What a year it was: from the January protests at the inauguration of Donald Trump as president and the massive and historic Women’s Marches, to the closing days of December where immigrant youth protested Trump’s ending of the DACA (Deferred Action for Children Arrivals) which put hundreds of thousands of undocumented at risk of deportation, this has been a year of people’s struggle!

Hollywood, FL — Activists involved in the Hollywood, Florida’s Change the Names campaign (which was successful in getting the city change three streets names that were named after KKK and Confederate leaders) grilled burgers in the low-income Liberia neighborhood. The activists walked plates up to folks who couldn't leave their homes. That community has been without power since Friday. No AC, no fridge, no oven, no way out. The activists were out the days after the storm before any local government or companies were setting up distribution centers.
Fort Lauderdale, FL — Over 600,000 residents of South Florida were ordered to leave their homes in mandatory evacuations put into place due to Hurricane Irma. However, the government was vastly underprepared to house and help those residents forced to leave their homes.

The United Nations Security Council on June 21st welcomed the deployment by the so-called Group of Five (G5) – Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger – of a joint force to tackle the threat of terrorism, as well as the serious challenges posed by transnational organized crime in Africa’s restive Sahel region. Also by that text, the Council urged the joint force of up to 5,000 military and police personnel, as well as the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali and French forces in that country to ensure adequate coordination and exchange of information regarding their operations, within their respective mandates.
