The 80s and 90s in Anime

Anime is a time capsule of old content that is waiting for new viewers to watch it one day. Anything source of entertainment even anime is considered a piece that holds the history when it was made. Here is a list of anime that are old school from the 80s to the 90s and deserve the same respect as new anime. Plus, without the past, there would no inspiration for the future or present of newer anime being produced. The list is as follows Great Teacher Onizuka (1999), Fushigi Yuugi (1995), Trigun (1998), Yu Yu Hakusho (1992), Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer (1984), and Slam Dunk (1993). Great Teacher Onizuka has a teacher who is very dedicated to his students. He has to impress a class of troubled high school students and teachers who doubt him in teaching. Fushigi Yuugi is a series of otherworldly proportions where Miaka is transported to a country of Kutou via a book. The interesting aspect of the series is the universe taking place in the book ofThe Four Gods Earth and Sky. Trigun follows a poster of an infamous outlaw going by the name of Vash the Stampede. Vash has various bounty hunters and other people hot on his tail for all the hope of catching him. Yu Yu Hakusho has ties to the supernatural world of Yuusuke as a spirit detective. He gets this chance from Koenma to be a spirit detective of continuing life a second time. Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer explores a character of Ataru who accidentally proposes to Lum. Lum joins her other alien friends and forms an indirect take over of Ataru's house. Slam Dunk competitively follows other popular sports anime and provides a story of a boy trying to impress a girl. Through the process of the show, Sakuragi Hanamichi actually has latent potential in basketball and has a passion for the sport. Click below for more details concerning the shows and where to stream them legally in America.

False Prophets in Anime

Anime is a platform where lots of ideas are considered and done in the industry. The creativity of anime is sometimes spot on and other times are just straight up genius. Being creativity comes in many ways and different creators take many approaches to how they present the anime or story of their passion. The innovation being applied today is making characters and making them seem human with many secrets about them. The post is about characters who seem innocent but actually are hiding in broad daylight. Misleading is one thing that these characters do best which are Inquisitor Mozgus (Berserk), Enrico Pucci (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure), Father Cornello (Fullmetal Alchemist), Donato Porpora (Tokyo Ghoul), and Father Enrico Maxwell (Hellsing). A common link of all these characters is either false prophets or sinful leaders of religion. Inquisitor Mozgus, who is from Berserk, follows a dark path of protecting heresy gone bad. He is a perfect representation of what the world of Berserk has to offer and continues to poison his followers with lies. Enrico Pucci is a priest who is misguided in the pursuit of advancing his power of the Heaven stand. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure really has some wacky characters and Pucci's ability of time warping is really a crazy thing to imagine. Father Cornello uses alchemy to achieve false miracles and slowly gains a reputation of city leader in Liore. In the Fullmetal Alchemist anime, he is depicted as a twisted and self-absorbed person. Donato Porpora is a wolf in sheep's fur because of the ghoulish creature in Toyko Ghoul. He abuses his priesthood in the orphanage for his relentless appetite for humans. Father Enrico Maxwell rids the world of Nazi vampires throughout the Hellsing series. However, his priest outlook on life does not apply to the innocents he has killed for the anti-vampire campaign. The blog is inspired by Brittany Vincent from SyFy Wire, and let's hope that other religious leaders do not follow the path of the ones discussed.

