The daily muxlix musings

Yesterday we had a fantastic day. Super nice sun and warm. Today it was pissing down in the morning. But it cleared up later in the day.

Personally my day was so not too good. The plan was to take the day off and spend it with the kids. But I needed to do some meetings in the morning. And after that I realized it was the last day I had with the car. I had to go and pick up the winter tires in the garage. Then empty and clean the car inside and outside. It was quite a few hours of unexpected work but it was really nice when it was all done.

I should have done it a bit more often when I used the car because it is pretty nice to and fresh when it is all cleaned up.

Tomorrow I will work a bit in the morning. After that I will go and visit my dad and prepare the birthday party of my oldest son. In a weeks time I will be on vacation — so looking forward to it.

Today the weather was fantastic. Sun was shining and almost no wind. We went the whole family to the beach. It was still pretty cold in the water but the kids still jumped in and enjoyed it. We all now have a bit of red skin here and there even though we where really careful and used a lot of sunscreen. I guess the sun sensitive skin runs in the family.

I seems to have been a pretty calm day on the internet as well. I followed along on whats happening mainly using mastodon. That is the one and only social network I am still using. I am trying to build up a circle of people with similar interest. I think this is the biggest challenge. You need to find an instance with a lot of people with similar interests otherwise you have to rely on the public timeline or on search. Not always very effective.

Time to put the kids to bed. They are super tired after a long day but they still don't want to close their eyes.

I felt really depressed today. No real reason for it.

On masto there is a big discussion going on right now about the Gab announcement. They will ditch their own platform and fork and build on Mastodon instead. The problem here is that Gab is a white supremacist network. With their own word they stand up for “free speech”.

Some people in the fediverse wants to block them and others won't. The reason for the blockage is that they don't want to let these dark powers spread their ideology. Others say they shouldn't be proactively blocked but only if they cannot behave and follow netiquette.

The problem I have with blocking them is that if you look at the people that is currently on the fediverse you will see a few different groups; it is of course the LGBTQ (and some other letters) communities, it is the FOSS and technology folks (I would fall into this section), it is the lefties and communists (I would definitely not fall into this section) and a bunch of others groupings. If we should start block instances before they violate any rules – shouldn't we then also start blocking other political extremes like communists and other -isms? What about religious people?

The think I fell in love with the fediverse because of this mix of people with a lot of different point of views. There is, for most of the time (wilw), room to discuss and have healthy argumentation. Don't block and put up barriers before people violates the common rules! Who know, maybe we can turn some of these guys around by talking with them...

Today was a normal day at work. I got quite a lot of stuff done. Felt good. Then I picked the kids up at school and we went home to have a nice evening. After dinner we all went for a walk but it started to rain, this warm thick summer rain together with some thunder in the distance. We had to get back home before the real storm arrived.

The write.as guys came back to me know and I will now push some ETH their way so soon this can be a paid account. When I can start publishing my posts to the public timeline I will probably get a bit more readers. Exciting.

Good day today. We spent a lot of time with the family. We celebrated my oldest son and my sisters oldest son. Their birthdays are next to each other even though there is many years in between. Weather was great. I was doing a nice barbecue with sausages and hamburgers for the kids and lamb chops for the adults. I managed to get the chops perfect – a nice surface and soft and moist center. Simply perfect. I also keep the seasoning simple – oil, salt, pepper and some chili flakes.

The kids played and had a great time. Even if they at a couple of times went totally over the line and became super crazy. One of the kids started to pull the delimiter line for the robotic lawnmower up from the ground – not at all appreciated by grandma. The same kid also insisted to blow all the candles from the cakes even if it wasn't his birthday party.

This was the first trip we took with the new car. It was really nice. It is huge and you really need to be careful maneuvering it. But it is really spacious inside and everyone could travel really comfortable. The issue was that after a while the boys started to fight in the far back – and there being a whole seat in between forced me to stop and separate them. In time we will probably find the correct seating and travel can be calm without interruptions.

I even got time to go and do some ordinary things like grocery and mowing the lawn at home. We sat in the veranda and had dinner. Just a simple one since we eat a lot during the day. Then I played football with the kids. Ton of fun. We also made a new ball sport up.

Today it's the first of June. First real summer month. Did my first real bike race/ride with the son. We had great weather. Not to warm, not windy and no rain. The ride took about 4 hours to complete and he never complained once. Or, well, he did. But only for pain in his ass. After a few hours in the saddle you will start to hurt.

After the bike ride we rested and had a slow afternoon. I even slept for an hour or so. I am not used to bike for that long time anymore and it really drains you of energy. But I am super happy.

I wasted some time on Youtube watching some old documentaries about how tax money is being used. I have for some time wanted to look into how the local / regional governing system is using our money and if they are investing and spending them on the right things or not. I think they get away with too much stuff. It simply goes under the radar. My problem is that I want to do it but I do not have the time to do it. So it will likely not happen.

I still need to rework that blog article I started to work on a few days ago. And I also have some unfinished work-work that I need to do. But I am procrastinating here. Still happy and relaxed after this day. We have a quiet family day with some birthday celebration coming up tomorrow. I really hope it will be as good as today was.

Today was a really good day. Work was calm and I got a lot of stuff done. I picked the oldes one up at school. He was in a super good mood and we had some cosy time before picking the rest of the kids up.

Went to pick the new car up. Was pretty uneventful. Paid the last part of it and had all the papers signed over. The car goes really well. But when I came home and had parked it it didn't want to start again. Stone dead. No power at all to any of the lamps on the dashboard. I troubleshoot alot. Checked all the fuses. Also measured the voltage on the battery. Everything looked as it should. But after one and a half hour I heard some sparks from one of the poles of the battery – it was not attached as well as it should. A quick round with the key and everything was fine again.

Now I am preparing for the bike ride tomorrow. The oldest kid will do a 65k bike ride. Since he's not even 10 years old it will be a great challenges. I am looking forward to it and it will be great fun. I really hope he has energy to do the full ride. I will tell you tomorrow how it goes.

It is a bit like an adventure every time I login to write.as to write something. I never really know what will come out. For me it's a type of meditation or therapy. I get some thought out of the systems.

Today has been a great day. I relaxed a lot. Slept long in the morning and also took an afternoon nap. Now I am a bit afraid to go to sleep. Don't know what nightmares that will haunt me this night. I hope I am lucky and will get a night without any dreams. Those are in general the best.

Will try to go and pick up the new car tomorrow. Would be good to have it around when we all need to go around this weekend. Better to use the new car then go with our other two cars. Feels so unnecessary when we are going from and to the same place at the same time.

Okay, time to hit bed. Wish me luck!

Today is one of those days before a holiday. And there is a gap day before the real weekend. That means that a lot of people take the day and the gap day of and in this way they get really long weekend. Adding up on this next week is similarly a short week. Because of this the day was short for most people and there where not a lot of people around the office and consequently I got a lot done today. I really liked that.

After work I went to a car dealership and bought a car. Not a new one – it's closer to 10 years old but had decent mileage. But it is a big car or even a minibus. We need this type of car when we have the whole family and we need to go somewhere – we can't fit into one car all of us. It was a shitload of money for something I consider pretty expensive. But we needed it.

I am really tired now and look forward to sleep in tomorrow morning. I will probably need to work a little bit to close out a few projects I have been dealing with. Since we are getting closer to a go-live date on those it would be really good to cross them of.

I also have a pretty good idea of another blog article I would like to write. Will not have time for it tomorrow but maybe during the weekend if the family is calm. But you never know...

Time to hit the sack!
