  • The Public Prosecutors Office for Labor wrote a recommendation letter for companies and public attorneys where it asks that conflicts over the vaccination of employees be avoided, but it ultimately settles in that, in order to preserve the health of coworkers, the employer can try to convince the employee to get the shot, and fire them if they refuse to get it.
  • A Justice Court ruled in favor of conservative #TerçaLivre channel #YouTube permanently suspended to be reinstated, or they will have to pay a fine for every day that they don't. Terça Livre was suspended as thousands of channels are, without YT making clear what part of a video broke which guideline. This is a great victory for free speech and it opens a precedent for #socialmedia to be finally regulated.
  • Congressman #DanielSilveira (plus 19 others) presented a law bill that prohibits #socialmedia platforms from censoring, shadowbanning, or outright banning posts and accounts whose content do not conflict with constitutional rights. This bill had been presented before, but the previous chair of the House of Representatives would not even put it to vote. Now, under the new chair, the hopes of seeing this law bill going for a vote is back, and Daniel and the others are asking for urgency. After the mass censoring of #Trump, allies, and supporters during his campaign and their eventual mass banning, they don't see why the same won't happen to Bolsonaro, allies, and supporters during this year's #elections. If this bill passes, it will (curiously and surprisingly) teach Americans, mainly #Republicans, a lesson, and #Trump, allies, and supporters will surely cheer.
  • Some people are recording others receiving the anti-#COVID19 vaccine without the nurses being aware, and some of them are seen not giving the shot. You can see the nurse inserting the needle, but they don't push the plunger. #coronavirus
  • #PauloGuedes, the secretary of the department of economy (called 'Ministry of Economy,' and him, 'minister'), said his hopes of having several economy bills passed rose after the election of the new chair of the #HouseofRepresentatives. The previous chair didn't even put the bills to vote.
  • #Bolsonaro, who is currently without a party, is considering joining '#Patriotas' (Patriots) in order to run this year for a second term. His preferred party is '#AliançapeloBrasil' (Alliance for Brazil), but it's still in the process of collecting signatures in order to complete its creation, and thus not ready to have its candidates run in time in this year's elections.
  • Billboards of #SãoPaulo Governor #Dória have been spotted in a city called #CampoGrande, State of #MatoGrosso. Two different billboard versions, one showing him wearing a mask, holding a syringe in one hand, the toothpaste-like box of the only vaccine he's been promoting, the #Chinese #CoronaVac (infamous for its 50-ish % efficacy rate), and the title, VACCINE FOR ALL. The other version shows him wearing a mask and waving a V, and it says, CONGRATULATIONS, DÓRIA. V OF VICTORY, V OF VACCINE, V OF 'VERDADE' (TRUTH). VACCINE FOR ALL. A video went viral for showing a woman driving by when she saw one of those, stopped, pulled her phone up and started recording, showing the billboard in the background while she demanded answers to why São Paulo's governor was being promoted in her state, and who could be funding it, but it was taken down by #YouTube, which claimed it broke their community guidelines. A congressman contacted YT Brasil demanding an explanation, since the video doesn't contain anything that can be considered defamatory, threatening, criminal, or illegal.

  • The mayor of #Mirandópolis, #ÉvertonSodaro, stood up against a team of health professionals last night who were trying to make sure no businesses would stay open after 8pm. They were following #SãoPaulo Governor #Dória's #lockdown measures orders. The mayor made a dramatic appeal for the team to think about the jobs and businesses that are being lost after almost a year of tough restrictions, pointed out he and they have kept receiving their salaries throughout the lockdown period while regular citizens have not, he said that he has constantly been receiving people at #CityHall asking when the restrictions were going to loosen, some showing desperation, bravely urged them not to carry out illegal orders, and said that Mirandópolis has a mayor. This city has about 30 thousand inhabitants and only two #COVID19 cases. #JoãoDória #coronavirus #virusfromchina #chinavirus #chinesevirus #ccpvirus

