTUS3 as I couldnt find any witness to confirm those were Charles’ words...

so I’ve tried to count how of how many people my worth is... not as many as I’d like to...

I speak Croatian 🇭🇷, and with the standard Croatian I can speak Some Dalmatian and Zagorje region accents (one with strong Italian and the other with Austrian/German influence. Some of Croatian accents I cannot understand at all. Almost not a single word!)

Then I can speak Bosnian 🇧🇦 and Serbian 🇷🇸. Bosnian is a new made language which is basically Croatian with enormous number of Turkish 🇹🇷 words and phrases due to long Turkish influence in the region. Serbian is very close to Croatian but is more of savages, native people’s language without any poetic beauty and deprived from many Old Slavic words which Croatian language kept and still cherishes. Turkish influence is relatively strong in Serbian too. I read cyrillic too..

Slovenian 🇸🇮 language, Melania Trump’s mother language, I can understand well but cannot speak it that well. I rarely go there so cannot practice much. I can translate from Slovenian but cannot translate to Slovenian well.

I understand Macedonian 🇲🇰 and Bulgarian 🇧🇬 quite well but cannot speak them. I’d need at least two months of living there to be able to speak them fluently enough not to be ashamed of my nescience.

Northern Slavic languages are an Achilles heel of mine. I understand every other word or less, enough to think I know some but not enough to feel comfortable in conversation. With Czech 🇨🇿 and Slovak 🇸🇰 being much closer to me than Polish 🇵🇱 or Russian 🇷🇺 or... But I like to read Dostoyevsky in Russian. It is hard for me but... Dostoyevsky simply knocks me down. I cannot decide who is the greatest, him or Charles Dickens.

Being of a Slavic tribe is great for having a base for many languages thou. Many similarities within that group of languages makes it easier to learn other Slavic languages if you know one or more.

English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 I can speak pretty well. Constant communication with people from around the world and writing blogs on Coil platform help a lot. I differ “their” from “they’re” too.

German 🇩🇪... I could speak it as well as I speak English but the lack of practice has degraded my ability to the level of a Polish plumber who migrated to Germany to earn some money and return back after a few years. Broader vocabulary would do the thing too. I could live in german speaking countries and survive. No problem with that. Just a vocabulary...

And that’s it. No other I know. From my time in China 🇨🇳 in 2007/2008 I’ve learnt how to say hi, 1, 5, yes and beer. And that Bei Jing Huan Ying Ni

I my time in Denmark 🇩🇰 I was able to understand pretty much but wasn’t able to pronounce their words correctly without people laughing...

What I would like to be able is to speak Italian 🇮🇹 and Spanish 🇪🇸 fluently, but lazy as I am, it’ll probably be my wish till the moment they burn me in a crematorium and disperse my ashes at some garbage dump to get rid of me and bad memories...

Aha, I was able to speak Latin too... what’s left are medical terms and few of quotes we were forced to learn during Latin classes.

Soooo... I am worth of how many people?!

1 (one)! English is the only language which counts to be honest.

Thank you for reading,

Srdan

Dear Coilers, we are back to the Czech Republic, an amazing country with rich brewing history. Today I’ll present you one of its breweries and taste one of its expressions in Coil’s taproom.

BERNARD FAMILY BREWERY

On 26 October 1991, Stanislav Bernard, Josef Vávra and Rudolf Šmejkal bought the bankrupt Humpolec brewery at an auction under the “small privatisation” scheme.

The dream of building a brewery that would not only brew honest Czech beer, but also have its own opinion began to come true. During the first ten years that followed the privatisation (the brewery was sold at five times its book value and was obsolete technologically), the brewery was literally fighting for its life.

Thanks to the quality of the beer, focus on customer service and gradual development of the brand, they’ve made their dream a reality. Bernard became a well known and popular brand nationwide.

To distinguish their beer from the beers on the Czech market, they have chosen to make honest traditional unpasteurized beer, brewed with craftsmen skill from the best ingredients. Thanks to its traditional procedures, Bernard beer stands out for its harmony of fullness and bitterness.

