Roscoe's Quick Notes

my micro-blog

Another quiet Sunday comes to a peaceful end. Today was the start of “bulky item collection week” here, and I hauled one broken gamer's chair and a stand fan out to the curb this morning. Sylvia told me that a scavenger drove by shortly after I'd dropped them off and picked both of them up. Cool!

A good ending to a good day, Svengoolie is showing one of my all-time favorite monster movies tonight, The Creature From the Black Lagoon. I have no idea how many times I've seen this since I was a boy, but I still enjoy it.

Another restful day comes to a close. One thing I like about MLB Spring Training Season is that tied games are allowed. My Rangers played the Angels this afternoon in a game that ended in a 3-3 tie after nine innings. And I'm fine with that.

This has been a pretty good Thursday. I kept everything low-key, and accomplished more than I'd planned.

A pretty peaceful Wednesday winds down. I kept to my promise of granting this a rest day, following yesterday's work with the branches in the front yard. And I'm glad I did. Now if I can just grant myself a good night's sleep ...

A major chore has just presented itself. The big wind knocked a big branch off the tree in my front yard this morning. I dragged it around to the side yard a few minutes ago where I'll spend this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon cutting it up and loading it into the green organics bin for Thursday's collection.

Another quiet day. Which is a good thing and much appreciated. Dozed through most of the morning, though I did remember to haul the weekly trash out to the curb for its collection. Did my weekly laundry through most of the afternoon. Watched a few old game shows on TV and ate lunch at home with the wife, then spent most of the rest of the day listening to relaxing music and quietly reading.

As far as days of rest go (and Sundays are supposed to be days of rest, right?) this has been a pretty good one. Actually got a bit of yard work done in the morning: light trim at a few spots in the front yard. Neither strenuous nor very time-consuming work, but it did improve things a bit.

Was able to follow two interesting and enjoyable baseball games in the afternoon. The day's chess work went well, and nothing alarming showed up as I was monitoring news reports throughout the day. Can't ask for a whole lot more than that, ya' know?

This has been a strange “sandwichy” sort of day, with one very good thing sandwiched between two disappointments. The first disappointment was the rain-out of a college softball game I'd been planning to follow. The game started well, but midway through the 2nd inning the rain came down in torrents. I monitored the channel carrying the game for hours but eventually gave up and moved on to other things. The other disappointment came when I tried to follow tonight's Svengoolie but found the movie so bad I wasn't able to suffer through it.

The one good thing happened late in the afternoon when Amazon delivered a small jar of new-to-me arthritis pain cream. Wow! This has proved to be the best thing for my aching hands that I've ever found! So I'll focus on that find and consider this Saturday a good one!

Still recovering from the yard work 2 days ago, and from the time change last weekend, and from the particularly nasty insomnia break last night caused by the skunk right outside my bedroom window, I made the best I could out of this Friday.