SÃO PAULO'S GOVERNOR DÓRIA VS JOURNALIST CONSTANTINO

This week, while on a radio and video morning show broadcast by #JovemPan, #RodrigoConstantino commented on and criticized #JoãoDória's strong but ineffective fight against #COVID19 infection and death rates, and also Dória's offensive comment on #Bauru's mayor #SullemRossim, because she was loosening the #lockdown measures and also because she went to meet directly with President #Bolsonaro and some of his ministers, in order to expose her city's critical financial situation due to the #pandemic, making the governor fume and call her a '(science) denier' and a 'vassala of the president.' Vassala means 'someone who's dependent on someone else.' It originally means the same as 'vassal,' and it still passes a negative (for today's standards) impression, because it's rarely used and thus not have undergone any practical change or softening of meaning, and it also sounds strong. This is a word that you simply don't hear in #Brazil in everyday talk and, worse, she's black. But, the #BlackLivesMatter and the #feminist movement... Guess what? Haven't said a word.

After #Constantino's comment and criticism, saying things like, “THE GOVERNOR'S STATEMENT IS ABJECT,” “A VASSAL MAY BE THE GOVERNOR HIMSELF, OF THE CHINESE REGIME,” “HE ONLY THINKS ABOUT (THE ELECTION OF) 2022, THAT'S WHY HE GOT SO IRRITATED (BY HER DECISION TO ESTABLISH A DIRECT COMMUNICATION WITH THE PRESIDENT),” “HE'S MAKING THE PANDEMIC ALL ABOUT POLITICS SINCE IT STARTED,” “HIS STATE HAS THE WORSE NUMBER OF COVID CASES IN BRAZIL (IN SPITE OF ADOPTING THE STRICTIEST MEASURES) [true], AND I ASK MYSELF HOW HE CAN HAVE SUCH A BRAZENLY ARROGANCE TO TRY TO TEACH THE REST OF THE COUNTRY (HOW TO DEAL WITH THE PANDEMIC).” This was not the first time Constantino comments on how Dória is running São Paulo, but it was last straw.

These quotes are the strongest parts of Constantino's criticism, which lasted only 70 seconds, but it was enough to make Governor #Dória call in during the same show asking the host to give him the right to respond and rebut Constantino, who was present. His call was unannounced and got everybody by surprise, and he asked for his right to respond and rebut on spot, which is very unusual, as the contact for a response and rebuttal is made in advance (so that the counterargument can be prepared) and, in most cases (especially when it involves high profile people), it's requested by their lawyers.

His call can be considered an exemplary study case about how basic leftist tactics of attack work, and how embarrassingly out-of-touch with the people a politician can be. Perhaps a #Marxism 101 class? And, not because this is anywhere a rare thing, leftists do this often, but because of who he is: The governor of the most powerful and rich state in Brazil, and Bolsonaro's biggest self-declared archenemy among all the governors. Read on below Dória's response and rebuttal (with comments and small pieces cut out for the sake of length).

NOTE: This line-by-line commenting was greatly inspired by a video posted by #PaulaMarisa on #YouTube.

“DEFENDING LIFE AND SCIENCE, AND REBUTTING CONSTANTINO, A (SCIENCE) DENIER, BOLSONARO'S IDEOLOGUE” [instead of rebutting Constantino, he starts by framing his character], “DEFENDER OF A HOMICIDAL GOV'T” [accusing the Bolsonaro administration of being homicidal is quite a serious thing to say, and it's further character framing, as if Constantino knew about a plot by the gov't to kill people; a conniver]. “BY THE WAY, THE SAME RODRIGO CONSTANTINO THAT DEFENDED A RAPIST ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND (BECAUSE OF THAT) WAS FIRED FROM JOVEM PAN” [this was a confusion caused by a misinterpretation and the fact that the network was too fast to react to the mounting outrage that built up on #Facebook and #Twitter, fueled by leftists, but the company later apologized to Constantino and re-hired him; you see, the governor totally ignored the fact that he was back to the same company and same show, showing disrespect for Jovem Pan, as if implying the company lacked judgement by hiring him back].”

