Police detain pro-immigrant protester assaulted by Trump supporter
Salt Lake City, UT – One month after delivering demands for a sanctuary campus to the University of Utah administration, Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) sat in and shut down their office on March 8.
St. Paul, MN – On Saturday, March 4, Twin Cities residents are coming together at the Minnesota state capitol to oppose the Trump regime and to shut down the state's local manifestation of the national “March 4 Trump.”
Students want ban on Trump administration visiting campus
Jacksonville, FL – The University of North Florida (UNF) chapter of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) rallied, marched, and staged a sit in, Feb. 28, to present several demands to the school administration. These demands included turning the campus into a sanctuary campus, banning Trump’s administration from visiting UNF, and pushing for more Black, Latino and other oppressed nationality teachers and students on campus. There was also a call for a $15 living wage for all workers on campus. Over 40 students participated in the event, titled “SDS Strikes Back” in reference to last semester’s huge Black Lives Matter rally that launched SDS and pulled a core of student activists together.
On Sunday, Feb. 19, a standing-room only crowd of more than 700 packed the San Jose Day of Remembrance event. Every year the San Jose Nihonmachi Outreach Committee (NOC) organizes this event to commemorate Executive Order 9066. Executive Order 9066 paved the way for the incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans in concentration camps during World War II.
Tampa, FL – On Tuesday, Feb 14, more than 20 students at the University of South Florida (USF) gathered to demand that the administration bring Iranian student Mehdi Zeyghami home. The rally, which began at 12 noon, marked the beginning of Tampa Bay Students for a Democratic Society’s (SDS) new campaign: “Sanctuary for All.”
New York, NY – On Jan. 28, the day after President Trump signed the executive order to restrict Muslims from seven countries from entering the U.S., reports came from the John F. Kennedy International airport saying that 12 people, including an Iranian Ph.D. student and two Iraqi refugees, were being detained under Trump’s new rule.
Chicago, IL – After a day of protests and walkouts on the campuses of DePaul, Loyola and the University of Illinois at Chicago, 5000 people rallied and marched back and forth across Chicago’s Loop, Jan. 20, in opposition to the racist agenda of President Trump.
Minneapolis, MN – On Jan. 20 students will be walking out of class at the University of Minnesota and Augsburg College to protest the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump as a part of the citywide Resist from Day One Coalition’s call to action. Jacksonville, FL – On Dec. 8, President-elect Donald Trump announced fast food executive Andy Puzder as his pick for Secretary of Labor. Puzder is the CEO of CKE Restaurants, which owns Hardee's, Carl’s Jr. and several other national chains.
West Allis, WI – 50 protesters rallied in zero-degree weather outside the entrance to Donald Trump's ‘Thank you tour’ at the Wisconsin State Fair Park on Tuesday night, Dec. 13. The anti-Trump activists stood in the entrance to the park as Trump supporters were forced to walk through the protest to enter the Trump speaking event. After Trump supporters insulted a woman carrying a protest sign, the protesters chanted, “Pussy grabbing is not okay!”
Minneapolis, MN – Dec. 10 marks International Human Rights Day. The Minnesota Anti-War Committee had a short rally at Lake Street and Nicollet Avenue, followed by a march of 200 people to denounce Trump's agenda of hate and racism.
Houston, TX – Hundreds of people, many who were students, came out to protest the election of Donald Trump, Nov. 10. They gathered in front of City Hall and began chanting, “Hey Trump, you liar, we're here to say you're fired,” followed by a few speeches. The sentiment of the crowd was one of rage and anger.
Tallahassee, FL -The night after the election, Nov. 9, 200 Florida State University (FSU) students, faculty and community members assembled on the steps of the Old Florida Capitol to protest against President-elect Donald Trump.
Houston, TX – Donald Trump faced a spirited protest outside the Omni Hotel in Houston on Sept. 17. Trump was speaking to a hate based anti-immigrant group called the Remembrance Project.
West Bend, WI – 75 people attended a protest outside a Donald Trump rally at the Washington County Fair Grounds on Aug. 16. Protesters held signs near the entrance to the Trump rally while thousands of Trump supporters walked into the event.

Houston, TX – On June 17 over 200 activists and community leaders protested Donald Trump in River Oaks, a wealthy area. Trump was holding a campaign fundraiser at the home of the right-wing lawyer Tony Buzbee. Supporters who attended the fundraiser paid $5000 dollars to have their photo taken with Trump, and as much as $250,000 to spend an evening with the Republican nominee.
Houston, TX – On June 17, Donald Trump will be holding a fundraiser in Houston to raise money for his campaign of racism, hatred and fear. The event will be held at the home of Tony Buzbee, a notoriously right wing lawyer who represented criminals like Rick Perry, the former governor of Texas. Buzbee's home is located in River Oaks, the most bourgeois neighborhood in town that houses the richest capitalists of Houston. Trump is charging $5000 for people to have their photo taken with him, and over $250,000 to spend an evening with him.
Minneapolis, MN – Immigrant rights activists marched from the office of democrat Senator Amy Klobuchar to the Minnesota Republican Party headquarters May 25 to protest a new wave of immigration raids and deportations targeting Central American mothers and children in May and June. The protest was organized by the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee as part of the No More Deportations campaign.
