A Much Smaller Internet

I saw some shit on The Verge (a loooong time ago) about TAILS OS and how it routes everything through Tor and is amnesic (idk if I am spelling that right) and how it (sites accessible through Tor) makes the Internet a “much smaller Internet” because of the fact that Tor cannot access a lot of “Clear Web” websites and whatnot. But in my experience – for right now – I am using a much smaller internet because I do not visit websites (ever) or blogs (ever) or click on other people's links (ever (how could I? I don't use #socialmedia anymore)) and I only once in a blue moon visit Medium or Pocket or any shit like that. So if not for classes, I could basically get by w/ using TAILS OS for...everything. I mean I have the Tor browser on here so I could route the traffic for this #blog through the onion router if I liked, but there is simply no point in that. But if I did go to TAILS, I would have no problem using this blogging platform w/ it. And that's all I need right?

fuck that

not going down that road

#socialmedia addiction is a real thing and I am over it

I don't like the #media at ALL, and I am never going to be on social media where people bitch and troll and thirst for attention and validation for hours of their day. Pathetic.

If you're here from a social network (which one, I don't know because I am not sharing this post nor future posts with social media accounts): hello. Glad you're here. I don't like social media but will not discriminate against other for wasting their time. That sounds sarcastic, but seriously – everyone uses social media, so I won't bother giving a fuck if you do, too.

Many people like jumping off the social networking bridge these days, but that doesn't mean I have to be one of them.

Blogging has always, Always, ALWAYS been my jam and I have always done more of it than anything else since I “returned” to the Internet in 2006 after several years away from it. This is all.

The Internet, itself, isn't bad. I take online courses here. I am earning a certificate from #EdX (in programming no less!) from here. I will be doing all my STLCC courses here. I share thoughts from here. If the Internet isn't a tool to improve myself in one way or another, then there is truly no use for it.

I remember back in the mid-90s when people would dream about what the internet could be. It could help us be more productive. It could help us navigate the world around us. It could make us better as a civilization if we could democratize it's usage and make it one, beautiful, egalitarian service that was accessible by anyone. From anywhere. At any time.

Instead, it is pure division, distraction, and hinderance on our progression as a society. People addictively tap, scroll, and wither-away their time and energy on social media. People stopped living and started to try to LOOK like they were living on the WWW. It's corny and crass to quote “The Network” in a post like this but for fucks sake, “You people are the real thing, We are the illusion!”

It's sad and terrible to see what the information superhighway has done to the majority of us. Rarely is it a tool. Rarely do we use it to navigate the world around us. Rarely do we use it to make the world better – either for those people around us or for the Earth's ecosystem itself.

We failed. It failed. We don't deserve it, and we can be better without it.

That's all.
