The May Calendar rewards are pretty similar to those of April, except that we'll get 1,000 coins more (because it has one day more) and the Springening pinatas have been replaced by the usual Cold/Greens/Electricity pinatas.

Please note that the pinata contents and seed drop probability tables can change between now and the time the Calendar grants the respective reward. The Calendar itself won't change but the reward tables change literally every Tuesday as the Pinata Party and Arena rewards change.

No significant nerfs this time, compared to March, so hopefully the nerfs of the monthly Calendar rewards have ended. Just 600 coins less than in March – but that's because April is 1 day shorter. Most of the pinatas have been replaced with a Springening pinata, but that's related to the Springening event around Easter.

The only relevant change this data push made was to schedule the appearance of a Draftodil pinata for gems (with progressively increasing price) in the Shop.

I have updated the Upcoming Offers for Gems in the Shop page accordingly.

This data push changed only the pinata reward tables. Accordingly, I've updated

Well, I'm back. Sort of. The important thing is that I can analyze the game again, which is, I guess, what matters the most for you. :)

I have updated the relevant information:

  • Pinata Party Rewards as of 2022-03-22. They will change again with the data push later today; I'll update the information then too.
  • Arena Pinata Rewards as of 2022-03-22. Again, these will change with the data push later today; I'll update the information then.
  • Upcoming Epic Quests. Removed those that have ended. Apparently, Beghouled Blitz has been scrapped. It's not visible from the table, but the upcoming Hurrikale epic quests, which used to be configured to have 8 steps (this was unusual) has been changed to have the usual 5 steps.
  • Upcoming Arena Tournaments. Nothing special here; removed those that have ended.
  • The Next Power Mints. Nothing special here, either – added the exact dates on which Contain-mint will be available.
  • Upcoming Offers for Gems in the Shop. Too many changes; see for yourselves.
  • Costumes that Can Appear in the Shop. The only change is that one costume, with ID 121, called “Tile Turnip Russian Hat” and costing 3,000 coins has been removed from the set of costumes that can appear in the Shop and is now unobtainable. If this is PopCap's idea of sanctioning Russia, this is ludicrous, but whatever.

The computer I use to analyze the game has died, together will all my tools for it. I'll order a new one on Monday but it will be many weeks before I have a working setup and can continue publishing information about the game.

Sorry, folks, you'll have to make-do without the kind of information I used to provide for some time. Quite a long time, I'm afraid. Apologies for letting you down.

There was a data push. It modified the Pinata Party and Arena pinata rewards and also fixed a bug that would have resulted in the next tournament not being a Boosterama. I have updated the wiki:

I know that a lot of you appreciate the information about PvZ2 that I publish on this blog. However, there is a small problem here.

A blog is most suitable for a continuous flow of information – news, articles, etc. But there is stuff in PvZ2 that really needs to be on a static page that people can bookmark. Examples include the current Pinata Party and Arena rewards, offers for gems in the Shop, etc.

While I do have such information on my blog, I have two alternatives for publishing it, neither of which I really like. First, I can keep editing one and the same blog post, as the information changes. This won't change its URL (so any bookmarks of it won't be invalidated) – but it won't change its place on the blog, either, and as new blog posts are published, it will end up behind, on older pages, making it harder for newcomers to find it.

Second, I can occasionally delete such posts and re-create them with the same title. This will move the to the beginning of the blog while their URL (which is derived from the post's title) remains the same. That's what I've been mostly doing but not regularly enough (so some posts do fall behind) and this wipes out such statistics like how many people have visited the post (i.e., how popular it is).

Third, the blog does not allow for the inclusion of images, which is really a handicap sometimes.

What we really need, is a wiki for such information. So, I created one:

PvZ2Info

Two problems with it, though, so it is still experimental and I'm not sure how long I'll be able to support it.

First of all, I am totally unfamiliar with wiki formatting, which is why this wiki looks awful. The blog uses the Markdown formatting language, which is the same as the one used by Reddit and GitHub – a language I am familiar with. I'm also familiar with plain HTML – but a wiki is totally foreign to me; I've never had to edit one before.

So, apologies for the ugliness and if any of you has the required experience and time to improve it, any help would be appreciated.

Second, the site hosting the wiki (Fandom) is really hostile to users connecting over Tor – which I do for privacy reasons. I am constantly forced to solve CAPTCHAs, occasionally I'm told that my IP has been banned for vandalism (it's actually the IP of some Tor exit node that a vandal happened to have used in the past) and so on. I don't know for how long I'll be able to keep up with these annoyances.

Anyway – take a look, feel free to suggest improvements, but don't become too dependent on this wiki existing and me supporting it because it might turn out to be a project that doesn't work out.

You might have noticed that after playing the Arena or Penny's Pursuit Zomboss fight, there is a “Reload” button next to the “Let's Rock” button. Tapping this button places your plants exactly where you placed them at the beginning the last time you did this fight, which is very convenient, since you don't have to spend time to place them again. Problem is, this button does not always appear – which is rather annoying.

The game has the ability to remember the initial placement of plants for the last played Last Stand level. (All Arenas and Penny's Pursuit Zomboss fights are Last Stands – where you place your plants before starting the fight – but there are some levels of this kind on the various worlds, too.) This information is kept in the file local_profiles (and is not synced between devices, if you play on more than one), in a variable named m_lastStandLoadout.

So, why doesn't it always work? Well, it seems that this is a bug or, more exactly, a design flaw.

It turns out that this feature was designed for the Arena – before there was Penny's Pursuit. It just happens to work on all Last Stand levels. However, the way it was designed, before it can start working, it has to be enabled. It is not enabled by default (e.g., when you launch the game). In order for it to be enabled, you have to visit the Arena. You don't need to actually fight there – just visit the Arena and look at the leaderboard.

Once the feature is enabled, the button will not magically appear. However, the game will start remembering the initial plant placements of the last Last Stand level that you play and will show the button the next time you play the same level (provided that you haven't played any other Last Stand levels since).

So, the button is missing if you launch the game, go to Penny's Pursuit and fight Zomboss. No matter how many times you fight him, there will be no “Reload” button. For the button to start appearing, use the following workaround:

  1. Launch the game.

  2. Visit the Arena. No need to play it.

  3. Play a Last Stand level. The button won't appear (not even if playing this level was the last thing you did before closing the game) – but your setup will be remembered.

  4. The next times you play the same level (and provided that you haven't played any other Last Stand levels since), the “Reload” button will be present.

Keep in mind that the ability to remember Last Stand setups is disabled not only when the game is closed but also when switching to a different profile, if the player has more than one.
