Roscoe's Quick Notes

my micro-blog

My first happy news of the day came from a TD in the ICCF. It was the pairings for a tournament in which I recently entered. There are 7 of us playing: an Italian, a German, a Croatian, 3 Englishmen and me. Though the official start date of our tourney is 04 January, I've received in this morning's email opening moves from some of the guys.

For the next few days we're going to have sunny afternoons with temperatures in the low 70s. Sweet! That's going to make some of my chores much easier!

Oh c'mon, Big 10 Network. I come to you for sports, for cryin' out loud, not for SJW sermonettes. If you don't quit preaching to me, I'm going to stop listening to you!

Have set up a web page to list and link to projects I'm currently working on. When I'm not playing chess or relaxing with a good book, these are probably occupying my time.

Happy Humpday! It's great to have a morning when the schedule allows me to sleep extra hours, and I actually do sleep those extra hours.

Relearning skills I haven't used in decades and finding it necessary to do A LOT of Internet research to bring myself up to date. Huh! Coding is done quite differently these days than it was back in the 90s.

A much longer than usual morning nap and an early evening Zoom business meeting have caused me to reschedule some of my regular Monday chores.

As I sip the morning's 2nd cup of coffee, it becomes clear that today in the Roscoe-verse is going to be relaxed and slow-moving. Which is fine. To the temptations to get actively involved in developing situations where I have historically played a part, let me just say: Umm... no. I'll just sit quietly and watch. For now. Thank you.

Just heard Roger Staubach in a live radio interview talking about this afternoon's Army/Navy game. It was great to hear him. It was especially great to hear him sounding so “young”. His voice was strong and his mind was quick. And he's older than I am. Put a smile on my face.

Yesterday I received a call from my doctor's office. “Mr Ellis, the doctor won't be seeing any patients in the office tomorrow. Would you be willing to make your appointment a tele-health call, or do you want to reschedule it for later?” With a big smile I said that a tele-health call will be just fine.

So I sit here with my morning coffee and a cinnamon roll, expecting a call from my doctor's PA (she's the nice lady who did my tele-health call last Spring) in about an hour or so, and enjoying a much easier start to this Thursday than I had anticipated.
