So I just cruised the Syllabi for CS50x and it seems that the capstone course is, or final project, is where I actually partake in making a piece of software, myself that “solves a problem in my community, or the world, and that will long outlive the course”. That sounds p damn exciting and I am most certainly going to take that challenge head-on.
It seems very consistent w/ the 2018 goals I just laid out for myself + matches up nicely w/ the #100DaysOfCode thing because I am def going to be doing a lot of it when I am making the final project.
#GoodTimesAhead
A Warm Rain Is Welcome
I feel fantastic (as I usually do).
I would thoroughly enjoy a Scratch 2 project to kill time w/ tonight, but the best I can do is think of the concept of the game I am going to build. In fact, fuck that. All of it will be built tomorrow. Concept brainstorming and all. I am too relaxed this eve to bother w/ it. Besides, I have been at it for three days w/ CS50x and I want at least 24 hrs off from the Week 0 coursework. #deserved.
I think the languages we are covering in the course are: C, Java, Ruby, and something else. I don't even remember at this point. It is all in the syllabi but I am not going to look that up right now. One step at a time and if I am diligent, I will learn all of it.
I was super-inspired by the Medium article about the dude who took that exact course (CS50x) and decided to quit his job doing...whatever, and did a bunch of smallish projects during/after CS50x, did #100DaysOfCode, contributed to open-source stuff, used his real name on GitHub, did a bunch of other cool shit and then went into job openings with what he had built-up as far as digital assets. I am basically doing the same thing, (or wish to), but if/when STLCC comes into the mix, the CS course gets wrapped up w/ what I have left of it, then the #coding, #programming, yada yada stays on as a side-project and I focus all my time/energy/resources towards traditional community college.I can/will do both, but an AA or AAS, whichever one I go into are much higher on the list of priorities than any other side-project. Hence why they are side projects! Haha!
I like the shit I am learning along the way though. CS is a fucking amazing subject and I think that everyone should at least learn the basics if they have the opportunity to. Even #RPi machines have an offline version of Scratch 2 (soon Scratch 3!) built into Raspbian #OS. And that is a $35 PC! I say: Go for it!
Anyway, tomorrow is gonna be great.
holy shit.
I was expecting an “in good shape” MBA when this thing arrived and this machine is f.l.a.w.l.e.s.s.! #Damn! It has better specs than the last MBA I had in 2015 and this has a backlit keyboard! I didn't even see that on the spec run-down.
Anyway, I am spending a good amount of time on mastodon.social so if you want to reach out to me, I am on there (@tomskee). I also have a litebytes acct on there because I have given up the Twitterverse (even though the lb twitter acct remains on there until I...idk. Just want people to be redirected to Mastodon is all.
now that I have a GOOD machine, I can finally go all-in w/ #100DaysOfCode + the #EdX course I wanna take. But the 1st priority is to get into STLCC. I know I have said all this before but it is worth repeating because this is what I am concerning myself with the most these recent days.
Now to clean up the Mac a bit :)
MBA arrives tomorrow. I also am not going to be home most of tomorrow. Have #therapy + a lot of other things. Will be doing a LOT of #writing when it arrives. Will also be journaling more in a good #offline writing app. I will also import all of the documents that I have on the flash drive onto the MBA (resume, writing samples, e-books (that I wrote), etc.).
The loan discharge paperwork has been sent off and it is still under-review. If it get approved, great! I will make the arrangements at STLCC for a Fall 2018 semester. And I am expecting it to be approved, BUT, the Fall 2018 semester may be out of reach as far as deadlines go. If this happens...
...I will enroll in the EdX Intro To CS course (offered for free) through HarvardX (no, it's not the same as attending Harvard (unfortunately)). After that, #100DaysOfCode will commence. I must learn to code. One way or the other. I have the best app idea and want to build it independently. With nobody else working on it. This is a good idea, I think. It would be impossible for me to make the time to do this if I were to be enrolled at STLCC. College is the preference/priority. But I have a damn fine backup plan.
So this is where I stand right now.