“RODRIGO CONSTANTINO, #SÃOPAULO DEFENDS #SCIENCE, #HEALTH, AND #LIFE. THIS IS SOMETHING YOU AND #JAIRBOLSONARO NEVER DID. ON THE CONTRARY, YOU AND BOLSONARO ALWAYS SAID THIS WAS A LITTLE FLU, A LITTLE COLD” (Bolsonaro didn't express his own thoughts, but replicated what an until-recently-and-unanimously-respected and a venerated-by-the-left doctor called #DráuzioVarella said on video on social media). “TODAY, BRAZIL ACCOUNTS FOR MORE THAN 225,000 DEATHS DUE TO A PANDEMIC WHOSE EFFECT COULD HAVE BEEN MINIMIZED IF WE DIDN'T HAVE A GOV'T THAT DENIES (SCIENCE)” [the gov't's hands were partially tied from the beginning when the #SupremeCourt, #STF, ruled out that the decision about how to apply health prevention and care measures during the pandemic, including lockdown measures, would be the mayors' and governors' responsibility, not the State's], “AND JOURNALISTS, I MEAN, PSEUDO JOURNALISTS LIKE YOU” [calling a journalist a pseudo journalist before any rebuttal was made sounds like further character framing], “DEFENDING THE EARTH IS FLAT” [not everybody on the side of #conservatives, #rightwingers, and who is a Christian agrees on this, but many leftists call absolutely everyone who supports Bolsonaro a '#flatearther,' as if in one more attempt to frame one's character].”

“IT WAS HERE IN SP, RODRIGO CONSTANTINO, WHERE THE #VACCINE WAS MADE AVAILABLE. THE ONE WHICH YOU AND JAIR BOLSONARO REPEATEDLY MINIMIZED THE IMPORTANCE OF” [this vaccine, called #CoronaVac, was approved by the Brazilian health agency #ANVISA by a critical margin, it has several reservations, and is still not recommended for everybody to take; these things are never mentioned during press conferences in SP], “CALLING IT 'VACCINE FROM CHINA'” [Is it not? What's the problem here? It sounds as if he knew many people were growing suspicious of, critical of, and put off by the Chinese gov't, and Constantino and Bolsonaro, according to Dória, shouldn't be saying that it is Chinese in order to avoid scaring people], “BUT THIS IS THE VACCINE THAT WAS APPROVED BY ANVISA” [by the same time, Oxford's was as well], “A VACCINE THAT'S SAVING MILLIONS OF BRAZILIANS, BRAZILIANS WHO ARE IN THE FRONTLINE, WHO DO WHAT YOU DON'T DO, DOCTORS WHO HELP SAVE LIVES. SHOW HEALTH PROFESSIONALS THEIR DUE RESPECT” [there's no record of Constantino disrespecting health professionals, and the governor still hadn't started his rebuttal].

“SHOW RESPECT TO SCIENCE, TO THE FAMILIES OF 225,000 DEATHS, AND ALSO TO THE PEOPLE, TO THE AUTHORITIES, WHO ARE FIGHTING TO DEFEND LIFE AND PEOPLE. THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY [...]. BUT, LET ME REMIND YOU GUYS. IF RODRIGO CONSTANTINO RESPONDS AND REBUTS (AGAIN), I DEMAND THE SAME BE GRANTED TO ME.”

At this moment, Constantino, who was live, said, “YOU CAN STAY ON AIR, (MR) GOVERNOR. YOU CAN STAY ON AIR TO HEAR MY ANSWER. I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU FEEL HURT FOR ME PRESENTING FACTS, AND YOU COME AGAIN WITH THIS ATTEMPT TO MONOPOLIZE THE VIRTUES, THE SCIENCE [...].” Right there, the governor cuts him and keeps cutting him, never letting Constantino finish any single thought, and he repeated several times that Constantino defended a rapist, and he also repeated all the other things he said previously. Constantino did well, could still make some good points. Near the end, the governor went further and implied the network should fire Constantino again.

