Roscoe's Quick Notes

my micro-blog

Sleepy time fatigue hits me suddenly these days: I've noticed that. After a pretty good Sunday, watching the final stage of this Sunday evening's exciting NASCAR Race, I realized that it would be a mistake for me to try and stay awake much longer. So I'm shutting things down around this joint and preparing for bed before I break something or do something stupid.

Made some progress this Saturday morning working on KofC Projects here at home, but there's much, much more to do. I took Sylvia out to lunch at a favorite restaurant. And I caught most of this afternoon's Rangers vs Astros MLB game. Other than that, I focused on staying home under the a/c, and avoiding the triple digit heat outside.

It's been a productive Friday. Mowed the back yard, hauled a pile of limbs and branches to the curb for the city to pick up later this month, and researched a KofC misnaming issue, notifying the parties involved: that's three chores. And that's enough for any one day. Certainly enough for this day. I'm wiped out.

The long half of my KofC year ended last night, and the short half starts this weekend. As Navigator of the Assembly I'm responsible for, among other things, running our monthly general business meetings. As our meetings are scheduled for the 4th Wednesday of each month, we don't hold them in November or December, the 4th Wednesdays of those months falling too close to the Thanksgiving Day and Christmas holidays. So the first half of the calendar year, from January through June, has six meetings, one in each month. And the second half of the calendar year, from July through December, only has four monthly meetings.

Of course, I have other responsibilities as Navigator that are ongoing 24/7. But a month without a general business meeting is always an easier month for me.

This evening's KofC Assembly Officers Installation Ceremony and Dinner went very well, I'm happy to say. Tired and satisfied, I'm hoping for a good night's sleep.

Had a very successful short business meeting with the manager of the restaurant where my Assembly will be holding its annual Installation of Officers Ceremony and Dinner tomorrow evening. We've had this event at this particular restaurant for the past two years, this being the third, but it's my first time as the current Navigator of the Assembly. As Navigator it's my responsibility to set it up and make sure things run smoothly. Tomorrow will tell . The Ceremony is scheduled to start at 19:00. I think it will go well.

Dang! It's hot!

After a productive morning doing my weekly laundry and taking care of a number of KofC chores and LOTS of comms, including one unexpected f2f meeting, I moved out to the front room to make my online CC moves... and briefly nap. But it finally got too hot in that part of the house, so I'm back here in the home office again, under the fan and air conditioning. Where it's less hot than out there.

This was a good Sunday, but a much busier one than I expected it to be. I'm glad I took Sylvia out to brunch this morning, and we had a relaxing hour and a half over a good meal. Because the rest of the day was hella busy.

She had some chores to do with the car, and I had SO MANY KofC related phone calls, texts, and emails received and dispatched throughout the afternoon and into the evening. My goodness!

Life is full, and life is good.

Taking a “baseball break” in the middle of a busy Saturday. The earlier Confirmation Mass went well. I'm glad I was there even if I wasn't in uniform.

Listening now to the Texas Rangers Pregame Show on the radio. Planning to catch some of the game's early innings before I have to head back to Church for the evening Mass.

Rest and prepare. Those are the operative words for me on this Friday. I have big events coming, one tomorrow and another on Wednesday. I've done everything I can do to prepare for tomorrow's Confirmation Mass. Now remains just the doing of it. I'm resting now, and hoping for a relaxed and stress-free remainder of this Friday.

Plans for the Wednesday event are coming together smoothly. There remain a few steps I need to take care of before that Officers Installation Ceremony and meal, but they can easily be done. I have plenty of time to take care of them.

Life is full and life is good.
