A new day, a new adventure.

While watching back some old footage from a trip I made to Vietnam back in 2018, I got the idea to make a new video.

I filmed a lot of street related scenes in Vietnam. I dind't even knew I made so much footage of the streets of different cities.

So I couldn't wait another day to make a new edit for you guys. I always get so hyped when I have a new idea to work on. So I took my time, sat down, made some coffee and started editing.

I gladly present to you, my new edit: Vietnam Street Scenes!

Welcome to the second blog about my backpacking trip through Thailand. Today you can read and see a video about my first full day of exploring Thailand.

**Bangkok, Thailand – February 3rd, 2020
**

I woke up after a pretty good night of sleep in the capital of Thailand, Bangkok! Feeling a bit jet lagged and sore from the few beers I had drunk. Though, I felt energetic to start the first full day of exploring and was excited for some amazing adventures. By a full day of exploring, I do not literally mean a full day, as I woke up around 13:00 PM. This was not at all according plan… 😅

Back at home, in the Netherlands, I made some notes with things that I wanted to visit while I was in Bangkok. Because it wasn’t my first time in Bangkok, some very famous places, like the grand palace, were not included.

The Golden Mount

The first destination in Bangkok was the Golden Mount Temple (Wat Saket). I could see it from my hostel and it was only a 15 minute walk. One reason I always walk short distances, is because I like to see what the daily life of people in a country like. On my way to The Golden Mount, I stopped at the 7-Eleven to grab a quick “breakfast”. I had to choose the very famous 7-Eleven ham and cheese sandwich, as I remembered these from my first trip to Thailand.

Street next to my Hostel, with the Golden Mount in the distance

With two pairs of ham and cheese sandwiches in my hand, and a bottle of water in my other hand, I walked farther to my destination. Along the way I spotted this awesome fire station at which I had to stop and make some pictures. I always love to spot these little things, and am happy walking past by it, and not sitting in a car and not being able to stop.

The Golden Mount Fire Station

After a little stop at the fire station I could already see The Golden Mount appearing in the distance. Walking a little closer, I remembered that I have to wear a pair of long trousers. I was lucky I had brought a pair of zip-off pants with me. The entrance fee to the Golden Mount for tourists is 50 baht per person. After 344 steps I had arrived at the top of the temple. Why did I decide to do the climb and visit this temple? There is a very simple answer to this question: The stunning 360 degree view!

Amazing view at The Golden Mount

Wat Arun (Riverside temple)

After enjoying the amazing view for some time it was time to go to the next destination; Wat Arun. The Wat Arun is opposite of the river from the Grand Palace. It is a 35 minute walk from The Golden Mount to Wat Arun. A Buddhist temple which was under construction the last time I visited Thailand. This temple is easily one of the most stunning temples in Bangkok, not only because of its riverside location but also because the design is very different from the other temples you can visit in the Thai capital.

Wat Arun

On my way walking to the Wat Arun I had to stop at a local food stall. I always tend to stop at local restaurant with many locals eating there. Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of neither the food or the restaurant. After a long walk I arrived at the riverside where the Wat Arun is located. There was only a river in between me and the famous temple. So I walked around and found a ferry that could bring me across the river for only 3 baht ($0.01). Arriving at the temple, the entrance fee for the Wat Arun was only 100 Baht ($3). And I was just in time, because it was sunset time in Bangkok. One of the best moments to visit this gorgeous place.

Rooftop bar

After exploring the temple and sitting along the riverside I spotted some rooftop bars on the other side of the river. These rooftop bars looked perfectly to enjoy a beer and watch the sunset on opposite of Wat Arun. This is exactly what I did and did not hesitate to hop back on the boat and find my way to a random rooftop bar on the opposite of the river. After around 15 minutes I found my way through some back alleys and found my way up a stairs which lead me to a rooftop bar. The drinks were somewhat expensive, butt well worth the view.

