Bits Of Good

TechForGood

Earlier this year I wrote a post in the XRP Community Blog about how the XRP Tip Bot and 3D printing are a technological match made in heaven that allows help tackle the pressing problem of global inadequate housing crisis. Over the last few months I have come to the conclusion that I left out an essential part of the equation: Coil.

It all boils down to boosting efficiency in maximizing awareness and donation streams. Just like the XRP Tip Bot allows donors to engage with the charitable organizations they support and raise funds via a single action: a tweet, Coil can enable content creators to raise awareness about the causes they care about while raising funds for them in the process: publishing a Coil enabled blog post or video.

While it could be argued that the title of this blog post could read “Web-monetization: A true #TechForGood enabler” instead, it is several particularities within the Coil ecosystem that makes it such an ideal environment for charitable efforts: A solid user base with the XRP Community as its backbone, the possibility of monetizing YouTube videos, its genius platform launched a few months ago and the exponential momentum being built by initiatives such as the Coil Blogging Club, just to name a few.

In the XRP Community, there is a number of charity organizations and campaigns that have seen the potential of enabling XRP donation streams which content creators can already support through Coil payments. This can be done either via the Coil platform by simply placing the Twitter Tip Bot ILP payment pointer of the campaign they wish to support in the payout section in the Coil Creator Settings, or by monetizing an external website with a tag as explained in this tutorial. For example, in the screenshot below the payment pointer for Children On The Edge, a registered non-profit organization in the UK that directly accepts XRP donations via the XRP Tip Bot and Coil/ILP streams is shown:

As always, care must be taken in regards to which organizations to trust and support. Content creators that would like to support charitable causes can check out those vetted and endorsed by the Good Souls Group, a charity support and governance group within the XRP Community:

St.Jude: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in the United States specializing in the fight against childhood cancer.

Children On The Edge: A non-profit organization in the UK supporting children at risk worldwide due to post-conflict or post-natural disaster situations.

@wanderingware: Managing a project to plant trees with the objective of making the XRP validator network carbon neutral and fight climate change teaming up with One Tree Planted.

@bigbuckor: Working with Filter Of Hope to bring clean water to the developing world by donating long-term use water filters to communities living in poverty worldwide.

@cranders71: Project lead of Happy Kids Dirty Hands, raising XRP and other digital assets to support exeperiential learning in public education in the United States.

@onemorehome: A campaign supporting New Story Charity to raise funds to build homes for families in need in the developing world.

As the Internet Of Value story unravels, hopefully the list of charities with ILP payment pointers for us to support will grow bigger. Just like influencers and content creators have been able to bring brands closer to consumers, Coil offers a unique opportunity to bring content creators closer to the causes they care about, giving them the possibility not only to raise awareness about them but also raise funds for them. Via a single action.

Dear Coil Subscriptor: By reading this post you have helped fund a home for a family in need via the One More Home XRP fundraiser that supports New Story Charity. Thank you for your support!
