Roscoe's Quick Notes

my micro-blog

I'm staying up past my bedtime to catch tonight's Indiana Fever vs Los Angeles Sparks game. I know, I know, Caitlin Clark's not going to be playing. She's still out with the groin injury. But she's been doing shoot-arounds with her team. And rumor has it that she may play in one of the Fever's late August or early September games. So...

The adventure continues.

Actually, I think that's a good idea. Since his wife (who was my wife's best friend) passed away about ten years ago, and since his adult children have all moved out and are living lives of their own, he says he's tired of living in his house all by himself.

Of course him living in the Philippines means our move will be a bit more complicated than if he lived across town or in a nearby state. So... definitely not this year, and probably not next year. But after that...?

The adventure continues.

After the 1st full inning of play, my Texas Rangers are leading the Los Angeles Angels 4 to 1. This SHOULD BE a nice relaxing game to listen to before putting head to pillow. At least, that's the plan.

Tomorrow the Rangers don't play as they travel out to the West Coast for late games on Friday and Saturday nights. Both those games are scheduled to start at 9:00 PM; I no longer even try to stay awake for games that start that late.

A 3-run homer just now in the bottom of the 2nd inning put my Rangers up 7-1. Sweet.

The adventure continues.

It's good to hear the Indiana Fever playing well, even with Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, and others out injured, and leading the Seattle Storm early in the 2nd Quarter.

It's also good to look over at those shelves against to the wall and NOT see the stacks of unsorted paperwork that have been haunting me for far too long. This afternoon found me organizing that mess, throwing away much, and filing the rest appropriately.

And the adventure continues.

To be added to my daily prayer regimen for the next 9 days, Aug 25 – Sept 2. . Glorious Pope of the Eucharist, St. Pius X, thou didst seek to “restore all things in Christ.” Obtain for me a true love of Jesus so that I may only live for Him. Help me to acquire a lively fervor and a sincere will to strive for sanctity of life, and that I may avail myself of the riches of the Holy Eucharist, which is sacrifice and sacrament. By thy love for Mary, Mother and Queen, inflame my heart with a tender devotion to her. . Blessed model of the priesthood, obtain for us holy and dedicated priests and increase vocations to the priesthood and religious life. . Dispel confusion, hatred and anxiety. Incline our hearts to peace so that all nations will place themselves under the reign of Christ the King. Amen . St. Pius X, pray for me. . Back from my hiatus.

My last “Quick Notes” post was 5 days ago when I commented on Caitlin Clark's self-imposed 200-day hiatus from Pro Basketball. Good for her, I thought. And now, good for me. heh.

Not much new in the Roscoe-Verse during my 5-day hiatus. The right arm and shoulder injured when I fell on 25 July has probably “recovered” as much as it's ever going to. In terms of mobility and functionality it now matches the left shoulder. Of course I broke the left collarbone decades ago and never had it reset properly, so it's been “gimpy” ever since.

Listening now to the Texas Rangers leading the Cleveland Guardians 5 – 0 in the top of the 8th inning. After this game I'll be tuning in the Indiana Fever playing the Minnesota Lynx in a WNBA game.

And that's about all I've got for this Sunday.

Caitlin Clark went on a self-imposed hiatus from basketball today.

She decided, with professional advice, that she needed a good rest to fully recover from the physical injuries she's received over this year while playing Point Guard for the Indiana Fever of the WNBA. She expects to return to Pro Basketball next April when the 2026 WNBA Season opens.

Last night's test sleep

... with the memory foam pillow was successful. I slept 8 hours, mostly peacefully. And mostly flat on my back, no tossing and turning, no scrunching around trying to find a comfortable position.

Tonight will be test sleep #2 with the memory foam pillow; and I'm looking forward to it.

The adventure continues.

It's the Bottom of the 5th

... and the score is TEX 1 – KC 4. And it's time for me to give that new memory foam pillow a test drive.

The adventure, it does continue.

To improve the quality of my nightly sleeps, I ordered a memory foam pillow for myself.

Amazon tells me to expect delivery tomorrow morning. I am SO looking forward to that!
