The Warcults

Warcults are bands of scavenging warriors who descend on locations destroyed by fallen gods to uncover sacred relics to fuel their foul machinations. There are four Warcults in the game each with their own endgames.

The Black Maw

Deep within the black pit at the centre of the Blasted Forest squirms an impossible creature from beyond the cosmos. Landing a century ago on the back of a comet, the writhing alien lay inert for decades until a band of outlaws happened upon the impact crater. It awoke, its many pus-coloured eyes blinking, its tendrils writhing wetly in the darkness. Weakly it reached out with its ancient mind to their leader, Magnus Cragg, sending images of the vast cosmos directly into his brain. Magnus saw in this creature a god who wanted to help his desperate brothers and sisters. But the being, whose name was Ikleth, required sustenance. Animal and human sacrifices only worked to a point and while Ikleth began to grow stronger it needed more to help it become more powerful. Magnus and his outlaws, under their new moniker The Black Maw knew that the relics left behind after the Cataclysm could be plenty potent, so they set about delving into impacted places and fighting for god parts to feed their new deity. As their god feeds, so too does their flesh become corrupted by impossible cosmic forces emanating from Ikleth. Magnus now is a grey creature with tendrils of his own and his cabal have their own aberrant afflictions that strike terror into the hearts of those who see them.

Ikleth grows stronger with each relic it devours, but what will happen once the beast outgrows the pit?

The Eternal

Lady Cordelia Spite first took to necromancy after raising her recently deceased husband as a meat puppet. By October she had a workshop powered by slowly rotting ghouls helping her delve further into the secrets of undeath. While Lady Cordelia was wealthy beyond words, her true fear was the blackness at the end of it all. If only she could stave off death only then could she be at peace. Seeing opportunity to use the secrets of the gods as part of her work, she sent her ghoulish minions and hired hands to find sacred relics.

The Pale Druids

A cult based in the gnarled Veilwoods, the Pale Druids worship the Crimson Stone, a 20 foot megalith caked in gore. Led by their Oracle, Dreth, the Pale Druids crush up sacred relics of the gods into a fine power before adding to their dark wine – the vinum abominus. For a brief time the power inherent in the god-relics gives the drinker power over nature itself, allowing communion with the trees and beasts of the Veilwoods.

Order of Stars

This group of mystics and dreamweavers seek the mysteries of the future, believing that sacred relics can offer god-like omniscience and knowledge. Led by the esoteric Vestra the Eye, the Order of Stars read omens and auguries to determine where the next god will fall.

The Order is nomadic, erecting complex tent towns filled with incense and strange songs where they can study the mysteries of the universe.