PILSNER

As you could already learn in Brew!, Czech Republic, once known as Bohemia, has a long history of brewing and their beers are world famous. So famous that some have stolen the name from them (hint Budvar...)

Part of rich Czech beer history is Pilsner, named after the city of Plzeň (Pilsner in German), a beer developed as an answer to consumers demand for bottom fermented beers. Style which instantly became ultra popular among Czechs and spread around the world keeping it’s status till the present days. You will learn about the history of it in a video to come.

CZECH PILSNER

(Bohemian Pilsner, Czech Lager, Bohemian Lager, Czech Pilsner Lager)

The original, Bohemian one, was created by Josef Groll, a Bavarian master brewer, in mid 19th century. He combined his knowledge in brewing with Bavarian bottom fermenting yeasts, Saaz hops and light malts and made a history.

Those ingerdients gave clean, crisp, soft malty and nicely bitter beer which spread through Europe in notime and later through America.

LEŽAK

In the Czech Republic, it is still customary to label the strength of beer by the so-called degree scale (in Czech: Stupňovitost). It is expressed as a weight percentage of sucrose and is used to indicate the percentage by weight of extract (sucrose) in a solution.

According to Czech law, there are several categories of beer, regardless of colour or style. One of them is Ležak, a lager beer, brewed between 11° and 12.99° strenght.

BERNARD SVATEČNI LEŽAK

The Celebration (Svatečni) lager with a fine yeast culture is an unpasteurized beer with distinctive flavor, fine yeast taste and aroma. The beer is secondary fermented in bottle so there can be a yeasty sediment on the bottom of the bottle, and the beer can be slightly cloudy during the consumation.

🥈Silver medal – 2020, France – Lyon, Concours International De Lyon

🥇Gold medal – 2019, Belgium – Mons, Brussels Beer Challenge

🥇Gold medal – 2018, Germany – Frankfurt, Frankfurt International Trophy

STYLE: CZECH PILSNER LAGER

ALC VOL: 5,0%

BITTERNESS: n/a IBU

Opens with “PoP” sound of built in cap to impress from the first moment.

It pours dark golden in colour, not completely clear (due to second fermentation in bottle and residual yeast), with a small white head which stays long and leaves a ring around the glass.

The nose is relatively light but impressive, malty and yeasty with a nice green, herbal hoppy aroma.

The first sip is... BITTER! Screams quality! Hoppy bitterness all over, amazing, full, pure and crystal clear. Not that aggressive, overly bitter brew but the aristocratic one. For those who know things. Some malty sweetness opens after the bitterness settles down a bit. Beautiful freshly baked rustic white bread. Pure heaven!

Fresh in the exhale, almost no alcohol, just present in the back hovering in the cage of bitterness covering the palate and tongue.

Aftertaste is long for the style. Very long. Bitterness settles, then reappears again after the bread and yeast fade.

Body is surprisingly rich. Not just medium one. Fresh peppery carbonation adds to freshness and helps to round the body to perfection. Even some creaminess is felt like in those heavy rich brews...

...that hoppy bitterness is still here, lingering... forever.

This beer is simply amazing. Thou I love this style, this is objectively brewed to perfection. A masterpiece of Czech brewing.

My mark: *9,5/10* (This beer style is far from the the style which you could expect to amaze you. But this beer does just that.)

Dear Coilers, some of you may know how much I hate Hajduk Split football club, but what I will always admit is that this awful club is adored by the whole Dalmatia and has great supporters. City of Split lives for it.

Torcida, supporters group of Hajduk Split, is celebrating its 70th birthday today. The celebration started on the stroke of midnight by lighting up the city of Split with flares and fireworks.

https://cinnamon.video/watch?v=440535993519441268

There were unbelievable scenes in Split as the city was a sea of red as flares and fireworks, let off all over the city to celebrate Torcida’s birthday, illuminated the night sky.

Renowned for knowing how to celebrate and put on a spectacular show, Torcida’s celebration has even out done the one when the club celebrated its 100th birthday back in 2011.

Torcida was founded on 28 October 1950 by a group of students who were studying in Zagreb. The group decided, before a match against Red Star Belgrade, that they wanted to stage an unprecedented spectacle in order to help their club, and took the name Torcida from the Brazilian Portuguese word for “supporters”, after fans at the 1950 World Cup at the time in Brazil had impressed them so much.

