Spent an hour and a half pushing the lawnmower around the back yard in the late morning / early afternoon hours of today, finishing a chore started several days ago. With a certain sense of accomplishment I stumbled / shuffled my way through the rest of the day.

Few things pick up my morning like winning a chess game. The graphic above shows the position of pieces at the end of a correspondence chess game I won today on the 26th move as my Queen, protected by her Bishop, checkmates the White King.

A quietly productive Monday in the Roscoe-verse, this. Designated chores of the day were done without incident: weekly laundry was done, moved in all pending CC games, kept up with my daily prayer regimen, dieted. Followed news reports from various sources, spent time listening to relaxing music and quietly reading. No big problems. As Mondays go, this has been a good one.

I'm blaming the Oak Pollen in the air. The wife has been sneezing a lot these last several days, and she and I have been dealing with headaches and brain fog, too. And it's not just us. Local weather reports have been reading like horror stories, explaining why so many of us are “sick.” The only good thing about it: we know it won't last forever.

Today's chess diagram shows the final board of a correspondence chess game I won earlier this afternoon. My Queen on g4 is the piece checkmating the White King. She is being protected by the f5 pawn. The King's only flight square to get away from my Queen is h2, but that square is being covered by my Rook at h5.

Sunny and 86 degrees, perfect weather for doing a bit of yard work. So that's what I've been doing: mowed about half the back yard and did a bit of trim back there. The rest can wait for tomorrow, or whenever.

Spent an incredibly uncomfortable time early this afternoon, supposedly getting my ears cleaned out at my doctor's office. The cleaning didn't take. After the girl spent much time working on both ears, neither one was acceptably cleaned, ear wax she couldn't get out was packed in deep in both ear canals. She told me their office would give me a referral to an ear specialist who has equipment they don't. Waiting on that referral ...

A Queen-Knight Combination Checkmate with a different look. I won this CC game yesterday playing the Black pieces by checkmating the very slippery White King that I had to chase all over the board. I had to promote one of my pawns to a 2nd Queen before I could trap him.

This Auburn / Florida basketball game has been exciting to watch! If the Duke / Houston game which comes up next is this exciting and well played, I may stay up past my bedtime tonight to see it through to the end.