“SHAME ON YOU FOR WHAT YOU SAY EVERY MORNING ON JOVEM PAN. IT'S NOT UP TO ME TO JUDGE WHY JOVEM PAN REHIRED YOU. #THIAGOUBERRAICH [the show host], JOVEM PAN LISTENERS, AND JOVEM PAN MANAGEMENT,...” At this point, the host asks the governor, “DO YOU WANT TO CONCLUDE, PLEASE, FOR US TO FINISH?,” but Dória presses on. “IT'S A SHAME THAT WE HAVE THIS KIND OF DEBATE ON JOVEM PAN, THIAGO, THAT'S A SHAME. IT'S A SHAME THAT JOVEM PAN, AFTER SO MANY YEARS OF TRADITION IN JOURNALISM, HAS IN ITS TEAM OF COMMENTATORS SUCH A DISASTROUS PERSON LIKE RODRIGO CONSTANTINO. DEFENDER OF 'BOLSONARISM,' DEFENDER OF AN EXTREME RIGHTWING IDEOLOGY, (if he's a defender of that, he's conniving and/or he is a rightwing extremist; character framing again; no rebuttal). IT'S A SHAME THAT JOVEM PAN GIVES SUCH A PERSON ANY SPACE [again, implying Jovem Pan had bad judgement when they rehired Constantino after firing him unfairly). I WANT TO EXPRESS, AS A JOVEM PAN LISTENER, AS A CITIZEN, AND AS A DEMOCRAT [as if #Democrats had a good reputation], MY PROTEST.” Thiago interrupts, curtly, “DO YOU WANT TO HANG UP, (MR) GOVERNOR? WE APPRECIATE IT.” Dória, “YES. THANK YOU.”

Constantino, as a commentator, not only for Jovem Pan but also other media, exposed this event, and many others did as well. Only the original video with the interaction reached a million views in three days. The governor apparently gave up on pushing this further, maybe due to the backlash and perhaps for realizing how insane (and quite badly calculated, we might add) his attitude was.

It's worth remembering that Dória was elected because of Bolsonaro. He strongly campaigned for and supported the president, showing up in rallies with him, defending the same policies in these rallies, and on radios, on TVs, and on social media, and even produced, wore, and distributed apparel containing the saying “BolsoDória.”

Rodrigo Constantino promised to sue Dória for saying he defended a rapist. Now, will the Bolsonaro administration sue Dória for the accusation that he's been using the State machine to intentionally let people die? We aren't talking about a simple citizen, but a very high profile politician who has an army of opposition (fake) news media to amplify his out-of-touch and authoritarian-like rhetoric.

What could Dória possibly be thinking when he asked for Constantino's head on air when he was rehired and he has built a good reputation (and in country that's still not a dictatorship)? #XiJinping certainly didn't like Dória's lack of basic research, planning, and preparation.

  • Truckers in #SãoPaulo rallied in protest against the state's governor #JoãoDória. It was a big one; 500 trucks. He has been the most vocal pro-lockdown governor and, apart from his decree to a new lockdown time, which has enraged part of the population and many mayors, leading to protests and some disobedience, he's raising the #ICMS tax ('tax over transactions of goods and services').

The #STF (Brazilian #SupremeCourt) ruled that states can buy vaccines without the approval of the #ANVISA ('Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária,' or National Health Regulatory Agency), which is the Department of Health's branch responsible for giving the approval of safe use of any product or service that's related to health, produced in #Brazil or imported. Under this rule, the approval of a vaccine by the health agency of the country of origin will be enough.

Among the governors in favor of bypassing the gov't's agency, #SãoPaulo's Governor #JoãoDória has been the most vocal, prompting President #Bolsonaro to repeatedly say that no vaccination will be sold in Brazil without ANVISA's approval. The decision of the STF is another humiliation for Bolsonaro if he doesn't have any card under his sleeve.

It's important to note that not a single vaccine company from any country has ever asked ANVISA for authorization so far, which is suspicious.

And today the STF voted unanimously in favor of compulsory vaccination. One more humiliation for the president (again, if he doesn't have any card unde his sleeve) who publicly and repeatedly said that no Brazilian would be forced to take the vaccine.

Some judges said that nobody will be forced to take it if it means people going through any kind of embarrassment or humiliation, but there's a caveat. Private and public institutions and businesses will be allowed to demand that their employees, clients, and customers prove that they are vaccinated. For instance, an airline can demand passengers to show this proof in order to board the plane or buy a ticket, and a school can demand it in order to accept an enrollment.

#SãoPaulo Governor #JoãoDória presses for the mandatory vaccination from #China besides #Bolsonaro repeatedly emphasizing that the gov't will not allow for a mandatory vaccine, citing China's and the #OMS' poor and suspicious handling of the #pandemic, the insuficiently tested and doubtful vaccine, and also citing Brazilian laws to justify his administration's position.