Fanfics and Anime

Anime is a forum where people create a sense of freedom in different variations. Expressing yourself through in anime is such a staple piece of the industry that everyone wants to achieve it in an individual way. Today is a post looking more in the writing of fan fictions which links multiple fandoms. Fanfictions are stories involving inspirations from other stories and making it original by fans of the material. Usually, the main custom of writing a fan fiction includes taking the rules of the already established universe and apply them to your story. The already established universe plays a key part in most successful fanfictions for the rules actually makes it more appealing for fans reading. A perfect example of this is the movie of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The idea of the multiverse theory gives fans an explanation of why the characters are present in the world of written fan fiction. Also, if the multiverse is not applicable in your inspiration for the writing, then do as much research as possible before writing. Research is another aspect that allows more positive reactions in your particular piece. Finding information on the context of an anime universe is so helpful because fans are less likely to judge a fan fiction if it does this. Fans can be picky when it comes to fan made stories. You need to address the main unanswered questions concerning your fan fiction. The inspiration for this post comes from a Quora question on anime characters entering a bar together. The proposed answer for the question by Ian Saayman addresses the anime characters and gives lots of insight into how they act and to what they drink. Just so you know, there is not a clear reason why the anime characters are meeting nor how they meet one another. I suggest taking a look at the answered question below and see if it is worth your time in reading.

Anime and the Four Horsemen

Important Notice: [SPOILERS] The blog would contain spoilers involving characters that are referenced through personalities and actions concerning the Four Horsemen.

Today is a challenge from the amino anime page on the Four Horsemen. The goal of the challenge was to use characters from anime and explain the four characters and connect them to the Four Horsemen. I found an entry that really got my attention which was by『❦』Ally 『ssq 』on the anime amino page. Four Horsemen are often depicted as a precursor to the apocalypse and are deeply rooted in my religion of Christianity. Anyway,『❦』Ally 『ssq 』's version of the Four Horsemen is as follows Isabella from The Promised Neverland, Seraph of the End's Guren Ichinose, Gakuhō Asano from Assassination Classroom, and Hell Girl's Ai Enma. Isabella is the horsemen of conquest which she exercises her control through love and comfort to the children at the orphanage. She literally rides the white horse of triumph and majority of the time she exceeds in creating an atmosphere of selling human cattle. Guren Ichinose is the horseman of war and is shown as the Lieutenant Colonel of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army in Seraph of the End. Guren is the embodiment of war, for he is soaked in the blood in those who died in his selfish pursuit of restoring a friends life which had great consequences on humanity in the anime. Gakuhō Asano is the symbolic horseman of famine in Assassination Classroom. As the board chairman of Kunigigaoka Junior High School, Asano executes control through the motion of the strong surviving and Class-E represent the “undesirables” of Asano's educational plans. Kunigigaoka Junior High School has the elite portion of students where they receive better education and Class-E students who are the poor and have malnutrition in their education. Ai Emna is the horseman of death for she died and came to back as a messenger of death. Ai is Hell Girl in the anime and the Master of Hell used her hatred for vengeance as a tool for granting death to a person's enemy. I hope that by condensing 『❦』Ally 『ssq 』's blog about the Four Horsemen gave clarity to the characters involved and the anime shows referenced.

Exposing Anime and Its Secrets

It is interesting to take a look at the art styles reflected in anime. The style is a direct variation of the creator and the staff helping to produce the animated versions of the drawings. The staff is really the ones who are under immense pressure to continue and aid the anime industry of production houses. A startling fact of how much time it takes to produce one 30 minute episode is about three weeks usually with about 100 people helping the episode. The only option to overcome the super long process is to partner with other production companies or divide the tasks with multiple departments to get the series ready for streaming. Working in the anime industry is a very taxing job and the workload is absurd to even fathom. According to NISHIl_terumi on twitter, she feels sad when a young anime fan would ask of it being worth it and coming over to Japan to make anime. Her response includes the answer to saying “...it is not advisable to come to Japan and participate in anime work.”; for she is “overworked” in her career. Animation has “high quality” and has a “low budget” and yet, animators work for “low wages and long hours.” The usual compensation for a beginning animator is about 80,000 yen which roughly converts to about $716 in America. Probably, one of the most frustrating things in the animation industry are cartoons are more likely to award the staff depending on the success of the show or movie. However, “Anime is different.”, for having no 'royalties' nor 'income distribution' in place for successful anime. ThomasRomain shares a personal of a friend working for an anime commercial for 55 hours straight; and as a result, his health greatly declined due to overworking. I absolutely agree with him saying that “A lot of people in the Japanese anime industry just lost common sense. Horrible conditions are becoming the norm.” I do not know why the conditions have gotten this bad in Japan. I feel that the traditional style of anime is heavily guarded and it never left from the first instances of the origins it came from. Another thing to add, Japan is stuck in a time loop of keeping old customs especially embracing its origins of paper-based drawing. The digital age has not caught up yet for artists as it has for anime streaming on the internet. So, if you want to be an animator, then it is probably a good idea to be a freelancer and work for yourself. I hope working conditions improve in the anime industry. My challenge for those reading this entry is to please take a stand and become advocates for high deserving employees of anime that are overlooked. I personally thank Brian Ashcraft for his time and commitment to gathering various tweets about this issue in anime.

