Told you, this channel is going to be experimental!
This channel is about art and trying different materials. But this time it seems like the experiments are not only about the materials. We are changing the overall scenario.
So you all know 'XRP the Standard Productions', right? He is producing those nice videos which are entertaining but also educating about the XRP ecosystem. He just recently got mentioned by a couple of well known youtubers and even David Schwartz commented on his Videos so it was quite a surprise that he contacted me for illustrations on his newest project: “The Great Work”.
I was talking about a changed scenario. What has changed is that this time I wasn't the only judge on my pieces and that the project had a deadline. I gave that hard deadline myself since I was about to leave the country for vacation and I wasn't planning to take the whole equipment with me. To be quicker, I switched from analog to digital and used a graphic program (sure most of you will recognize it) and my old graphic tablet and started drawing. The next problem was that I had to find the right style to make the illustrations. I decided to go with the GTA-packaging-comic-like style which still looks kind of realistic. BUt this epiphany came a little late. So I had to scrap some illustrations. And I was losing time...
Talking of time: One of my regular art pieces (like Deadpool) normally takes two whole weekends to get finished. Here was the aim to make around 15 illustrations in 2-3 weeks. What a challenge! And here is the result. I recorded some illustrations with my camera so you can see step by step how I did it.
By the way: In my subscription-only-content you will find my audio comments on the pictures and some illustrations which didn't make it into the short story. I also show you the material I used.
instead of showing you an art piece in fast forward, this time I will show you the place I work at. I explain the basic process of creating my painting / drawings, which recording equipment and which editing software I use. In the end I give you an outlook what else I am planning to change to improve the overall quality of the channel.
This is the microphone mount without the actual microphone:
Like I said in the video, this is not my idea. But it is the idea that suited me the best. Practical, cheap, does the job. This is the source where I got it from. It german.
Here you see a close up of my camera mount. and this is where you can buy it on amazon.de.
As you can see it ends with an external thread
Depending on what kind of an internal thread your camera has you have to use an adapter (in this case 5/8” to 3/8”). Just type in “adapter 5/8 to 3/8” or similar.
You mount your camera on this external thread. I am using an YI 4K. HD recording is enough for my fast forward videos.
Marvel's Movies in general are a guarantee for entertainment. But some of them just brake out of the box. It makes the movie feel different. For me personally Guardians of the Galaxy, Dr. Strange and of course Deadpool were movies like that. Can't wait for the next one.
Here is my fast forward video to my very own deadpool art piece. It just needs some of your attention. I end up with one of his quotes:
“You can’t buy love, but you can rent it for three minutes!”
With this painting I referred to an artpiece made by David Raskin and I gave it an own title. In this scene I see a japanese warrior returning home from war. He is still wearing his armor, so the nightmares of war are still in the recent past.
It is already autumn and all plants are turning into their reddish color. The whole scene gives the impression that a lot of time has passed during the soldier's absence. Things have changed. But home is shown here as magnificant gigantic buildings. Like a rock in the sands of time.
Home stays home.
And here is how I did the painting:
If you'd like to see a video with my comments on the painting, what techniques I used and which problems I faced, just sign up for the subscription content!
Remember when I told you, that I want to follow an experimental approach in this channel? There is a high probability of a potential backlash in experiments. No wonder it comes in one of my first videos. But first just enjoy the fast forward video of this painting. The whole recording took less than 2h. Not all pieces of art have to have hours of hours of hours. Quick paintings like this will result in swift results which can motivate you to go on....if you don't srew up:
You want to know what material I precisley used and what I think of this painting? Unlock the subscription content.
A character out of the video game “Destiny” made by the developers of Bungie. “He” is a tragic figure with a weird sense of humour which sometimes makes him seem not suited for battle. But the moment he gets into a tough situation he becomes that battle-tested warrior he is supposed to be. The number 6 implies that there have already been 5 other versions before him. That is possible due to the fact that he is a humanoid machine.
This explains, why he has this metal face. Since he is wearing a neckerchief – an accessory robots actually don't need – he must still have a sense for aesthetics or was just programmed in this way to look more human.
The whole drawing took 20 hours. Here it is in fast forward.
This time no audio in the background.
For the ideal experience and to set the right mood open this first in a second window and watch my video with the original soundtrack:
I am not a professional artist. I it is my hobby. For those who want to take part in my work feel free to follow me.
For those who want to go one step further and support me improving my channel here is the way how to do it: Unlock the subscription-only content and you will find out which equipment I used, which techniques I applied and which problems I faced. I reflect the problems everybody will get in the process of improving your drawing and painting skills.
I will comment my videos and provide lists of the used materials.
We passed a long time of ice and snow. Now it is time for fire again.
We thought we reached paradise already back in 2017. But reality hits the hardest when we lose the ground under our feet. And that is what happend. We thought summer '17 will never end – that's the reason why we weren't prepared for what was about to come.
Season started to change and it got colder.
“That's just a swift change of climate,” they said. “It will be warm soon”, they said. I don't know if they truly believed in what they were saying or if it was just to make us stay. And most of us stayed.
Temperature was dropping so fast – it was shock frosting our convictions and we had to rethink our expecations of an everlasting summer. Wise people said that there will be sun again but only for those who really persevere. We only need to pass through a steep and rocky valley to reach the other end. So we decided to move on and packed only what we were able to carry and got moving. If I had only known how many of us weren't going to make it...
On the road we met a lot of people who told us to return home. We are chasing a fiction. “Winter is here. And it is not going away.” For me it was their own insecurity that was speaking for them. We had to keep going and it was getting harder with every step away from home. More and more people turned around. They couldn't stand the cold. They needed a safe haven. To have something on stock so life would be more planable. Even the most courageous people turned away from there aim when a polar bear crossed our road and put us all at danger.
But some of us made it. I made it.
The journey took us 500 days. And the icy and rocky landscapes are turning into something where life can be. Couple of days ago was the first time I saw grass again – after months. An even a little bull made it close to the border of the dangerous lands we just came from.
It's getting warmer now and I can see green mountains not too far away. And that's where we are heading. That's where we will have our next summer.
I made a map of the valley to remind us where we came from and to always be prepared for what eventually may come.
A koi fish jumping out of the water. But not only water is surrounding it but also cherry blossoms. That turns the scene into something idealistic. Into a dream. The splashy water morphs into something resembling clouds. Out of the clouds appears a female person who is looking thoughtfully: She has her head in the clouds.
Here is how I did the drawing in fast forward:
Really enjoying those double brush pens! Added some colors to my gray scale palette. I really like the Koi fish as a symbol of strength and the japanese way of drawing water. It reminds me of Hokusai Katsushika's “Under The Great Wave of Kanagawa”:
Next piece is going to be a little “colder” and only one color will be important.
