Roscoe's Quick Notes

my micro-blog

More good advice recently found: “In this season you have to remain calm and at peace. Peace and stillness are weapons right now.”

Found on another social site: “We are in that moment between the lightning and the thunder.” Yep.

Don't become overly disturbed at “news” reported. Things are not what they seem to be. Lies, half-truths, deceptions, and emotional hooha are swirling around. This is what is known as “The Fog of War.” Remain calm, wait, and see what develops. Speak slowly, listen closely, and have faith.

Today's three main tasks: 1.) Show up at the lab to have blood drawn, part of my regularly scheduled physical checkup; 2.) Work on all my Correspondence Chess games, this will probably take 2 or 3 hours if I can find a block of that much uninterrupted time; and 3.) avoid becoming overly stressed by whatever is reported in the “news” today, for that I'll resort to frequent prayer.

This Tuesday morning will need to be mostly about chess. I've just been entered in a new tournament that adds six more games to my current load. In addition to making moves in the newly assigned games, I'll be adding them to my permanent paper scorebook.

Just in from two hours of yard work. On the one hand I'm pleased with what I accomplished out there, but on the other hand that I'm disappointed that only two hours of physical work can exhaust me so. When I consider how I was able to work just a few short years ago... my, oh my. Glad I started “working out” again today!

It will be interesting to see how well I function today, given the level of insomnia that visited me last night.

Briefly noted mid-morning: The sun is shining brightly and will eventually start to dry things off after yesterday's rain. And that will allow me to get some work done on the lawn, after it warms up some.

New 2021 wall calendars are hung, and soon I'll change the paper planner pages, too. Beyond that, the day's attention will be mostly spent on the yard work mentioned above, College Bowl Games, chess work, and the coding project.

Oh, here's wishing you all a Happy New Year!

No disrespect intended, but one sure sign that 2020 has been an oddball year is the Ball State Cardinals Football Team playing in this afternoon's Arizona Bowl. And early in the game they're ahead! Huh!

As I sit with my morning coffee and consider the day ahead, it becomes clear that effective time management will be important if I'm to make this day productive or if it will devolve into a pile of wasted hours.
