Information about the Plants vs Zombies 2 game

The only thing that changed was related to the new Shop offers for Imp Pear, Pokra, and Explode-O-Vine.

I have updated the page Upcoming Offers for Gems in the Shop accordingly.

Summary of the changes:

  • Added various Rhubarbarian-related offers in the Shop.
  • Added Appease-mint and the pinatas related to it for the period June 06 – June 13.

Respectively, I have updated the pages

The only changes introduced by this data push are related to adding the missing Conceal-mint, Spear-mint, Fila-mint, and Bombard-mint pinatas for gems, mints, and coins.

I have updated the page Upcoming Offers for Gems in the Shop.

Summary of the changes:

  • Updated The Next Power Mints. Fila-mint and Bombard-mint are now known for sure to be featured the next week.
  • Updated the Upcoming Offers for Gems in the Shop. Pinatas-for-coins for Appease-mint, Enchant-mint, and Contain-mint family plants have appeared, pinatas for the next week's Arma-mint, Fila-mint, and Bombard-mint too. Yes, the Bombard-mint pinata for coins won't be dropping Bombard-mint seeds. No Conceal-mint or Spear-mint pinatas for coins, gems, and mint, either – hopefully, this will be fixed later.

For the documented changes, see Haem's announcement.

New stuff

  • New loading screen
  • The News have been updated.
  • New Calendar tabs: June, July, Summer Nights.
  • The Thymed event icon can pulsate; this is currently disabled.
  • New NPC – Peashooter
  • New pinata types – Summer Nights pinata and Zomboss pinata.
  • New plant – Rhubarbarian. (Mega Gatling Pea isn't quite ready yet – no Almanac data.)
    • Rhubarbarian doesn't freeze and cannot be stolen by the Parrot.
    • Rhubarbarian has an unobtainable costume (grass skirt).
  • There are new types of quests (“Plant seed in Zen Garden for 1 gem”, “Win Arena match for 2 mints”, “Play Penny's Pursuit level for 3 gems”, etc.) but it is not clear to me when and to who the latter two will be given.
  • New Thymed events: Summer Nights, Circus 2.
  • There will be a completely new, 15-level Thymed event, with new zombies, called Sportzball. It's not ready yet; won't be in version 9.7.1.
  • New 5-level Epic quests – Rhubarbarian, Mega Gatling Pea
  • 7 new Arenas: Joust126boost, Joust153, Joust154, Joust155, Joust156, Joust156Boost, Joust157.
  • There will be a Circus-themed, 29-level Penny's Pursuit event with its own Zomboss, modelled after the original Circus Thymed event.

Changes/nerfs

  • The Progressive ad week will be no more, I guess, because the images associated with it have been removed.
  • The limit of maximum 2 purchases of the League Bundles has been removed.
  • The limit of maximum 1 purchases of the gemium plants has been removed. No, this doesn't make sense to me, either.
  • Potato Mine's arming time decreases to 11 seconds at level 14, instead of at level 15, possibly fixing one problem when a level update didn't bring any benefits.
  • Some quests visible only to new players have been removed, the rewards for others have been nerfed. (For instance, “Do 2 world levels for 6 gems” is now “Do 5 world levels for 2 gems”, just like for the normal players.)
  • Penny's Pursuit level rift_026, which originally had a condition “Kill X Roman Gargantuars” now has this condition changed to “Kill X Gargantuars of any kind”

Bug fixes

  • Corrected a spelling error in the German picture for “Level up”
  • Buttercup being eaten no longer incurs penalties in the Arena.
  • Buttercup's picture has been centered properly.
  • The Pinata Party level LOD_143 was missing from the OBB file; fixed. (This was never really a problem; since the game fetched it from the CDN.)
  • The first level of the Springening Thymed event had a Feastivus zombie (a Troglodite) by mistake. This has now been corrected to an Ice Age zombie.

I continue analyzing the beta version of 9.7.1 that I have obtained. It occurred to me that it might be helpful if people could see on a single page what the upcoming plant-of-the-week is, or what the future Calendar tabs will be and what rewards they will drop. So, I have created these two new Wiki pages:

Today's data push added a few new items to the Shop. In particular:

  • We now know for sure that the next 3 power mints will be Appease-mint, Enchant-mint, and Contain-mint. The Next Power Mints
  • Upcoming Offers for Gems in the Shop. New Heath Seeker pinata for gems, as well as power mint seeds, including an offer of 5 Enchant-mint seeds for 20 mints (quadruple the usual price!), which I hope is a honest mistake.

I have obtained a soft-release of the next version of the game, 9.7.1, and have updated the various quests and information pages with the new things I've found there. There will probably be a few other new things when the new version is officially released and it downloads the CDN data from the server.

Also, I'll probably make a separate post with the undocumented changes in the new version after it is officially announced on Reddit.

For now, we have:

Summary of the changes:

  • The Next Power Mints. As predicted, Enlighten-mint, Reinforce-mint, and Bombard-mint are now available. The data in the game says they should have been available from May 09, but the update arrived only on May 10.
  • Upcoming Offers for Gems in the Shop. Removed the expired entries and added the new power mint-related offers. Yes, this is not a mistake, 10 Enlighten-mint seeds for 20 gems can be purchased 7 times – not 5, like the other power mint-related offers.

Still, too few power mint seeds can be purchased and they are too expensive. This Improve-mint event is turning out being a Disappoint-mint.

It seems that PopCap have decided to no longer feature the plant-of-the-week in the Arena streak rewards #3 & #7. This means that these rewards will remain constant and will no longer change. Streak reward #5 contains plants from the family-of-the-season and changes with the season – usually every 4 weeks but it will change every week during the Champions Blowout season.

So, I decided to modify my script that extracts these rewards from the data files of the game and presents them in human-readable form so that it can display the rewards for all future tournaments that are defined in the game, together with the dates on which they will appear.

Here are the results. The usual caveats apply:

  • This is still experimental, work-in-progress. There might be bugs and I might not be extracting the right data.
  • Note that currently I cannot determine the end date of the last tournament's reward.
  • PopCap can change any and all of this at any time with a data push.

OK, with this out of the way, here are the results:
