Roscoe's Quick Notes

Zombie-Sunday, that's today in the Roscoe-verse thanks to all the tree pollen in the air. Dosing heavy with Zyrtec and Tylenol to counter the allergy symptoms controls the sneezing and blunts the headache but leaves me drowsy and disoriented. Zombiefied.

It's been a good Saturday morning in the Roscoe-verse, and I'm looking forward to a good afternoon and evening.

Chess work went well early. Next Saturday activity will pick up quite a bit on that front when play begins in a new ICCF tourney in which I'm registered. Six more CC games right off the bat.

Sports on the TV and radio will fill my afternoon. Fox Sports is broadcasting College Football. On now is Ohio State's Scarlet and Gray Intrasquad game. After the football I'll pick up the radio call of this afternoon's Texas Rangers vs Houston Astros MLB Game.

Tonight, like most Saturday night's, will bring me Svengoolie's horror movie and comedy schtick.

Righteously tired on this Friday afternoon: as I should be after an hour and a half mowing the front lawn. Weather was ideal: light breeze, bright, sunny skies, 80 degrees. After the first 45 minutes I began taking short rest breaks every 5 or 10 minutes so as not to overly tax myself.

A peaceful Thursday, this. I like that. Though the weather was beautiful, it was pretty windy. And the pollens in the air aggravated my sinuses to the point where I had to dose with Tylenol a few times to blunt the sinus headache. That's not especially uncommon for me at this time of year. Maybe tomorrow I'll get some yard work done. We'll see.

A very satisfying Wednesday is winding down. Got some yard work done this afternoon, trimmed the bushes in my front yard flower bed. Made moves in all pending CC games, and followed many MLB games. The Rangers / Athletics game is in the middle of the 5th inning and, though I'd like to stick with it till the end, it's getting time for me to do my night prayers and get ready for bed. So...

Enjoying a relaxing Tuesday, listening to the radio call of this afternoon's Orioles / Red Sox game.

Pulled an old radio out of storage this morning and have been listening to it again. I forgot how much I liked it. Nice.

This was Eclipse Monday, but we didn't get to see it here. We're a few miles to the East of where it could be seen, and our heavy cloud cover would have blocked the view anyway. We DID see the partial eclipse of 2 or 3 years ago, and had great fun with that. And friends and family got to see this one and shared happy pictures.

Had a phone conversation this morning with an old friend and fellow officer that I used to serve with when I was active in the Knights of Columbus. It was nice to touch base with him again.

TGIF! This has been a good week, all things considered. Mowed most of the back yard this morning. After what I got done yesterday and today, the only things that remain back there are two strips only visible from the alley. There's no hurry taking care of that; later this month sometime will be fine.

Home Internet was down for ~ 5 hrs. in the middle of the day. But it's back up now. Got all my CC moves sent, listening now to the Rangers vs Astros game.
