What The Frick, GitHub?

LOL, I just tried to update my profile a little bit and it won't acknowledge that I am d/l'ing the recovery codes for #2FA or showing me the profile photo I put up. These are minor things, all things considered, but I figured this site was cutting-edge or whatever.

I heard that Microsoft bought GH which is p fucking crazy if you ask me. Fucking hate mega-corps and I am p sure there are or will be alternatives to GH in the near future that will do even better than it does as far as people contributing, members because I lot, Lot, LOT of people are mistrustful of large companies these days (esp me!)

I set up this acct before the CS50x course, but then I realized that I absolutely need an acct at GH in order to do the course, so...I am glad I made one! :)

I Probably Write About 5K Words A Day

Everyday. Seven days a week. If someone wants to learn how to #write and write well, start a journal, or diary, or #blog and just hammer away at that shit w/ ideas, concepts, contradictions (lol), etc. and it will definitely make you a better #writer. I am not saying I could write a legit #book (at least not at the moment), but what I do write is fairly legible, I would say.

A Much Smaller Internet

I saw some shit on The Verge (a loooong time ago) about TAILS OS and how it routes everything through Tor and is amnesic (idk if I am spelling that right) and how it (sites accessible through Tor) makes the Internet a “much smaller Internet” because of the fact that Tor cannot access a lot of “Clear Web” websites and whatnot. But in my experience – for right now – I am using a much smaller internet because I do not visit websites (ever) or blogs (ever) or click on other people's links (ever (how could I? I don't use #socialmedia anymore)) and I only once in a blue moon visit Medium or Pocket or any shit like that. So if not for classes, I could basically get by w/ using TAILS OS for...everything. I mean I have the Tor browser on here so I could route the traffic for this #blog through the onion router if I liked, but there is simply no point in that. But if I did go to TAILS, I would have no problem using this blogging platform w/ it. And that's all I need right?

Continuing Education

I got the STLCC CE Guidebook in the mail today and I flipped through it and so many of the courses in there are garbage. I mean they are not 100% useless or anything, but they are much much more geared towards older folks who wanna take an unaccredited class in totally obscure bullshit. LOL! If you're just crazy bored, I could see taking one but the only program in the whole magazine that is worth some (and actually is worth a LOT) is the Master Naturalist certification. That has like 18 actual credit hours associated w/ it + a lot of really good, really useful hands-on projects and it is basically a “foot-in-the-door” when it comes to getting any type of job in conservation or ecological jobs and whatnot. I would actually be interested in the MN certification, but that is not what I am going for, at all.

I am Better At...

... coming up with an idea for a #business than I am at coming up with an idea for a Sprite animation. I am not going to rack my brain and drive myself crazy trying to think of one. I am going to use the examples on the Scratch 2 program (which was recommended by the prof of the CS50x course) and go from there. I will try to be as original as possible. In fact, I most certainly will be or I will not get any credit. LOL! But I am p sure I am just going to make a simple Pong game (which is gonna be incredible). Two+ sprites must be coded, at least three scripts, must use one loop, one condition, and one variable (total? per sprite? idk), at least one sound, and needs to have a few dozen “puzzle” pieces overall (bc this is Scratch and the #code comes in puzzle pieces).

So

I don't think I will have a problem with any of this criteria. Gonna be a blast but I mean, damn – I am gonna need a full day to build it because I have never done it before, but....yeah. It'll be friggin' awesome!

Anywayssssssss...........

A Warm Rain Is Welcome

I feel fantastic (as I usually do).

I would thoroughly enjoy a Scratch 2 project to kill time w/ tonight, but the best I can do is think of the concept of the game I am going to build. In fact, fuck that. All of it will be built tomorrow. Concept brainstorming and all. I am too relaxed this eve to bother w/ it. Besides, I have been at it for three days w/ CS50x and I want at least 24 hrs off from the Week 0 coursework. #deserved.

I think the languages we are covering in the course are: C, Java, Ruby, and something else. I don't even remember at this point. It is all in the syllabi but I am not going to look that up right now. One step at a time and if I am diligent, I will learn all of it.

I was super-inspired by the Medium article about the dude who took that exact course (CS50x) and decided to quit his job doing...whatever, and did a bunch of smallish projects during/after CS50x, did #100DaysOfCode, contributed to open-source stuff, used his real name on GitHub, did a bunch of other cool shit and then went into job openings with what he had built-up as far as digital assets. I am basically doing the same thing, (or wish to), but if/when STLCC comes into the mix, the CS course gets wrapped up w/ what I have left of it, then the #coding, #programming, yada yada stays on as a side-project and I focus all my time/energy/resources towards traditional community college.I can/will do both, but an AA or AAS, whichever one I go into are much higher on the list of priorities than any other side-project. Hence why they are side projects! Haha!

I like the shit I am learning along the way though. CS is a fucking amazing subject and I think that everyone should at least learn the basics if they have the opportunity to. Even #RPi machines have an offline version of Scratch 2 (soon Scratch 3!) built into Raspbian #OS. And that is a $35 PC! I say: Go for it!

Anyway, tomorrow is gonna be great.

Frreshhhhest of Showers

feels good to have a shower when the temp has dipped down to 75 F. I got the windows open and it feels effin' great! :) If there wasn't a shitload of thunder rumbling through the sky, I would consider a walk to the Shell station on my corner and grab a nice pop. In fact, I may scratch that idea and just get a cheaper pop at the laundromat within the apt complex itself.

idk. whatever.

Shared folders

I guess there was a shared folder on this Mac or some shit because I moved all my necessary writing docs onto the desktop and put them in a folder appropriately titled “writing docs”. I need to make a CS50x folder as well, but I will fool about with that tomorrow.

I removed Mastodon (or Tusky or whatever) from my phone

I basically have my (shitty Kyocera) phone as a WiFi hotspot and nothing more these days anyway, so it doesn't make a difference. I get/send texts sometimes, but only a few a day. Phone calls are necessary too (because they always have been). Unlim 4G LTE is a lifesaver bc I only pay $60 a month for it on a GSM network and I don't have to deal with babying an unnecessary WiFi modem, router, etc. at home. That would just be another compulsory bill and totally redundant as far as what is needed in my life.

I look forward to being a lot more productive these days. There is a lot of things I want to get done (in life, in general) and starting tonight, I am going to start doing these things (even though I have already started, big time. In a lot of ways :))

I got the Scratch 2 sprite to make tomorrow (I am dedicated to finishing it) + I got some #writing projects that I can work on tonight. As soon as Google unlocks my account (that I closed three days ago), I will d/l all my writing documents, resume, writing samples, cover letter, etc etc etc and get them saved onto folders on this desktop. I already have them saved on the other desktop but that was before I made myself an Admin on this Mac, and now the Admin acct is the only acct I will use. I may keep the Google acct open, I may not. IDGAF. I will literally never use it other than the occasional Drive document upload/download. Google is basically useless to me.

That's all for now.

This is so much better

Dark Mode on write.as, that is. I prefer it this way. I just got done trying like hell to get TextEdit for Mac to go into dark mode but I didn't have any luck. I suppose I will just continue to share my thoughts w/ the Internet on my blog (even though I wanted one place for the writing to stay to myself, offline).

Oh well, I have very little secrets.

hi there
