Roscoe's Quick Notes

my micro-blog

Massive insomnia last night. Think I got maybe 3 hours total sleep. And that has left me pretty foggy all day despite the mid-morning nap I was able to grab.

Hopefully I'll be able to sleep well tonight.

Early Monday afternoon and I've already knocked out my weekly laundry. I have time left to do some yard work. And the weather is nice. Good.

This Sunday starts slowly and well. The Sun is shining brightly and a cooler day is in the forecast. It may hit 70 later this afternoon, but at least it's supposed to be dry.

I've got MLB games to follow from Noon on. The Rangers play a night game and that will probably be the last thing on my TV before head hits pillow tonight.

And another Saturday has come to an end. It's not been particularly note-worthy in any way, shape, or form. That's okay, because it means no disaster has swooped down on me. And for that I'm thankful.

As Friday evening approaches I'm listening to the Texas Rangers Pregame Show; the Rangers night game vs the Atlanta Braves follows immediately and I'll be staying with this station to hear the call of the game.

Had my final post cataract surgery appointment with the eye doctor this afternoon and was pleased to get the news that my eyes look fine and healthy. He scheduled our next appointment for six months out. He wrote a prescription for my next pair of glasses to make my vision even better than it is now. Then I took that script over to his optician and chose my new frames along with options I wanted for the lenses. He said I should be able to pick them up in about two weeks.

Accomplished a surprise but significant chore this morning. Got my old computer printer working. Took me an hour and a half, but the darned thing prints now. It's been disconnected from my office ecosystem for approx. a year. I set it on the floor in frustration after it stopped working then, but now it's back up on the table. I'll be installing new ink cartridges later today or sometime tomorrow, after they're delivered.

Major chore accomplished today: mowed the back yard. Totally wiped out now, but thankful I was able to do it. Arthritic hips were so bad through most of last year, and the earlier part of this year that pushing the lawn mower around was a physical impossibility for me. I may never have the strength and energy of my younger self, but I'm getting better. And I'm so thankful for that!

One thing's for sure: this morning's rain rules out any yard work for the rest of the day. Which is not a bad thing. There are enough chess-related bookkeeping chores to keep me busy. And baseball games to keep running in the background.

The weekly laundry is now making its way through the machines: my first major chore of the day is underway.

Planning my chores for the rest of the week is underway, too. One of the more time-consuming will be building PGN files for all my new CC games and adding them to a database. These new games start on Saturday. I've already received pairings so I know who I'll be playing.

Yard work will have to be included this week. The back yard needs mowing again. And the weather should be okay for at least the next few days. I do want to get to that before the next rain.

And I'll want to squeeze in a haircut before my eye doctor's apt. this Friday.

Zombie-Sunday, that's today in the Roscoe-verse thanks to all the tree pollen in the air. Dosing heavy with Zyrtec and Tylenol to counter the allergy symptoms controls the sneezing and blunts the headache but leaves me drowsy and disoriented. Zombiefied.