During an interview for #CNN yesterday, #Dória said, “We're going to wait 48 hours. If the gov't doesn't back down until Friday and doesn't do what what it has to do, support the vaccination, including the one from #Butantan [provided by China], we know what actions can be taken, either by São Paulo's or other governors, who are saddened and feeling frustrated.”

Dória is counting on other leftist governors and also on mayors, congresspeople, and senators; and also some political parties; to use the Article 196 of the #Constitution in order to push for an impeachment proceeding (one more Bolsonaro would face). The Article says:

“Health is a right for all citizens and it's a State duty to provide it, making sure there are social and economic policies aiming to reduced diseases and other severe illnesses, and to allow every citizen to have universal and equal access to prevention, protection, and recovery actions and services.”

Fortunately, the gov't has a good deal of evidence, studies, and numbers, from #Brazil itself and from other countries, to back up the position for not going for a mandatory vaccination. The gov't, at least based on what we've seen on social media, also counts with the support from the population. The group supporting a mandatory vaccination, as it seems for now, can mostly count on the dishonesty of judges and congresspeople and senators to acheive what they wish.

#SãoPaulo's Governor #JoãoDória continues to move on with his antagonism toward the #Bolsonaro administration. During a press conference, #Dória said, “São Paulo is going to be vaccinated. I already made sure that the 45 million Brazilians will be vaccinated, and in São Paulo the vaccination will be mandatory, unless a citizen has a prescription from a doctor ordering otherwise. It's not conceivable that, in a pandemic, some be vaccinated and others not.”

This pandemic has brought perhaps the highest level of disagreeableness in modern history. Some of the reasons: 👉 While the numbers of infected and deaths of #COVID19 rose, the numbers of other diseases and sicknesses dropped proportionally; 👉 #China never allowed other nations to go there to help investigate the spread; 👉 The #WHO took long to make some obvious recommendations and changed others a couple of times, some of them being conflicting; 👉 A mask cannot totally keep the virus from spreading and, when used for a long period of time, can damage one's own health by increasing the inhale of material intended to be exhaled from the body; 👉 Small agglomerations were prohibited, with law-abiding citizens being sent to jail and treated rudely or violently, while police did nothing proportionally strong to end violent protests; 👉 The public transportation was partially interrupted, resulting in fewer buses and trains to get more crowded; 👉 The vaccination hasn't gone under the usual time of testing to be considered safe for a virus that is not even well understood.

On #Instagram, Bolsonaro reacted to #Dória's statement by posting about a law from this year that says that a vaccination to fight the #Chinesevirus could be mandatory, but also posted about a law from 1975 that says that the vaccination program is of the Department of Health's responsability, and that the local governments can only decide for a mandatory vaccination after a meeting with the DoH.

He finished by writing, “Besides the fact that the law says that the public administration can ask for a mandatory vaccination, my administration doesn't see the need for it neither will recommend the local governments to do so.”

“The DoH will offer a vaccination in a safe way and at the right moment, after being approved by the #ANVISA (our #FDA), but without demanding it to be taken mandatorily.”

#RiodeJaneiro's and #SãoPaulo's governors, #Witzel and #Dória, respectively, are being investigated in what has been popularly called #Covidão ('Big Covid').

Both of them were great #Bolsonaro supporters, but once Bolsonaro was elected, they turned their backs on him. After the pandemic started, their administrations have been accused of frauds and corruption schemes.

Dória, for instance, paid 45 million dollars ahead of time for a Chinese company to make 3,000 ventilators, but only 50 were delivered. Dória tried to solve the problem, renegotiating the contract, and the Chinese company promised to delived over 1,000 units quickly, but only 300 were, with the cost per unit increasing to around U$100,000 per unit. The contract was reviewed by investigators and it was found that there was no conditions for break of contract by the Chinese company. The contract was eventually terminated.

This scandal is at the state level, but there are scandals at city levels, including the City of São Paulo.

In Rio, the investigation is more advanced, and Witzel is temporarily away from his position as governor. The fraud and corruption scandals involving Witzel also involves several private businesses and religious institutions.

The government achieved a great result from the bidding process for concessions and private investments in #PortofSantos in #SãoPaulo. The total is about 900 million reals, showing how investors and the private sector are optimistic about the work done by the #Bolsonaro administration, even during a moment the government's revenue is low and has had to increase its spending due to the pandemic.
