Roscoe's Quick Notes

my micro-blog

I pray every morning, too.

A friend on Free Atlantis greeted me this morning with a short comment about her morning prayer, and I told her I'd post her back with a comment on my morning prayer routine.

The short reply is that every morning when I roll out from under the covers, as soon as my feet hit the floor I pray the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel, the short exorcism prayer.

Almost always, as my morning develops, I'll pray The Angelus and five Decades of the Holy Rosary. before Noon. Then at Noon it'll be time for The Angelus again. These, and my other prayers throughout the day are logged daily at my Roscoe's Story blog.

At night, after I've finished the Hour of Compline, with all its prayers, hymns, scripture readings, etc. and the assigned prayers of the Association of the Auxilium Christianorum, and whatever leisure reading I do, it's time to put head to pillow.. Closing my eyes, I slowly and silently pray an Our Father, 3 Hail Mary's, and one Glory Be, repeated as needed before drifting off to sleep. (That's my version of counting sheep. Heh.)

1st note on my new Standard Note app.

I'm looking forward to using this app regularly, but it will take some time to work it into my ecosystem. Eventually it will replace Google Keep. But that will probably be months down the road.

December 24th ~ Christmas Eve

O GOD, Who dost gladden us year by year with the expectation of our redemption, grant that we, who now with joy receive Thine only begotten Son as our Redeemer, may behold Him also without fear, when He cometh as our judge, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Who with Thee liveth and reigneth in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.

Amen.

Most of my Friday has been spent waiting. This being the Advent Season, that seems appropriate. One thing I was waiting for was the delivery of a case of wine, part of the Christmas present from my daughter. The delivery company said it was on the truck on its way to me and I should expect it any time between 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM. So I waited, and waited... finally at nearly 7:00 PM my wine was delivered.

Thanks to all who wished me well re: my apt. with Retina Specialist this morning. The appointment did indeed go well.

It included the most intense eye exam I've ever had. Two different dilations of both eyes. The second he called a “full bath'” dilation of both eyes; and he said, “Now this may be uncomfortable at times.” And he wasn't kidding!

Anyway, after it was all over he told me, “You're a very healthy man.” (My walking stick was leaning against the wall in a corner of that exam room; can't walk safely without it. Heh.) He considered me “low risk” regarding my upcoming cataract surgeries. And he said there's no reason for him to attend them.

He explained the reason a Retina specialist is called to assist the eye surgeon is when the Retina wall is so thin it may tear or is already tearing and he's needed to patch up the tearing with a laser. There's only very slight thinning at the back wall of my Retina, and it's not enough to worry about.

But he did want to see me again in 6 mos. so we set an appointment for June 2024.

And the adventure continues...

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday. Here we are, one day closer to the weekend.

At an early morning appointment with a Retina specialist today I expect to have my eyes dilated. Consequently, my time reading and posting on the Internet will be limited until later today or maybe tomorrow.

I'm not really looking forward to tomorrow morning. I've been having difficulty contacting the Retina Dr. my eye Surgeon wants to look at my eyes. Hope the early morning appointment goes well.

Thought for today from Archbishop Lefebvre :

“The sanctifying grace of Jesus is such a unique and abundant source of salvation that it is rightly called by a name proper to our Lord: Gratia capitis, the grace of the leader or of the head – making perfectly clear at the same time that in all salutary action and in all action which concerns the spiritual good, everything ultimately comes from and returns to Jesus Christ alone, the Son of God incarnate.

“There is no salvation outside our Lord” (cf. Acts 4:12). All those who work for the salvation of souls have to base their activity on this principle of the capital grace of our Lord. A thing done with no relation directly or indirectly to our Lord is vain and useless for salvation.”