Torcida, which was started by just over 100 students, and has grown to thousands today, have built a fierce reputation around the world for gathering in the north stand behind the goal at Poljud stadium and creating a special atmosphere via their imaginative choreography, chants, and pyrotechnics.

Torcida has a number of branches in other countries, mostly among Croatian communities, but not exclusively. Torcida is the oldest firm in Europe.

Dear Coilers® and fellow Cinners®, I’ve woke up with some great news I’ve seen on my Twitter wall. Cinnamon is growing and establishing itself as a serious startup with the future as bright as Sun.

What makes me happy is that I was following the growth of the platform since its very beginning. Just like quite a few of you have too.

What started as a startup project built on Web Monetization and Micropayments enabled by Coil, in less than a year turned to Forbes’ news and a hit of the day on Product Hunt.

Product Hunt surfaces the best new products, every day. It's a place for product-loving enthusiasts to share and geek out about the latest mobile apps, websites, hardware projects, and tech creations.

The team behind is just great. I’ve never experienced any platform I’ve ever used, directly contacting its creators to hear and listen about their thoughts about it, to make it better and more user friendly. Cinnamon did that. They’ve contacted me twice and those video chats were, at least to me, great experience and insight in how the real, serious startups work, apart from those scammy, take the money and run ones.

Cinnamon is, from this day, much more than just a side platform which we, Coilers®, used to post our, often not that great, videos. This is the real business now.

I wonder how many of us from the “core creators” will be “stars” there. If I had to put money on anyone it would be Riley Q.

Where I see myself? There 🤣!

I have 101 followers on Cinnamon, unbelievably small number, I know. But till now it was a pretty big base of followers. I hope that users will be numbered in hundereds of thousands soon and all of us should work on trying to catch as many of them as possible (as many as we deserve to be more precise).

What I ask from Cinnamon team is to continue to listen to us and improve the platform to the level which incoming professional vloggers would find good enough for themselves.

In the end, I’m happy I’ve Cinned® for the first time a year ago. I hope the second year will be even better. Growing as a creator together with the platform itself is a real pleasure.

Let’s see what will future bring.

Dear Coilers, I’m writing this post as an economist, a realist and bankster’s brother, not as an XRP (and other crypto) holder. Realist part is the most important here. No matter what we believe in or what we would like to succeed, we have to think out of the box and contemplate different solutions and paths which financial institutions may take.

The news about banks starting production of the new “in 10 seconds” money transfer broke out two days ago in Croatia, EU.

National Clearing System (NKS) was announced by the Croatian National Bank (HNB) in 2015 but nothing much was happening around the platform until the beginning of 2020 when HNB had certified Croatian Financial Agency (FINA) to settle the Nacionalni Klirinški Sustav (National Clearing System NKS) payments.

Just 8 months later, 3 Croatian banks announced the start of the interbanking payments of small amounts from-to consumers’ accounts within 10 seconds 24/7/365!

First 3 banks are Hrvatska Poštanska Banka (HPB, over 50%+1 state owned), Privredna Banka Zagreb (PBZ, part of the Intesa Sanpaolo group) and Partner Banka (PABA, small private owned bank).

Banks are great, they remind us that the enemies are all around us, all the time and forever – Thomas Jefferson

How the system works?!

Consumers can send/receive money, up to 100,000HRK ($16,000) within 10 seconds, which is the only thing the consumers care for!

How the system works in the background?!

Banks (similar to SWIFT system) have to have deposits in FINA’s NKS account. Daily transactions are counted from 6:30pm to 6:30pm the next day and are settled after the day closes. If the deposited amount isn’t enough to settle all transactions, unsettled ones are returned back as unexecuted and left for the next day (plus interests). The settled amount is the difference between the sum of the settlements between the two banks.

The thoughts...

Croatia is a small country (4 million) and the member of EU. It has 20 operating banks and 8 credit institutions.

All systems in Croatia, banking system included, are pretty slow and not prone to big changes. But when they decide to implement some new way of doing business, they do it within a short time frame and produce it for a long time without further major changes.

