Chicago, IL – The strains of the civil rights anthem, Oh, Freedom, rang out in Trinity Episcopal Church on Chicago’s South Side, Feb. 12, sung by Evangeline Jackson. Jackson, a registered nurse, is a leader in her union, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 1216. As a young woman in the South in the 1980s, her hospital was unionized with the help of Frank Chapman, a veteran of the Black liberation movement.
Houston, TX – Over 50 students and activists gathered at the Montrose Center here, Oct. 25, to celebrate the anniversary of the Great October Revolution of 1917. 99 years ago, under the leadership of Lenin and the Communist Party, the Bolsheviks seized state power in Russia and created the first ever socialist state. The celebration highlighted the achievements of socialism in the Soviet Union and what we can learn today from the Soviet experience.
Tallahassee, FL – On September 10th, thirty-five students and community members gathered from Florida and North Carolina to participate in a day school hosted by members of the Student Commission of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO). The event consisted of presentations on revolutionary theory and how students apply it to their activism.
Salt Lake City, UT – Members of Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) and Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) presented the basics of Marxism-Leninism to a group of 30 community members, students, and local organizers on July 9. The presenters focused on the fundamentals of capitalism and socialism, the struggle of oppressed nationalities in the U.S. and abroad, and the need for a communist party of the multinational working class.

Tampa FL – A dozen Tampa Bay activists gathered on May Day weekend to commemorate International Workers Day. Members of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) held a Fight Back! fundraiser. Lufkin, TX – On April 1, members of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) held a socialism forum here in Lufkin. The purpose of the forum was to explain what socialism really is, what socialism in the U.S. would look like and what the path toward socialism might consist of. Houston, TX – The Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) held a forum in Houston, March 5, to inform the community about socialism and why we need a socialist revolution. The event was held at Solidarity Houston, a community library and meeting space for activists. Over 60 students, professors and activists from a variety of different movements attended the event.

Chicago, IL – We are circulating the text of Frank Chapman’s Dec. 5 speech at Chicago’s 24th annual People’s Thanksgiving event, hosted by Fight Back! newspaper. Frank Chapman is a veteran of the Black Liberation Movement. He was a victim of wrongful imprisonment as a young man, and then, like Malcolm X, George Jackson and others, became politicized in prison. His release was won through a political struggle led by none other than Angela Davis.From 1981 through 1989, Frank was the executive director of the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression. In the past five years, he’s returned to that work, leading the campaign of the Chicago Alliance to win an elected, civilian police accountability council. This would amount to community control of the police, an idea first raised by the Black Panther Party over 40 years ago.
Jacksonville, FL – A dozen community organizers gathered on Nov. 14 to discuss political theory. The event was organized by members of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) at a local union hall owned by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).
