KassArt

This one is about my art. Everything that can be done on a blank background will find it‘s way here. Stay tuned!

Next art tutorial. This time it is about arms. I want to tell you about the basics of learning human anatomy and show you some fast forward exercises of me drawing arms. Don't ask me why I picked blue as a skin color. I just felt like it. At the end you will get a video of me drawing arms in realtime and talking about it.

Before we start: This piece is just one step on my way of mastering art. I change the media and I want to be able to create different styles of art pieces. Follow me on my journey here on Coil, Cinnamon and on Twitter: https://twitter.com/KassjanS

Hallo 2021 and welcome to my first video in the new year!

I purchased a 22” drawing tablet for digital art and it will be used many many times for my digital artwork which is yet to come. So I am really excited! But besides that I am grateful. This platform and this community made it possible that I was able to get this device.

So a big *THANK YOU!* is due.

So I just felt it is the right thing to do to start the new year with a digital art tutorial. If you have any questions feel free to contact me via twitter of on cinnamon video. I'd be glad to see you around!

I used these sources to do my studies on proportions:

https://www.proko.com/"

“Book: Figure Drawing – Design and Invention, by Michael Hampton”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGCSDLm0aXQ&t=578s"

https://creatureartteacher.com/"

Moreover I used my XP-Pen 22” R Artist Pro for the artwork.

Persistence is key! Or in other words: If you have a wall to climb, keep running against it. Just do it the smart way.

It took three takes to finish this one. After my first two tries I switched equipment and this made a huge difference. In all honesty: I am not the non-swimmer blaming the swimming lane here. These two changes were essential. Check them out in my video.

This video is about my first work with charcoal. I was able to use my pencil experience and apply it here, although charcoal is a slightly different medium. I am happy with the result and I had a blast doing it. Time just flew by – 25 hours of work was put into this piece. Enjoy watching it!

Welcome back to another video! I am trying out some changes: I will reduce every artwork into one video. This video will be accessible in this section. In the subscription-only section I will post the list of materials I used. It will make me able to spend more time creating and post more content for you guys. I also will use CinnamonShorts instead of my super fast-forward teasers I used to post on Twitter. So let me know what you think!

The topic of today is a commission I got. I will create a Tattoo. After a lot of feedback rounds with my client I really like the result.

It is obvious that a tattoo has to be perfect, because ideally it will stay there for life. That is why the feedback is so important.

Once the tattoo is done, I will give you an update. I don't know how long it is going to take, since Germany is going into another lockdown on monday.

Btw.: In the video I was talking about an old master who was able to draw perfect circles. I didn't find the text where it was written, but if me memory is not failing me then it was Raphael.

Whenever I was drawing with a reference or a model I always followed the mantra: “Draw what you see.” In fact I really put a lot of effort in it to be really precise. But it is not about drawing what you see. It is about drawing what you know. So with this paradigm shift I started from scratch and read a lot of theoretical texts and articles about gesture drawing. Yes, I even bought a whole book about artistic anatomy. And still it is a craft which takes years and decades to master. The author of this book says that the best living artist for human anatomy right now is still worse than the worst master in this book. He thinks human anatomy is a craft which is getting lost (I will tell you more details about the book in my videos).

Anyway, I also started the 30-days trial period on https://www.proko.com/. That was helpful! After I learned some lessons I felt like I am ready to put my new skills into use. First I was using my sketchbook to do gesture drawings and torso shadings. Watch what I did there in my first video of this article (btw.: In the video I made the first torso only in double speed so you can follow better. The rest is in the usual fast forward).

But before we start: This piece is just one step on my way of mastering art. I change the media and I want to be able to create different styles of art pieces. Follow me on my journey here on Coil, Cinnamon and on Twitter:

After that I started to draw one of the most famous statues. David from David and Goliath made by Michelangelo.

This is an unusual art project. It is unusual because of the equipment I used. I didn't apply pencil or watercolor on paper which was the most frequently used material in my other art pieces. This time I painted with acryl markers on wood. And the surface I am painting on is a aerodynamic disk wheel of a racing bike.

I have a neighbour who is renovating racing bikes. He is focusing on “oldtimers” and once they are renovated they turn into really beautiful pieces. The handlebars are getting coiled with fresh leather. The frame is first cleaned and then painted a.s.o. It is a really impressive craft and combines manufacturing with art.

A disc wheel (that's the wheel in the back on the photo) can be perceived as a canvas. So I got the idea of adding a nice design to this blank space.

The first idea we (my neighbour and I) had was, that we put this wheel on a frame with the sponsor Martini (which was yet to be bought). Therefore respective colors were used:

After the work was done we saw that the wheel colors perfectly fit to a frame which we already have. So no “new” frame was longer needed. But I had to get new painting material for this project and I got a tip from a graffiti tagger I know who uses acryl markers. They are super opaque and the color looks brilliant. So I bought some.

Next important question was: “What to paint?” The first idea was to put a woman inside of a Martini glass. This was one of my “Work in Progress”-photos I posted on Twitter. But we discarded this idea. The problematic part is, that the wheel hub is in the middle of my canvas. Either I integrate the hub into my picture or I have to make the painting significantly smaller and place it outside the center of the wheel.

After some brainstorming we chose to pick a circle in the middle which is dissolving into polygons. These polygons are building up a bear and a bull. This has less to do with Martini – but investing is also a huge part of my neighbours life, so he saw here a good fit.

Sidenote: My very own bike hat to be repaired. An animal chewed the leather off my handle bars. The chain was slipping and the gear shifting was problematic. So we exchanged the picture for a fully repaired bike. Problem(s) solved.

And here is the final result of the artwork:

I am really proud! I like how it turned out and there was a real creative process and due diligence which had do be done earlier. But more to that in my videos.

After posting some of my artwork on social media @sleone_76 approached me and asked me, if I want to make t-shirt designs for his shop. I was really hyped about that so I decided to make immediately two of those (the other design can be found in the subscription only content ;) ). You can purchase them now in his shop:

Therefore a very big *THANK YOU* for this great, great opportunity to create fashion. I will definately be coming back and make more designs.

So this article is about how I made my “Suit up for a bull run” design. But before we start a word from the sponsor :

Next portrait and I love the alarming red color in combination with the facial expression. It is very sensual and passionate, but also implies danger. The way I look up to this almost intimidating woman which observes me through her lashes mezmerizes me. The colors are blending nicely and I found a really nice balance between watercolors and colored pencil. The hair is so pitch black that you can't even see single strands. The hair is literally absorbing the light and merges into the strong black outlines. It is a picture of sheer strength and I was really excited the moment I finished it.

In this video you can find how I drew and painted this piece. In the subscription only content I will provide you a list of the materials I used plus an additional video where I explain my single steps.

Welcome to the third and last article about my Koi Triptych. This is my second livestream and this time we are going to use a reference that is a little more tricky than the last one. The last one was “kind of” from the top. You saw the full length of the fish. What makes it more tricky is that we look at the fish from the front and slightly from the top. The fish's body length is shortened du to this perspective and our task is to transport this image on the paper. Moreover his tail dissappears in the back which also will be a challenge to paint it. But don't fear the task, my dear reader!

Embrace it.
