Roscoe's Quick Notes

qnmay2023

Rainy days continue here in San Antonio, and even heavier rain is forecast for the weekend. 5 to 7 inches Fri. through Sun., the weatherman says. Not that I feel much like going out and doing anything anyway.

Slow recovery from my fall last Sunday continues. The sharper pain has mostly faded, except in my lower back and hips when I try to move inappropriately. Most noticeable today has been a general lethargic, sluggishness that's been with me all day. Not fun.

Maybe tomorrow will be better. Let's hope.

The healing of my injuries from yesterday is proceeding according to God's plan. Today I'm in lass pain than yesterday. The Nurse yesterday said I'd be sore for a few days, but the Doctor said to give it a few weeks. And he said if the lower back and shoulder problems continue beyond that, then I should consider seeing an arthritis specialist.

Given that I'm 74 y/o and diabetic, I'm not expecting things to move too quickly.

So my Sunday was unexpectedly eventful.

Long story short, I slipped and fell on rain slicked steps, bashed my head against the concrete, and caused undue worry to family and friends. Luckily I was in the company of Brother Knights, there was helpful police presence right there, and one police lady with EMT training who cleaned up and bandaged my cut.

And yes, Sylvia drove me to the hospital where got checked out by nurses, technicians and a doctor

I'm back home now with a fresh tetanus shot, a head wrap to cover the scrape on the back of my head until it scabs over, and a sling for my left arm until the shoulder soreness eases up.

Cat scan and x-rays showed no broken bones. The doctor said it may take a few weeks before I'm 100% again. And he told me to take Tylenol or ibuprofen for the soreness. if I start experiencing dizziness, bad headaches, or nausea within the next few days to come right in to the ER. Standard concussion protocol I suppose.

So no permanent damage done, and it's just a matter of waiting for things to heal up.

The first of my three long, hard days is now in the books. All went well, but I'm more tired than I ever want to be. And tomorrow starts very early for a Sunday and will be long through the morning and early afternoon. At least. And that will be day number 2 of my 3 hard ones in a row. Hoping now for a good night's sleep to get ready for it.

Woke slowly this morning after eating and getting to bed much later than usual last night. By mid-afternoon I'm satisfied with the day's productivity. Walked a mile in the neighborhood, pulled cash from an ATM to be prepared for Saturday afternoon's Bingo, and posted a KofC Turnout notice to my Assembly's Google Group. And I grabbed a healthy nap. Any productivity I manage during the remainder of this Thursday will be gravy on top of what's already been accomplished.

Very early this morning, before the Sun was fully up, I placed political signage in my front yard. Yes, I may need to reseed the lawn.

Wow! One full day, this Tuesday has been! An hour and a half of yard work this morning, (mowed and trimmed the front yard,, finally), voting in San Antonio's early election this afternoon, then working with my car insurance agent to install a phone app and a device in our new car, all the while fielding voice calls, texts, and email messages from various KofC Officers and my Parish Rectory.

Yes, I'm tired.

Glad I was productive earlier today, because late afternoon finds my mind more than a little scattered. I don't anticipate needing much focus through the rest of the day. Good thing.
