Roscoe's Quick Notes

QNMAR2024

Mid-afternoon Thursday and I'm tuned into the Minnesota Twins Pregame Show before their game vs the Cleveland Guardians, opening pitch is just a few minutes away.

Spent 1 ½ hrs. working in the back yard earlier today. Got a significant amount accomplished on that mess behind the back fence. Will do more tomorrow.

Happy Easter Sunday, Everyone! Though last night's sleep was less than excellent, today is moving along pretty well. Plenty of “good mornings” and “Happy Easters” on all my social platforms. Moved in all server-based CC games already, and will send my email moves later today. Planning to watch an early afternoon Rangers game and finish mowing the back yard after that. Expecting a “face time” call from my daughter sometime this afternoon. And that will be plenty for this Sunday.

It's been a productive Saturday. Spent an hour doing yardwork and finished mowing the bulk of the backyard. That part of the back yard outside the fence (alley and old car port) remains to be done. Hopefully I'll be able to catch that tomorrow.

Now I'm following the Mets vs Brewers game, I've already dispatched moves in all pending CC games, and plan to catch tonight's Svengoolie. And that's enough for today.

Having a pleasant but much slower paced Friday than I had planned. All the tree pollens in the air today have had me more fatigued than would otherwise be the case. I had been hoping to do some mowing in the back yard today, but with my lower energy levels I opted to take it easy and reschedule that work for tomorrow. So today I've been following MLB games and working on my chess. And eating. The bathroom scales will probably mock me tomorrow morning. Oh well...

Queen Knight Rook Checkmate

I won this server-based Correspondence Chess game this morning when my White Queen Checkmated the Black King. We can see that the King's only possible flight square is occupied by my Knight protected by my e4 Rook.

Moving slowly through a slow Wednesday. Rainy weather is keeping me inside today, so no yard work. And there are no pressing computer or correspondence chores needing my attention, so I'm taking it easy. Nice.

Following this afternoon's Rangers / Red Sox game with my little Rpi-400 connected to the TV / Monitor back in my room. One browser tab is showing me the game stats and summary updated in real time, courtesy of MLB's Gameday service.

And another browser tab is playing me an audio feed of the game's play by play.

Not a bad way to spend a Tuesday afternoon, ya' know?

Mowing the front yard Saturday and Sunday wore me out more than I thought. I've got muscle soreness (a good kind) in my shoulders and back, and a tiredness that is still with me even after a brief morning nap and another quick one after lunch.

That notwithstanding I tackled my one big chore of the day, the weekly laundry, and finished it before lunch. With Tylenol for the muscle aches and taking it easy for the rest of the day, I should be good to go for work in the back yard starting tomorrow.

“Finished” the front yard earlier today. There is some trim work, etc. to be done but that can wait for another time. Now, anyone driving by and glancing at the yards on my street will see mine and nod in approval. That's plenty good enough for me.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a rainy day, so no yard work is scheduled. As soon as weather permits I'll begin tackling the back yard.

For now, I'm enjoying following some excellent college basketball March Madness games.,

Today I finally got to some yard work and man-oh-man did it ever wipe me out! Front yard is now ~80% done, mowed and trimmed. Hopefully I'll have enough energy tomorrow to wrap up the job. In my defense the grass and weeds had grown very thick. My battery powered lawn mower totally drained two fully charged batteries by the time I quit for the day. And that has never happened before. Under normal circumstances, one fully charged battery is sufficient to do the front yard, and another fully charged battery can do the back yard with juice to spare.

We'll see what tomorrow brings.
