it is STILL raining!
therefore, no laundry will be done today. perhaps tomorrow, but only after class. i will also attempt to make those appts that i need to make. Thursday i go to the hospital to see the dad. Friday, more class. yada yada.
also, i have been working on log.oleary.io and have made it into a text repository more or less. i am literally writing things straight into the HTML. lol! it is on Tumblr & i can still post but no one can see what i write unless they are viewing the blog through the Tumblr app, itself. the text repository is where i am listing the current projects i am working on (Newer System & (slowly) litebytes)
if you #write (do hashtags work on write.as?) then hmu on twitter (@olearyio) if interested in writing something for litebytes. idk if anyone will see this besides on read/write.as (& twitter), but, i am always looknig for a writer or writers for litebytes so i can have some content on there (about minimalism, of course) before the soft launch. can't focus on it much atm because classes are happening.
anyway, i am on my third cup of coffee & feel quite good.
be back in a bit!
is this syncing working?
just a test. probz is working, but...
ho hum boring day
if it weren't raining, i could do laundry. but it is so i can't.
in the meantime, i called dad & checked up on him and he was p tired bc i think i woke him up :/ He said the foot is doing better though, so, that's good :) They are waiting to see if he is going to go into the PT section of the hospital. Hope he gets in #fingerscrossed

busy busy busy
i had an appt today that went v well, also was reminded of the importance of making several other appts that have to be done either today or tomorrow (bc basically everything is going to be closing in two hours & my phone battery has 10% left). Also, the loan discharge paperwork will take a little longer than expected because i have to get MORE paperwork for that which involves another appt that has yet to be scheduled.
in the meantime, i took out the trash, am doing dishes, wrote down the times of other appts, am cleaning the kitchen & about to put $$$ on my laundry card so i can get that done tomorrow w/ the Easter cash that the momskee dropped off earlier in the day. i....think, that is all that needs be done. i will deposit the laundry money on the laundry card when i break change which i am going to do at BP gas station in just a little bit here.
Good times, good times. :)

Coffee is delish. TFP are fascinating. The day is beautiful.
i am having my....5th(?) cup of coffee, and i am on page 99 of TFP & am going to wrap it up v shortly here. The day is overcast, chilly, but nice enough, i would say.
March For Our Lives is a much more important thing happening in the world at this moment. But i am not anywhere near where a march is occuring, so i am not participating, sadly.

on a Direct-Democracy (DD)
i found more or less what i was looking for when picking up The Federalist Papers (TFP) in The Federalist Papers No. 10 (which is a James Madison section). He talks about a “pure democracy” & how “they were as short lived in their time as they were violent in their deaths” (not a verbatim quote, but v close). His arguments against a pure democracy (or as I, and many others call it, a Direct-Democracy) is that it can be corrupted by an “obnoxious few” and that it wouldn't allow the elected officials to think in a “grand” or “big” way. I can understand the warnings against the former but could care less about the latter. The goal of elected officials is not to think in a grand or big way. Anyway, imo i think that a DD could work perfectly only after we see the inherent flaws of what a Democratic Republic came to be and how it has failed (ex: America). More on this in the Newer System article i am writing about where TFP may or may not be referrenced.