The NKS system will be adopted by all banks very soon and the consumers will get used to fast transactions. They will not care about how the system works.

The system is not international but it can become one easily.

Deposits are not a problem for the banks these days as they hold huge amounts of money yet they cannot place them thru loans or investments due to recession and incoming depression... the reset.

International remittances could work the same way. Customers care for those 10 seconds, they don’t care for what’s happening in the background.

The fees? Consumers are used to high fees and every drop will just be a plus. (SWIFT fees dropped significantly too!)

The way to completely avoid crypto in international remittances and keep the existing system intact would be that the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) acts as a clearing house and certifies SWIFT to execute the transactions. Vostro/nostro accounts would be replaced by the deposit accounts within BIS and 5000 old system would continue to roll without new players being accepted to fish in their pond.

My wish (as an XRP holder), in the case this system becomes international, would be that BIS takes over Ripple and implements the tech from which the XRP holders would benefit.

Again, we can only wish things to happen but “Gods” will decide like they always do.

Srdan

Dear Coilers, last month after I’ve recived a boost from Cinnamon, and hoped and waited for the one from Coil, I’ve decided to accept the challenge and to live a month on “blogging/vlogging earnings”.

Nobody can survive on some blogging platform boosts! – Thomas Jefferson

We all know that POTUS3 is almost always right but this time I’ve decided to prove him wrong.

I’ve recived $300 from Cinnamon and $420,73 from Coil. When I’ve seen the amount from Coil I knew it will be pretty hard to do it. I must admit that I’ve expected a bit higher numbers but I got what their system of evaluation said I've deserved.

Out of *$720* which was about 4550HRK (Croatian Kuna) I’ve managed cashed out about +-4250HRK thru Wirex.

The fees are still pretty high and the exchange rates are not too favourable. Much more space for the improvement there.

I’ve immediately put 1350HRK ($214) on a side to pay flat rate duties (in the amount are included health and pension insurance and state tax) and was left with 2900HRK ($460), which is little less than 43% of average salary!

Luckily, I don’t have to pay rent, as the amount I had left would cover 50sq meter flat in middle class neighbourhood and in that case nothing would have been left for other expenses.

This way I’ve devided the money into utilities ($100), food ($200) and “else” ($160) piles. Utilities and food are half of the amount needed but in shared household I count the expenses per person...

That “else” amount was the problem. It was about 1/3 of minimum I’ve used to spend. For those 33HRK ($5,33) a day, one can have 2 beers which is... I mean you know yourself...

I’ve decided to try to change my daily habits a bit, start reading more and attending bars less. Watching series and movies in the evening instead of going out. I’ve been cooking the whole month (I cook more than well and love cooking) with only 2 snacks in baker’s shop during the whole month, one pizza cut and one “burek” (meat filled pastry, a dish of Turkish origin)...

...but it was still not enough.

I managed to live on it from September 15 to October 10. Thou trying my best to just survive in a not expensive country on boosts, I simply wasn’t able to. And believe me, I couldn’t spend any less.

If I haven’t had paid duties, I would have had enough for a very modest living. With the state stealing our hard earned cash, no way to make it.

Coil and Cinnamon boosts are great and pretty generous, there is no one who can say anything against them. The problem is that the micropayments are pretty small (should I say micro? 😃) and still cannot be considered as “real” earnings to add to the boosts thou if micropayments were much higher there wouldn’t be need for boosts I guess.

Let’s see what will next months bring. I guess I should try harder.

Thanks for reading,

Srdan

Dear Coilers, the news broke out today, NASCAR GP, European sister of the most iconic American motorsport competition is coming to my country.

Just weeks after Croatia was confirmed to host a WRC event next year, more good news from the world of motorsport.

Croatia and Automotodrom Grobnik in Rijeka will host one of the most prestigious motorsport competitions in Europe, the NASCAR GP on November 14 and 15, 2020, Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) reports.

Due to the epidemiological situation and restrictions caused by COVID-19, Croatia will now host the third race of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES) Championship instead of the Czech Republic.