Naruto: The Good and the Bad

Naruto and Naruto Shippuden both give insight into the ninja life and a character's greatest goal of Hokage. There are things that fans compare in both adaptations like plot and storytelling. Today is a blog of what does Shippuden does better and worse compared to Naruto. The action depicted in the second adaption is seen more often in a better light because the fighting sequences have stronger characters than the younger versions of ninjas. Humour is a measure of comic relief and time of laughs for the audience to enjoy situations better in a show. The moments of humor in Shippuden is a little short than in Naruto due to the mature tone. Suspense is carried out more in the series for dark themes like the Great Shinobi War. Fillers are supposed to expend time for creators to add to the quality of specific arcs and the ones shown in the anime are subpar in public opinion than the originals. Emotions run high in the sequel for reasons of harder stakes depicted and more intense situations. These high emotional states are intertwined into life-threatening battles of victory to melancholy deaths where emotions are negative and positive. Movies in the Shippuden franchise are considered as big budget fillers and fans of the series possibly wanted the attention focused on the show instead. I hope the content is worth the time spent in the love of Naruto from myself and others.

Anime Rip-Offs

Anime is an industry where there are so many episodes and movies that it exceeds the human capacity for watching them all in a lifetime. In the world of anime, there are constant appeals to inspirations from other shows and other source materials. One source material that comes to mind is the releases of movies especially ones made by Hollywood. It makes sense that anime would take ideas from outside sources and vice-versa in foreign countries. However, this can be a problem when a creator in entertainment takes too many ideas from anime or other copyrighted material and possibly rip off a series. Here are cases where the argument of “a ripoff” was used in Lion King (Kimba the White Lion), Inception (Paprika), Atlantis: The Lost Empire (Nadia/Castle In The Sky), Lupin The Third (Arsene Lupin), and Daicon III And IV. Lion King made headlines when it debuted in the 1990s but had setbacks over accusations of ripping off Kimba the White Lion some 30 years before. Inception was a direct inspiration of Paprika and both movies follow the use of technology utilized in dreams. Yet again, Disney is accused of ripping off Atlantis: The Lost Empire from Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water which actually ripped off Laputa: Castle in the Sky. The movies of Atlantis, Nadia, and Laputa are all movies that explore ancient civilizations and weapons of the past endangering the present. Lupin the Third is an anime that takes place after the story of Arsene Lupin as a sequel of the grandson. The legal circumstances of Lupin the Third was settled in international dubbing as the name was changed due to copyrighted reasons. Daicon III and IV are huge illegal animated shorts that were shown at Daicon Sci-fi conventions and made from amateur fans. Fun fact, GAINAX got its start from the Daicon shorts in anime festivals and the first name of the company was Daicon Films.

Anime God-Like Characters

Important Notice: [SPOILERS] The content could spoil characters mentioned and parts of anime shows of the involved characters.