Rooftop Bar

After drinking some beers it was time to head back to my hostel. I decided to stop by Khao San Road again, because I know this place and I was sure I could find some very delicious street food around this area. After a 30 minute walk I enjoyed some street food at Khao San Road and headed back to my hostel. At the hostel I drank a few beers again with my new Japanese and Chinese friends.

Today, I want to share some pictures from the beautiful place of La Antigua. Antigua is a small, pictorestic, city surrounded by volcanoes in southern Guatemala.

Here are some pictures I took during my trip to Antigua (Guatemela) in October 2016.

The social network LinkedIn is following the footsteps of Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook. LinkedIn has officially started testing it’s new “LinkedIn Stories” feature in the Netherlands. LinkedIn says:

“During this time, it’s only available to members and select LinkedIn Pages located in Brazil and the Netherlands.”

Are you a user of LinkedIn and do you also want to test this new feature? Do not be worried, they will be releasing this feature more widely soon! 🙌

In 2013, Snapchat was the first social media network that started working with stories feature. The feature made it possible to post a series of snaps that would remain active and viewable for a full day.

How do LinkedIn stories work?

The feature allows users to add photos, videos, texts and stickers to their 'story'. Once posted, your story will be shown to connections and followers for 24 hours. Same as a normal post on LinkedIn, connections and followers can share your stories with others.

It’s important to know that for now, you can only create a story from the LinkedIn mobile app.

**The future of Stories
**Whether you like Stories feature or not, there is a reason why all social media platforms are adopting the Stories feature. Stories do fit perfectly by the usage of social media of the new generation. They grew up communicating with mobile phones and video calling.

LinkedIn is following the success of Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. There may also be an opportunity that Twitter will add this feature to its platform. Twitter just purchased Chroma Labs, which specializes in Stories content.

This, of course, doesn’t mean that we will see Twitter Stories anytime soon. But there is a slight change.

Welcome to my very first blog series here on Coil. As I just finished school, bought a house and started at my new job, I gave myself the opportunity to go backpacking in Thailand (Asia) for three weeks. Luckily just before the COVID-19 pandemic struck the world.

In this blog series I am going to take you with me on the little daily adventures I experienced.

February 2nd, 2020 – Bangkok, Thailand

It was around 19:00 O'clock when I set my first steps outside of Suvarnabhumi Airport. The first thing I did was change some currency. I found out that I would get the best value out of the money I brought with me, I needed to change the money in the basement of the airport, and not right away through customs. So I changed the euros, dollars and some spare British pounds to the Thai National currency BAHT.

With some cash in my pocket I found my way out of the airport. Because of my last trip to Thailand I knew there was a government shuttle bus service, connecting Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) with the historical center of Bangkok City. This was the cheapest way to reach the well known backpacker street “Khao San Road”.

Bangkok Bus Line: S1

Khao San Road

Khao San Road is a street where many tourists, especially backpackers come at night to party and get laid. At night Khao San Road really takes off. Neon signs flickering, music blasting from all of the night bars and loads of delicious “street” food. You can even eat spiders, scorpions and crocodile. It’s just a street of pure chaos which was my first destination in Bangkok, Thailand. I crossed the street with my 60 liters backpack on my back and a smaller backpack in the front. While walking through the street I got offered many massages and a drunk guy even turned around to say few nice words! 😂 (Exclusive Cinnamon video for Coil subscribers)

Khao San Road

From Khao San Road I had to walk 11 minutes to my next and last destination of the day named Here Hostel. I had booked a bed in a 6-bed mixed dormitory room which I shared with 2 German girls, 1 Chinese guy and 1 Japanese guy.

In Thailand, dorms are usually provided with air conditioning. Bunk beds are equipped with curtains, light, electricity socket, and a cabinet in which you can store your baggage (with your own lock).

After I had unpacked some of my stuff and went for a shower, I drank a few beers with my new made Chinese and Japanese friends. At around 12 o’clock I decided it was a good moment to get some sleep. The plan is to wake up early the next day, so I can start exploring Bangkok.
Here's a picture of my first hostel.