The NWES (formerly known as Racecar Euro Series and Euro-Racecar NASCAR Touring Series) is an official NASCAR stock-car racing series based in Europe. It is one of NASCAR's three international-sanctioned series, alongside the NASCAR Pinty's Series and the NASCAR PEAK Mexico Series, and is the most prestigious stock car racing series in Europe.

“In such a challenging and uncertain situation, we must be responsible and give priority to security. It is sad to postpone the Czech Republic for 2021, but at the moment this is the best decision for everyone. We are happy that we are developing a new event in Croatia with very motivated partners from Automotodrom Grobnik.” said the president of NWES Jerome Galpin after visiting the Grobnik runway.

(Grobnik.hr)

“The Croatian coast is beautiful at this time of year. Rijeka is a perfect location, and the Grobnik runway is fast, technically demanding, fascinating! We are enthusiastic that we can offer NWES drivers and teams a new challenge and we are looking forward to the first Croatian NASCAR GP Croatia.”

“Automotodrom Grobnik cannot imagine a better end to the season. This is certainly the first step towards more attractive and numerous car competitions for the audience. This is proof that NWES President Jerome Galpin has recognized all the improvements we have made on the track itself and the entire facility in recent years. One of our goals is to provide support to the Croatian Auto and Karting Association (HAKS) and its president Davorin Štetner, believing that joint cooperation is inevitable for the future of motorsport and drivers so that they can compete in higher ranks. All this makes us happy despite this challenging year and gives us the right to believe that next year will bring some new sports challenges”, said the member of the Management Board of Automotodrom Grobnik Robert Žiković.

(Grobnik.hr)

“We closely monitored the situation with COVID and at a crucial moment managed to ensure the arrival of the spectacular NASCAR for the first time in Croatia. I thank Automotodrom Grobnik and Robert Žiković for the excellent cooperation and I am looking forward to the strengthening of car competitions in Croatia!.” said the president of HAKS Davorin Štetner.

Dear Coilers, I am continuing the series about the Green Horsehoe of Zagreb.

The Lenuci Horseshoe or the Green Horseshoe (Croatian: Lenucijeva potkova, Zelena potkova; “Lenuci” is also sometimes spelled “Lenuzzi”) is a U-shaped system of city squares with parks in downtown (Donji grad) Zagreb, Croatia. The horseshoe was conceived in 1882 by Croatian urbanist Milan Lenuci. The parks were designed between 1883 and 1887, at a time when today's Donji grad formed the southern outskirts of Zagreb. The construction was helped by the efforts to rebuild the city after the 1880 Zagreb earthquake, and in 1889 the entire horseshoe was finished – its two ends were connected by the newly built Zagreb Botanical Garden. The park system consists of seven squares aligned on three straight lines.

https://cinnamon.video/watch?v=434758215004063228

Marko Marulić Square is located in the western part of the Green Lenuci Horseshoe, between the Botanical Garden and Antun, Ivan and Vladimir Mažuranić Square, and is best known for the impressive building of The Croatian State Archives, as well as a few other institutions and private houses of great architectural value.

Marko Marulić was a Croatian writer and Christian humanist, known as the “father of Croatian literature”. He left behind a rich and diverse opus, which is characterized by exceptional literar stylization, knowledge and skill, as well as the ability to adapt to a diverse readership. He wrote most of his works in Latin, but he also left a significant opus in Croatian, as well as several short writings in Italian. In front of the building of the Croatian State Archives there is a monument dedicated to Marulić

The Croatian State Archives, abbreviated HDA, is the central archival institution responsible for collecting information on archival material from Croatia and the world. The Croatian State Archives preserves, and scientifically and professionally processes archival material, documents of state and public institutions, companies, and persons whose activity has spread or extends to the entire part of the Republic of Croatia, but also much wider. The archival material that is kept is important for the entire Republic of Croatia and its history.

Apart from The State Archives, I’d like to single one more building out, which is a protected cultural monument of the city of Zagreb, and is located on the square at house number 7. Baud's house was built at the very beginning of the 20th century (1905-1906) as a rental residential building

The house was built by the construction company Pilar-Mally-Bauda, after which it was named. The author of the foundation is the builder Aladar Baranyai, and in designing its exterior, Bauda shows a pronounced inventiveness and is a unique example of the application of imaginative figural facade ornamentation of accentuated three-dimensionality, inspired by the contemporary authority of Joseph Marie Olbrich's architectural manuscript.