In anime, we are introduced to characters whose powers seem like fictional gods and goddesses. These all-powerful characters either are aware of the powers or completely clueless to their powers. They have the ability to change everything in battles or even in everyday life of the surroundings n respected universes. To have the status of a god-like character is between the options of having the title of a god or having immense power to be god-like. The characters being discussed are Beerus – Dragon Ball Super, Haruhi Suzumiya – The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Ryuk – Death Note, Belldandy – Oh! My Goddess, and Lain Iwakura – Serial Experiments Lain. Dragon Ball has many gods in the series but Beerus is the god of destruction in his realm and is a character who can destroy worlds at will. Goku tries to be a mentor towards Beerus in hope to teach him about humans' potential in the world. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya finds Haruhi, who has powers that is unknown to her, trying to make sense about life. She has powers that are heavily depended on her mood and if a bad mood occurs then be prepared for reality changing events. Ryuk is shinigami or a death god of the Death Note series. He is a death god that loves apples and carries a death note similar to Light Yagami. Belldandy is a goddess that takes her job seriously and tries to limit her power in human proximity. Oh! My Goddess is a series that has gods and goddesses to protect Yggdrasil (a massive computer network) and was made in in the 1980s. Lain Iwakura explores the virtual reality of The Wire and starts to be omnipotent in the Serial Experiments Lain anime. Throughout the series, Lain starts to lose her sense of humanity and views society like a god looking down on humans due to The Wire. Remember, these characters are only a glimpse into the vast world of anime of god-like characters. Read a more in-depth experience about the characters in the SyFy Wire article by Brittany Vincent on the site below.

Sony's “Be Moved” in Anime

Sony is seeking expansion in the anime industry through Aniplex. Aniplex is a Japanese anime and music production where any anime merchandise is a huge selling point. According to CBR, “An analyst says Sony has the expertise needed to succeed in globalizing anime, but it lacks the tools to stay ahead of the competition.” One way that Sony seeks globalization is using Aniplex's company to carry out the measures necessary in China. The goal is to use Aniplex for Sony's impact in the Chinese market for anime. Expanding in China means that Sony would have a greater impact in anime market than it has already had via Funimation. The proposal is set to be located in Shanghai of China for expanding its presence and marketing efforts in the region. The Shanghai's office is set forward efforts of sellings anime products online and helping China in original animated shows. The expansion of Sony in China could be a precursor for what is coming for Sony's future in Aniplex and Funimation. Maybe, Sony expanding in China has an indirect variation in Funimation's partnership with Chinese streaming platform bilibili. With Funimation's partnership and Aniplex's presence in China at play, what does the future of Sony might look like? Is it a future in globalizing into an empire of worldwide distribution in anime? Or, is it a future that yields unsuccessful results for Sony and its stake in media? These questions are unknown and still would be unanswered till the point of it revealing itself. Give thanks for Megan Peters from comicbook.com for her story of Sony and read more of the articles of her work in fan-based writings.

Anime Characters Seeking Revenge

Important Notice: [SPOILERS} Specific characters are mentioned where personal baggage are reflected in battle.

Anime is known for its diversity and various stories from different perspectives. One such case of diversity is sometimes a character getting or exacting revenge on others that did them wrong. The best dishes served cold include the following shows of Fullmetal Alchemist, Hunter x Hunter, Code Geass, Psycho-Pass, Naruto Shippuden, and Afro Samurai. Fullmetal Alchemist follows very personal revenge of Roy Mustang and his quest to find justice. Hunter x Hunter has Kurapika trying to make sense with his tribe and their disappearance in the anime. Code Geass embraces Lelouch's campaign of resetting his past in the Holy Britannian Empire. Psycho-Pass explores Kogami challenging the status quo of the laws and government and seeking personal justice. Naruto Shippuden has many villains deserving of revenge but the icing on the cake is Shikamaru enacting a strategy to succeed a very personal matter in an enemy. Afro Samurai focuses on Afro following the honor and other traditional samurai values in overtaking the number one spot for samurai. I hope that I explained the brief backgrounds of the characters seeking revenge in the least spoiling way possible. Also, take a look at Felicia Miranda's article about characters getting their revenge in anime for the entire reason for this blog.
