fuck that

not going down that road

#socialmedia addiction is a real thing and I am over it

I don't like the #media at ALL, and I am never going to be on social media where people bitch and troll and thirst for attention and validation for hours of their day. Pathetic.

If you're here from a social network (which one, I don't know because I am not sharing this post nor future posts with social media accounts): hello. Glad you're here. I don't like social media but will not discriminate against other for wasting their time. That sounds sarcastic, but seriously – everyone uses social media, so I won't bother giving a fuck if you do, too.

Many people like jumping off the social networking bridge these days, but that doesn't mean I have to be one of them.

Blogging has always, Always, ALWAYS been my jam and I have always done more of it than anything else since I “returned” to the Internet in 2006 after several years away from it. This is all.

The Internet, itself, isn't bad. I take online courses here. I am earning a certificate from #EdX (in programming no less!) from here. I will be doing all my STLCC courses here. I share thoughts from here. If the Internet isn't a tool to improve myself in one way or another, then there is truly no use for it.

I remember back in the mid-90s when people would dream about what the internet could be. It could help us be more productive. It could help us navigate the world around us. It could make us better as a civilization if we could democratize it's usage and make it one, beautiful, egalitarian service that was accessible by anyone. From anywhere. At any time.

Instead, it is pure division, distraction, and hinderance on our progression as a society. People addictively tap, scroll, and wither-away their time and energy on social media. People stopped living and started to try to LOOK like they were living on the WWW. It's corny and crass to quote “The Network” in a post like this but for fucks sake, “You people are the real thing, We are the illusion!”

It's sad and terrible to see what the information superhighway has done to the majority of us. Rarely is it a tool. Rarely do we use it to navigate the world around us. Rarely do we use it to make the world better – either for those people around us or for the Earth's ecosystem itself.

We failed. It failed. We don't deserve it, and we can be better without it.

That's all.

It's Late

And I love this hour of the day. 10PM (on the nose) and the crickety crick crickets are chirping and I have a cabinet full of coffee grounds and I will be awake for quite some time.

Peaceful

Who's Up For Quitting ALL Social Media?

Because I am! I am dedicated to never using bird site again. So I may as well say “fuck Mastodon” as well. There are hella cool people on there and they are (mostly) super-friendly, but I seriously hate socializing w/ people. No matter how cool a person is; there are always 2 or 3 or 10 other idiots who do not make it worth the time/effort to maintain the good friendship(s).

I seriously cannot stand trolls and this is why I left Twitter (that and there are. lot of nazis on there in general + (@)jack is a nazi (& the website's CEO)). Fuck Twitter. Fuck social media.

I am gonna crawl in a productivity + creativity + self-improvement cave for a good long while

(but I'll still blog)

see ya!

Off Of Media

I have this strange desire to be “media-free”. I have discussed this on this blog before, but I will mention it again: I want to be w/o media. Of any type. The only social media I use is mastodon (which could change, I may even leave that), and I sometimes listen to NPR on my CCrane PCKT radio (on a rare occasion), but other than that, no media whatsoever. Pocket (the app) sends me e-mails, but I basically read one article out of dozens out of sheer boredom once in a blue moon. I do listen to music, and I love books. But those are the only two forms of “media” I would like to subscribe to. Everything else is noise.

I Had A Great Time Tonight

Coffee was purchased. Sweat was drawn from my pores as I walked to get it. I came home and made several lattes as I chatted away on Mastodon.social and I met some p cool people on there. I also started listening to a radio station from the “simple playlist”...playlist on Spotify and it is playing Soooo many good jams. Probably added 20+ songs to different playlists on my profile. Love this “station” or whateverthefuck it is. Also, not missing Twitter (bird site) at all.

So, tomorrow I am dedicating myself to making the Scratch 2 sprite for #CS50x (which I mentioned before). I am very much so looking forward to that.

I feel good tonight. Will go to bed in a little bit, I think.

Be back in a bit!

#homesweethome

I made it back after I had an incredible #therapy session! Really a lot of progress, I think. Also got some cashola for #coffee that I am going to be drinking tf out of tonight (bc caffeine effin' rules!).

And tomorrow: Scratch 2 sprite time. I am going to brainstorm a little interactive animation and program that little bad boy into existence and finish up Week 0 within one week and finish strong. I submit through GitHub and I already created an acct on there before I even signed up for the class. Having fun w/ all of it :))))

Still no word as far as the loan discharge goes but I am really hoping that it happens within the next 10 days so there are no hang-ups in terms of getting everything rolling for FAFSA in Fall 2018 at STLCC.

Here's hoping.

heading out in a bit here soon

(in about 15 mins)

I am just killing time here by journaling on the ol' bloggy log and thinking about how nice a big, fact fountain Diet Pepsi is gonna taste when I am on the way back to pick up the dad from dialysis.

I am probably gonna try to think of a sprite animation tomorrow for #CS50x. That is all I have left to do this week, tbh. Then onto Week 1 (this project was Week 0). I am looking forward to all of it.

And as far as the loan discharge status, it is still under review. I am hoping like hell they hurry the fuck up so I can get going w/ the enrollment process at STLCC this fall, but, we'll see.

be back in a bit!

I Own Very Little Things

Because things usually do not bring me joy + I am addicted to the feeling of no “mental clutter”.

I just saw a podcast episode (the title, didn't listen, yet) about “taking minimalism too far” or “too much minimalism” or some shit like that and it sounded pretty pretentious. Who is anyone is the position to say how much or how little one should own. Better yet, who should/would anyone care? If they are hoarding, then that may be a little different but the act of having less is never a “problem” from what I can see.

Anyway, I am an anarcho-minimalist and that is to say my thing is more or less a derivative of anarcho-primitivism where one believes there should be no government other than to provide basic, common services and the rest is up to humans. Anarchy has nothing to do with vandalism or chaos (as many people would think). I describe myself as an anarcho-minimalist because I believe in “rewilding”. Taking care of Mother Nature above ourselves. And that we should “leave the place better than when we found it”. Human activities is the opposite of this rule. We are hideous.

But back to the whole “no stuff” thing. Why is this? Well, to be without stuff is not only cathartic, freeing, and is a liberation from the responsibilities of inanimate object ownership, but it is also important for any nomadic ventures or to simply move from place to place (which is nomadism). I move every couple of years and I plan on keeping it this way. Usually it is around the same general area (because family is nearby), but travel will be a big part of my life at some point.

In the meantime, there is little reason for me to have stuff just...sitting around. It's pointless.

The Whole Internet Is Lame

At least from where I am sitting.

Social media connected us, but the problem was; it connected us, human beings, which are the worst of the world

But the Internet, itself, along with all media (not just the social varietal) is nothing more than a distraction (deliberate on our parts or not) from the actual problems happening on Earth. We tend to only care about what other people think. Sometimes what they think about us, sometimes what other people think about each other. But this isn't how I think it should be. I think people should care more about the Earth and Earthlings.

When the oceans eat our coastlines and knock out the power we all take for granted, I think people will have a newfound appreciation for the “smaller things” in the world.

I am saying this from an anarcho-primitivist/anarcho-minimalist perspective and though I wish no one would be hurt from climate change and the like, I am pretty sure the changes in the world's ecosystem is going to be the biggest wake up call of all wake up calls.

Crazy times we live in, certainly.

Sprite attempt #1: FAILED!

So I was a bit over-ambitious when it came to making that game. Then I realized I was breaking the rules the instructor set out for us (no more than two sprites) so I had to scrap the whole project anyway.

Instead, I will try to make the most simple Sprite game yet. Probably a Pong thing, or something like it.

I am not going to do that right now though.
