Roscoe's Quick Notes

my micro-blog

Three things:

My main Monday chore has been completed: doing my weekly laundry. It doesn't HAVE TO be done on a Monday. I can and have when things get in the way let that chore slide over a day or two (or more) without any real inconvenience, but my weeks always work better when I get it done on Monday.

This afternoon several new photos from my daughter appear on my Alexa Show device. She told me last week they'd be coming, but we didn't know exactly when. Seeing all those happy, smiling faces from family over a thousand miles away was a delightful midday pick-me-up.

And tonight I'll be listening to my Texas Rangers playing the Oakland Athletics. I'm following the Rangers Pregame Show now. First pitch is just a few minutes away. Go Rangers!

And the adventure continues.

Last night I listened to the Rangers / Tigers MLB Game and to my happy surprise, my Texas Rangers won. I fell asleep shortly after and proceeded to have one of the best sleeps I've had in a while. And I woke in good spirits and with maybe a bit more energy than I usually have.

So... tonight the Rangers and Tigers are playing again, and I'm tuned into Texas Rangers Radio for the game. And I'm hoping for a repeat of last night's performance. GO RANGERS!

The adventure continues.

Two highlights of this Saturday in the Roscoe-verse:

Taking the wife out to lunch at Lin's, in Selma, which has become one of our favorite places.

And listening to my Texas Rangers vs the Detroit Tigers on Texas Rangers Radio. First pitch is 15 minutes away. Go Rangers!

One of the most boring Fridays here winds down.

But boring can be a good thing, at least I've nothing noteworthy to complain about. Well, except for one leaky bottle in a case of 40 water bottles that I received this morning. But it was a bottle on an outside corner of the case that spit at me as I was carrying it across the room to put away. After cutting the plastic binding around the bottles I removed it and set it aside. With a few paper towels I cleaned up the few drops of water from the floor. And that's been the extent of excitement in the Roscoe-verse today. HA!

And the adventure continues.

Saving time, saving column space.

Today I made a major improvement over at Roscoe's Story, my brother blog to this one. An improvement that will save me time and will make it easier for visitors to read.

I fill my days with maybe more prayers and devotions than many other old boys. Being mostly home bound with my arthritis, there's not a whole lot more I can do that is both constructive and edifying.

I have a daughter and a sister back home in Indiana, both of whom are curious about what I'm doing down here in Texas. How I'm taking care of myself. How I spend my time, etc. And I'm NOT a telephone person. Never have been. Ask anybody.

So to keep them informed, years ago I started my Roscoe's Story blog, listing and posting every day how I spend my time, etc.

Anyway, rather than list each individual prayer and the specific time I pray it every day, I now have a summary page that explains my prayer regimen. Linking to that summary every day will save me lots of time, and it will make for a much less cluttered blog page than has previously been the case.

Another quiet day in the Roscoe-verse winds down.

I was able to get a little yard work done this morning. We have a flower bed that runs across the full front of our house. At either end of that flower bed are two big bushes that can transform into hideous monsters if left unattended for too long. This morning I attended to both of them, pruning quite a bit of foliage. They look much more civilized now. And I was able escape into the house, under the a/c before the worst heat of the day came upon us.

The afternoon and evening found relaxing music playing in the background as I lightly followed news reports or quietly read through my prayers and devotions, etc., while waiting for tonight's Indiana Fever WNBA Game. And that game is now underway as I sit here at the keyboard. Midway through the 1st Quarter the score finds the New York Liberty leading my Indiana Fever 23 to 16.

And the adventure continues.

What do I care about yesterday’s Zoom, A grid of faces in a silent room— Muted thoughts and pixelated grace, A thousand words behind each face.

The echo lag of half-meant cheer, A wave, a nod, a frozen leer— “You're on mute,” again we cried, While dreams and coffee pots slowly died.

The moment passed in scheduled haze, Lost between two meeting days. I closed the tab with no regret— What do I care? I forget.

A very quiet Monday in the Roscoe-verse winds down.

My main Monday chore, doing my weekly laundry, was handled this morning: two loads of laundry washed, dried, and put away before Noon.

The afternoon found me making a few loan payments, one of them online and two by phone.

Most of the rest of this day was spent listening to relaxing music, working on my chess games and quietly reading my regular prayers and devotionals, etc.

And the adventure continues.

Recovery Day number three. That pretty much defines this Sunday in the Roscoe-verse.

The last really physical thing I've done was mowing the front yard: that three-hour job on Thursday morning. Three days ago.

Despite a good (for me) sleep last night, I dozed off twice during the day today. The first time was while following news reports on the Internet, and the second time was while listening to the Texas Rangers / Houston Astros MLB Game. Which I'm very glad my Rangers won, by the way.

Significant arthritis pain today was mainly in my hands and shoulders: that from pushing my lawnmower around the yard Thursday. This was also a very low-energy day, which manifested itself in the two naps mentioned above.

All that having been said, I don't FEEL bad. None of today's symptoms were really unexpected.

After a good night's sleep tonight, I look forward to tackling my Monday chores tomorrow, and moving into the upcoming week confidently.

And the adventure continues.

Ready for the special “brush collection day” on Monday.

my little brush pile

There is one big tree in my front yard and several in the back. I try to keep up with fallen branches as they happen, cutting them into smaller pieces and stuffing them into the big green organics bin for weekly collection by the city. San Antonio schedules a yearly special “brush collection day” where they collect piles of branches too large to fit into the plastic bins that get collected weekly.

Pictured above is my little brush pile for this year's special collection.