i am experimenting w/ a new layout on the desktop
meaning, i maxxed-out the window size to take up the entire screen, un-decorated the window (removed the “cruft” or “chrome”), removed the text from the toolbar shortcuts (now just icons, minimalist, right?), removed the shortcut to the “apps” from the Chrome Web Store (which i never used anyway), and deleted some shortcuts in the toolbar altogether. So, now there is Twitter (obvs), write.as (this blog), and the e-course icon/shortcut. i guess i will keep it this way and leave the phone as-is, as that has ProtonMail + Gmail + other shit that i am trying to get off of.
Anyway, i am listening to Lana Del Rey on my phone and i am thoroughly(sp?) enjoying it :)
i was just reading about how Aziz Ansari basically left the internet, like, totally! Pretty cool if you ask me & also how he did it more or less nonchalantly. lol. Just....deleted the browser and social networks and e-mail off his phone, so, he doesn't see things from the internet now & just reads books and focuses on people instead. Sounds like a good idea. i have, in fact, done this for weeks at a time numerous times over the past two years but w/ college happening, i am not going to do it again anytime soon. I am, however, going to stop using e-mail. When i am at STLCC, i will check my e-mail to the extent that i have to (often), but that will be through the college's e-mail system and that will simply be for college and i will stop using Gmail + ProtonMail. Once i get my BlackBerry Q10 (v soon), i am going to sign-in w/ BlackBerry I.D. & not worry about e-mail anymore. All is good. But Twitter (& this blog) isn't going anywhere because i always feel the need to share what i am writing. i am good at writing. i like that about myself. i like sharing the content. lol.
anyway, be back in a bit!
this coffee is delicious
what a day! i am v happy about the turnout that occurred in Washington D.C. & NYC (& other cities) w/ March For Our Lives and though i feel that MIllennials are not a lost cause (they can act + organize when they put their minds to it), i am a little less hopeful that the Republicans in Washington D.C. are going to move away from the NRA in terms of relationship, lobby influence, etc. I know now how consciousless Marco Rubio (& politicans in general) can be. He represents FL. and it is blatantly and boldy standing behind the NRA and their money instead of the innocent lives of children whose lives were taken by gun violence. Shame on his miserable blackened soul. Thing is, he can make (the biggest?) difference and he is going to be voted out of office, for sure, so unless (& he might) he goes and works for the NRA afterwards (the most cowardly of career moves), then, where does he benefit in all of this? The oligarchy in this country is sickening.
I am reminded of the scene in Lions For Lambs where Robert Redford's character says to Andrew Garfield's character when discussing when to take political action, “Rome is burning, son!” Our empire is most certainly burning and not only is there nothing i can do about it, but there is nothing i want to do about it. Our would will not, in fact, know peace so long as there is an empire.

oh yes i am still awake
i also just finished a cup of coffee/espresso, as well.
i am going to work on Newer System a bit later, i think. i am thinking that i am going to submit it to Longreads when it is all finished, but it is an ongoing project right now. yada yada
anyway, idk what time i am going to visit dad tomorrow at the hospital but i am going to guess that it is going to be in the morning. that is when i usually go up there.
as for yesterday (that ended two hours ago), i didn't get any reading done (book-wise) bc i was distracted by the WWW. That is one of the reasons i hate the internet. it is incredibly distracting. but on the other hand, i did get some longreads in FROM the internet, so it is not all bad.
i am one third done w/ the coursework for the certificate. Yay! Onto Lesson 5 on Wednesday. this Lesson we are getting into statistics & records. Nice.
on another note: another thing i am doing tomorrow is filling out the loan forgiveness paperwork and mailing that off. I truly hope they can discharge the $900 (which is all i owe, but still...). I also hope that the Spring 2018 semester is going to happen at STLCC. If not, i am going to enroll in the Poynter Institute's “ACES Certificate in Editing” program. ACES stands for American Copy Editor Society and the program only costs $150 to sign up and the courses are more or less free (or $150, however you wanna look at it). I think it would look good on my LinkedIn + i want to learn as much as i can about editing as i have many things to edit (ebook, Newer System longform, etc.). The real goal is the AA in Media Comm though because that is genuinely useful. I authentically just want the bragging rights, tbh. If someone asks if i have a “college education” i just wanna say “yea” and move on. in my eyes no one truly has a “college education” until they are a degree-holder. silly, i know, but that is how i view it. i have talked in exquisite detail w/ my therapist about why i want a college degree and the reasons i really value one and i doubt any of them are truly healthy. but i guess the most sane reason for actually obtaining an AA is to “get my foot in the door” at a publication (though i am proactively building a portfolio right now which is all ye need for said “foot in the door”). So, it comes back to simply bragging rights. And to give myself something relevant to do for a couple years. lol. i really have no tangible reason other than to kill time in a good way.
but anyway, all of that will come soon enough. in the meantime, other stuffskee. be back in a bit!