The square’s park, placed in its center, is the place where locals meet, walk their dogs, sit and have their drinks while chatting about the new gossips from the city center.

Good ol’ Zagreb it is. And I love it so much.

Dear Coilers, I’ve made a live video with my first impressions a day after the Cinnamon Video app went live. While using and getting more familiar with it for another 10 days, I’ve been writing down some things I think should be done to make the platform better.

It is not about the app working smoothly, which is not, but that is something which will get better thru the time. It is about some features which are important for the creators and the viewers to have better experience using it.

I have to emphasize that Cinnamon staff listens and acts. They’ve already made 2 big changes, adding the possibility to upload thumbnails in more “videographic” ratio, not just the initial 1:1 and changing the format of shorts being played, now in original vs the previous cropped + full screen one.

(I had written a note down about the shorts format too but it was changed in the meantime so not mentioning in in my list.)

1. In shorts, cinnamon logo disappears in lower left and shows in upper right, it would be nicer and smoother if it fades out low and fades in up. This looks a bit raw!

2. Enabling replying to comments directly!!! This is very important. In the app there is no possibility to post comment under other members’ comments which is very important both to the creator and viewers. Personal approach to viewers is must these days.

3. Editing posted videos!!! I cannot edit already posted video. The text following the video can have some spelling mistakes or the creator wants to add a link to the article connected to it. It was possible in old Cinnamon but the feature does not exist in new form of the platform.

(Apparently it is possible in desktop version (not sure) but many creators, me included, try to keep it all mobile! The whole new and big movement in videography/cinematography is raising for some time now, where videos are not just shot on mobile but also edited and the whole post production is done using mobile devices only!)

4. Sending DMs should be enabled on the platform. Communication between users is transferred to other platforms this way and is sometimes hard to follow.

5. When shorts are opened in app, we are offered two options, “Following” and “For You”, there should definitely be “New” option as well.

6. Resolution of the video can vary, Cinnamon should let creators choose in which resolution to upload and viewers choose in which to watch. For e.g. if I have a video in 4K, I should be able to choose to upload it in 4k but also in 3k, 2K and less... I usually film in 4K or in 1080 (depending on what I plan to do with it in post) but usually export a video in 1080 before uploading it. I would like to have an option to upload full resolution and viewers to choose in which one to watch. (YT allows is for e.g.)

7. As Cinnamon have listened and enabled thumbnails to be uploaded in the sane format again, it would be great (not to say of the greatest importance) that Cinnamon returns original thumbnails to previously uploaded videos. New platform reshaped old thumbnails to 1:1. Hopefully, in the same way, it can return them back to the original form.

8. It would be nice if micropayments in app were shown like in the browser, as decimals matter here. Not the most important thing to do but we all like micropayments and are happy to see every drop. It simply make the creator happy no matter how small the number is. In app, those are rounded so 0,049 is shown as 0 while 0,050 is shown as 0,1. Having all zeros can be frustrating, seeing 0,001 is not!

Sooo, that’s it for now, I’m sure CIN will just get better and better, at least the team shows they are going that way and they show it daily! An amazing team it is, and their relationship to the users is an example to others how it should be done. Bravó!

Thanks for reading,

Srdan

Dear Coilers, today I’ve went for a filming of a new post about Zagreb Green Horshoe, to continue my series about the series of parks in the center of the capital of Croatia.

After I’ve took some shots on Marulic Square, I’ve crossed the street to shot Mazuranics’ Square when I’ve noticed Krešimir who was practicing juggling.

Krešimir was a juggler since his early days and was entertaining people and working with kids for 10 years before he stopped performing professionally.

Performing in theatre shows for children and teaching them different juggling techniques was his job through his youth when he was a member of Medika, a famous squat in Zagreb.

Now he practices for himself, not to forget the tricks and to keep himself in shape. A hobby it is for him. Interesting hobby, I hope you agree.
